Maresmo, can have all those titles against her name but, she dosen't have what its take to win a Grandslam or to beat serena for that matter. I think for if she can beat Serena, its will be a grandlam winner for her!

She still need to work hard to get that title againt her name.

She's been to the semi-finals. Now go get the trophy!

Amelie has no problem with the Russians, she won each and everyone of the top russians on several occasions....the players that worry me are on the otherside of the draw but on her side of the draw JHH is the only one....

Well kesi, she has beaten Serena before as well as JHH and Lindsay. A lot of the matches with JHH have been close and the last one with Lindsay, also.

The wonderous thing about Amélie is that you just never know what she'll do. She's got a tough draw but I'm gonna take this match by match and start by wishing her luck in the first round ;)

I saw the whole match. She played solid, good and quite aggressive tennis. Good 1st round match. Very few UEs, no double faults :) Some of her forehand returns were the usual loopy ones but that's nothing new and something Loďc and she should have changed a long time ago :o
Good start!

Sorry to say this here but maybe Amelie should consider another coach's help I mean if she is very attached to loic she can keep him on but get someone extra, it would be useless if she is to look back at her career 20 years from now and wonder what if??....The same problems are still there over and over again....last week against Daveport at the begining of the 2nd set she made a couple of great 2nd service forhand returns, very agressive and solid and won both points....she can't give short loopy middle court balls to top players on hard courts...they will nail them with instant cheap winners....when Amelie first came to the attention of the world at the Australian open in 1999 Davenport complained of the power, Amelie's power....where did the power go...I can think of ten people that hit the ball stronger now, Davenport is one of them.....I dont know what to say Loic seems like a great guy and an person but there are priorities in life and everyone deserves a chance or a maximum 2 but not a dozen....
Amelie has been the most consistent of any of the top players for the past two years, she is the most fit and when i say that I mean it we all saw the semi againt AMG at New Haven...just amazing stuff...but the final...Dav was not even at her best...
Amelie played a solid game against a much lower ranked player yesterday yes ......
Anyway Good Luck Amelie....hope things turn out well...you deserve the win.....

Here I go again.
Amélie needs a new coach, not an assistant coach along the side of Loďc. IMO she already has too many people around her and having an assistant coach would just confuse things more. I realised when the collaboration with Yannick didn't work out - her result at RG was the worst since 2001 when she lost to Jana Kandarr in the first round. She needs to become more independent in many ways and that way channel that power to built up her mental consistency.

Part of Amélie's power from AO99 is gone because she has added more spin into her shots - giving a loopy forehand shot any power player can kill instantly if she doesn't get it closer to baseline.

As far as her fitness is concerned; yes she is physically the most fit player on tour but fitness is a combination of physical and mental aspects. Mental fitness has an important roll when the stakes are high - it divides the winners from losers. If you look at Amélie from that combined fitness aspect, she isn't the fittest player on tour - possibly not even the fittest French player.

im a fairly new amelie fan and the first thing i noticed was the short balls she gives away...its like she could smack it down the line but no....just polnk it back in the middle of teh court. i think against lindsay its a mental issue...like andy v federer...but maybe she should flaten her forhand out a bit. i think brad gilbert would be the ideal coach for her.

As suppose you mean waxed her arms? If she'd had dark brown hair and lots of it I might understand but it's light brown and mainly visible when she's tanned so waxing her arms would be :retard:
What's next, wax her facial hair :scared:

If the forehand would be the only thing then Brad Gilbert would be a good choice. But she has other issues and IMO Brad Gilbert is not the ideal coach in those other things. I can think of two coaches who would be better suited both to work on the technical/tactical aspects of her game but also her mental framework but unfortunately they're not available at the moment.

Anyway good luck tonight against Sesil!!!

Obviously you miss understood me but that is Ok....waxing actually makes you have less hair with time....shaving is what makes it grow fast , hard and darkens it....

I agree that the forehand return is one of her weakest shots, she lacks agressiveness sometimes, and being passive against the likes of Davenport, JHH and Serena can prove very costly......I think her net play is the only part of her game that improved recently.......I aslo feel she gets intimidated by who is on the other side....she should be wary and cautious but shouldn't care less because she is up there with the best....Of course alot of things are easier said than done, it is very easy for us to talk sitting here but being on court in the spot light is a whole new story....
IMO the mental Blockage issue goes way back to the circumstances in which she reached the Australia Open final in 1999, The memories and the hype of what went on then...she needs to find her comfort zone somewhere with someone where she can explode, and get it all off her shoulders.....
Any way back to the Tennis,

Good Luck Amelie today.....

Marmite didn't missunderstand. You wrote Amé should wax her hands instead of arms that was the confusing part.
But why should Amélie wax her arms when her hair there is light and fair?
By the way the hair will grow back spyke but not as spyke as when you shave.

Bien joué Amélie!! :bigclap:

Wow, I enjoyed watching that match! Not just because of the scoreline, but the rallies were so fast and furious! Look like Amélie was determined to gain control early and then not let Sesil back in!! :woohoo: Yes, Sesil made a lot of errors, but I think some were due to the pressure of trying to out-rally Amélie.... I'm glad for Sesil she wasn't double bagelled though; I saw her practicing at Roland Garros with Sania Mirza and she seems nice!

Hey, you guys probably saw the match on TV better than I did sitting in the nosebleed seats! ;) It was still awesome seeing it live, anyway, as always :D I took a boatload of photos of her warm-up session - she looked relaxed and was joking around with Loic quite a bit. As for the match, she came out firing (as most of you saw), and didn't really give Sesil a lot to work with ;)

Hopefully they won't put her on Ashe on Saturday, as I only have a grounds pass. In past years you could sneak into the stadium with a grounds pass, but I guess they got wise this year - they check your ticket before you go up :( So everyone send out good vibes that she'll be on Armstrong or the Grandstand

I'll be back for the third round wrapup :D

Ooh, tough match against Anna-Lena tonight! Anna-Lena has improved a lot since I saw her play a year ago! She has a great serve and hits the ball so hard, but luckily Amélie hung in there really well and took her opportunities! :D I think Amélie's experience in this kind of match, compared with Anna-Lena's, helped her too. Well done Amélie for fighting so hard for the win! :bigclap:

A year ago...how about a week ago! ;) Ana-Lena had, I think, a better game plan than Amélie - seriously  :( Momo has has has to be more agressive- no two ways about it! On the points that she was, she was flawless, untouchable.

Next up is another familiar face, Elena L. A Pilot Pen reunion  Elena played very well against Myskina today, in spite of the bagel in the first set.

I'll be there once again on Monday and, one more time, everybody please send good vibes  she'll play on Armstrong (even though I do have a ticket for Ashe, I can see the match much better on Armstrong!) :D

Well I was just able to watch some of the 2nd set....I liked what Isaw, ALG was playing very well and Amelie was playing even better, she was very agressive and wanted to stay ahead.....Good Match , great win....the next round could be better because Amelie had played and won against Likhotseva several times before....I think it will be a cracker of a 2nd week with most of the seeded players still very much in it.....I would love to watch Amelie vs Pierce match ....

To answer Lapin about the improvement of ALG, IMO she has been playing better and her atititude and game improved noticebly since she started playing doubles with Navratilova....what a tennis great....

Well Done Amelie, make it happen for your self we are all beside you....

Sep 4th, 2005, 11:27 AM

I agree too. I think it's because she doesn't hit it flat enough, no?
Make another quarterfinal Amélie! Good luck! :bounce:

I chose to watch Mary's match yesterday so I only saw half of the second set of Amélie's match. I think she was playing a good solid match, at least in the second set. I agree with Linnie that she has to keep playing more aggressive not just every now and then but all the time.
Anna-Lena has improved a lot. Her serve volley game has improved a lot ever since she started to play with Navi.
I'm going to watch this match now to see what went on during the first set.

We can look at the head to head record all we want but if that decided things Maam would be packing her bags at the hotel room. Amélie if you drop the ball short against Maam you will be in deep deep shit because she's moving better than ever, hitting the ball really hard and accurate and her serve is on fire. Yes Momo owns the head to head but it's not going to matter a damn cause if Amélie continues to just go all defensive it will be a very short day for her - bring your A Game Amélie cause your B and C games won't be good enough!

Agreed! She's got to up her game, get that first serve in, and be agressive. Mary took it to Justine and don't think she won't be gunning for her place in the semi too. Amélie's got to pull out the A game to beat Mary. Can she do it? Yes, but it won't be easy. *leaves praying for Mauresmo in straight sets*

 Amélie!! Mary played so well today though; ironically Amélie might have had a better chance if she had played Justine in the quarter final! I agree there are certain things that Amélie needs to work on: serve, service return and especially her forehand, it definitely needs to be flatter and deeper. Here's Amélie's post match interview:

 There's still a lot of things that need fixing, but if she had to lose to someone, Mary's not too bad...

I still think she can win one- or is it that I don't want to think I'm supporting a hopeless player? Well, she hasn't played anywhere near her best since last year, with the possible exception of her Wimbledon semi, so it shouldn't really surprise me. I just hope she picks it up for the Fed Cup next week- and for next year.
