too far.
she's around 35 in the alternate lists.
and you don't have so many withdrawls in GS, especially not the US.
if it were AO, i reckon she might have had a chance (and i think she'll be in for AO05)

K, she's actually 34, but since de los rios above her has quit, and there are 8 MD WCs + qualification WC, i suppose she's actually somewhere around 22 in alternates.
that's still terribly far from cut off.

special GS with tons of injuries. the long seasons and the power game finally killing the girls.
so i checked - it's about there.
at the moment we assume 245 might be the last alternate <bratchikova i think...do't remember> (like suspected, 230-250 are last accepted players to GS quallies), but alot of injuries this week, we'll see whom withdraws next week. huntuchova, kirilenko, serena, ivanovic, na li, kuznetsova all got injured this week.
pierce, venus, likhovtseva, sharapova withdrew before the tourny started.
another 2-3 players in MD will not play for sure (farina elia i.e, maybe grande still won't be able to participate as well etc.)
savransky has a tiny chance, but it will be intresting to see how far she was.

Savransky is not going to play in the U.S.Open
It's a big risk she will never take.
I think she's going to play 2-3 tournaments in Rusia, but I'm not sure yet.

Anyway, good luck to my 3 girls

she's playing 2 tournies in russia for sure.
and she will play GS one day if she continues like this.
nothing risky about playing the tourny that gives out the most money possible if she can get in you know.
check our her thread...

the qualifying brackit tzipi is in looks good:
Tzipora Obziler ISR (13) vs. Natalie Grandin RSA
Stephanie Dubois CAN vs. Conchita Martinez Granados ESP
Anne Kremer LUX vs. Matea Mezak CRO
Julia Cohen USA vs. Yvonne Meusburger AUT (26)

I reckon she can qualify. in her first match she meets grandin whom she beat in memphis 04 in straight sets 6-4 6-1 and that was when grandin was in a relativly good phase and tzipi ranked 142. she should beat her again easily i think.
I think she'll then play Dubois and that one will be much harder. the canuck teen beat obziler last year in Quebec EASILY 6-1 6-2. let's hope grandos goes through since tzipi already beat her last year easily in canberra qualifying 6-3 6-3.
we'll get to the other if and when tzipi goes through.
good luck babe! please qualify and defend your 2nd round points!

aheee!!

tzipi lost  6-1, 6-4

I caught the first set of her match and she was arguing over close line calls with the umpire. She had the wrong strategy. Grandin is not in good shape and tzipi should have moved her from side to side a lot more...

too bad, she will lose points after making the 2nd round of the main draw last year

I was at the open yesterday and caught most of the second set of Shahar's win. She looked fit, and hit harder than i remember when i saw her vs. serena on Tv this year (then again, she was doing a lot more retrieving against serena) Her serve was pretty good as well. She was very happy with the win. I think next round is very winnable. Go Peer!

Shahar plays against Vento Kabchi tommorrow (Friday), 3rd match on court 11.

Ranking outlook:
After the completion of 2nd round, Anna is in 44th place and Shahar 47th. If Shahar win tommorrow, she will move to 45th, just behind Anna. If she loses, the only player who could overtake her if she wins her next match is Laura Granville, who plays against Petrova. Several players further down need at least 2 more wins to overtake her, one of them is Vento-Kabchi.

Doubles results:

Anna and Shahar are both through to the 2nd round with their respective partners, Vera Douchevina and Dally Randriantefy.
