View Full Version : How far must Jennifer go at Charleston, to hold onto #1 ?

Apr 17th, 2002, 10:33 PM
I did some calculations, and I think Jen must now win the tournament to hold onto #1. At first she only needed to make the final.

The lack of Quality points are hurting Jen at FCC. All of the seeds in Jen's quarter are out of the tournament. :(

15 Panova -out
10 Sanchez-Vicario -out
9 Farina-Elia -out
5 Henin -w/d

Are there any mathematical whizzes who can tell us if Jen's #1 ranking is in jeopardy?:D

You're way ahead of me GoJennifer! It will tough for Jen to hold onto the topspot because I think Venus will enter a red clay event she didn't last year, plus she's almost bound to improve on last year's 1st round French defeat.

Possible gains for Jen are if Venus fails to defend her win in Hamburg-plus after the FCC Jen won't be defending a lot until the French. I erxpect the computer #1 will go back and forth a lot unless Venus or Jen has an awful or great summer.

Gooooo Jen!!!!!!!!;)

Jen has to win the tournament to keep her No.1 ranking!!! Given her current form, I doubt that she will make it though!! She really has to gear up for the FCC!!! A title in clay is a must to boost her confidence in defending her French Open crown!!! Good luck, Jennifer!!

She must be able to defend her title! :fiery:

I mean, she has to play more matches to catch fire! ;)

I really hope she wins!! I hate seeing anyone else #1 besides her. Come on Jenn!! Keep your title AND your #1 spot!!

But after the french there is Wimby ;)

personely, i think Venus will defend her title :( , but the US Open is a different story, plus Jennifer had an awfull spring, but Venus did not play in the spring!

this is going to be a long long season...

venus is not going to defend her title! there is always a justine henin (I don't want to remember juju's win over jen last year :fiery: ...), but venus is going to loose...TO OUR JEN!!!
I desperately want jen to win wimby!

Aside from the number one spot, Jennifer looked on fire in her match with Myskina! She looked alot like last year when she was focused and determined! So watch out!!!! She could be the number two player and win at Rolland Garros and Wimbledon!!!!!!

Since Monica and Serena are out (her only chances at big bonus points) is Jen going to drop to number 2 on Monday, regardless if she wins?

I am a huge tennis nut but I refuse to go so far as figure out how to calculate ranking/bonus points.....:D :D :D

Of course all who do are secretly my heros!

so ... #2 it is for Jen ...

Oh well - hopefully it'll inspire her for the Europe Claycourt and grass season ... who knows, she may get past the 2nd round at Rome. Though I bet she doesn't.

Jennifer is defending Finalist points at Berlin, 2nd round at Rome, and Champion at Roland Garros.

She has her work cut out........ But if anyone can regain the #1 ranking, it's Jennifer!!!!!

Go Jennifer!!!!!
