View Full Version : Lindsay out of LA

And she's not scheduled to play anything until the US Open.

The #1 ranking is gone for sure now, because Cincy is coming off. Even if Maria herself doesnt' play this summer, she'll still get to #1.

I think this is smart. This has no influence on the US Open seedings. There's no difference between the #1 and #2 seeds, so it doesn't matter. I think it's disgusting that Maria is #1 now, but I'll let it go for now.

I really hope she plays New Haven. She's only not reached the final there once, and the field is not too strong this year. It would be a perfect place for her to test her back, and get some matches in before the US Open. I think she will end up taking the WC there, just judging by statements she made in the past about the tournament.

I just find it ironic that back when Lindsay was #1 early this year, they whined about how she didn't deserve it without winning a slam and that Maria deserved it more. Now, Maria's best result at a slam is a SF, and she hasn't won a decent tournament since February.

I really hope she plays New Haven.

Oh, no, don't even dare to dream to play New haven, please.

If Lindsay can't stay healthy in a 2 consecutive weeks' tournament at this age, what's the reason she can stay healthy through playing 3 weeks in a row?

Remember how Lindsay lost to Slutapova Pan Pacific Open? It was because she hurt herself *again* before the final. (and it's the 3rd week she played)

So, be wise, Lindsay! :yeah:

I kinda agree to some degree. I have a feeling that it would be more detrimental for Lindsay and her injury if she plays three weeks in a row, even with a weak field.

All is not lost I read somewhere on the net yesterday that Lindsay was going to have an MRI on her back and then was going to deiced if is going to play before the US Open and let Maria have the no 1 seed at the US Open think about it Lindsay has been the 2,3,2 seed when she won her slams so it might be an omen thing. I haven't give up her even if everyone else has have a little faith people. If Lindsay is meant to get back to no 1 she will and I for one couldn't care less where she ranked it just a number after all.

Perfect scenario: Lindsay rests up and makes sure she's 100%, plays and wins New Haven, then goes and gives her best at the US Open; AND if she doesn't win, it's not because of injury.

Can she statistically gain the top spot back if she wins or does well in NH? I know she won't bee seeded top for the open then because it's the week before?

Perfect scenario:[deleted]

No, the perfect scenario is: Every player in WTA dislikes Sarapova so much that they make a deal to Lindsay - Lindsay to play LA but whoever plays Lindsay, she tanks badly to send Lindsay through semi (to guarantee Lindsays' No.1 rank) ;)

So we don't have to worry about who gets the No.1 ranking

By winning New Haven, she could get the #1 back, but it's too early to tell. It all would depend on how Maria does in Toronto, etc.

I agree. Lindsay used to always play New Haven, and I feel it was good for her. She never sustained a new injury while playing there, and the conditions are exactly like those in New York.

It is so unfair, that Sharapova goes to No.1 without doing/playing anything.

If Lindsay doesn't play New Haven and Amélie wins Toronto and New Haven in a row, maybe Sharapova will soon loose the top spot to Mauresmo (hopefully), but Lindsay will be seeded No.3 at the US Open.

no, not really....even if it was possible, hypothetically speaking that Amilie could do that by winning Toronto AND New Haven, Lindsay still wouldn't be seeded 3 because the Seeds are desided the week of New Haven, which means whoever goes into New Haven as 1 and 2 will be seed 1 and 2 in the USO regardless of what happens in New Haven :D

So now, it is official and Lindsay has spoke!

"I am very disappointed that I have to withdraw from the JPMorgan Chase Open and will be unable to defend my title," Davenport said. "I feel this is my hometown tournament and one in which I have always looked forward to playing. My back is just not ready yet for competition. I look forward to returning next year and trying to regain my title."

sounds like the back is still niggling but really isn't giving a lot of detail away....

Get well soon Lindsay :D

Shocking.

I really hope she's ready for New Haven... Stanford annoys me more and more now.
