View Full Version : 'Doing a Capriati'

Just reading through a couple of threads in other forums and amongst the discussion about Venus' comeback win against Justine, was this quote:

"Understand this much about professional tennis on both sides of the gender line: Outside of a reborn Jennifer Capriati, it's almost unheard of for anybody to rally from that kind of deficit against a Top 10-caliber player."

Proof, in case it was needed that 'doing a Capriati' will soon become tennis vernacular. Even when she hasn't played, she's still the player they discuss...

When I saw Jen play in Miami last month she came 2 points away from losing to Myskinna, almost lost in straights to Tulyganova and then amazingly saved 2 match points against Monica Seles.

By the end of the first match I kept saying she was just pulling a Capriati.

Yesterday when I checked the final score for the Amelia Island final I was kinda shocked that Venus pulled a Capriati herself. Pretty impressive for Venus but Jen is the QUEEN of pulling a Capriati.

I thought by the title of this thread you were going to tell us negative things they were saying about her propensity to complain on court (again...) or something. Glad to hear non-Jen supporters can occasionally also give her credit where credit's due. I would think it would be hard, if you truly love the game, to not at least respect a player who brings that kind of potential for tennis magic to the table every time she walks on court. Thanks for sharing the good news!

Cool that they keep it in mind of our girl making the best comeback in a match :D :D :D

And not only in a match. She made the best comeback in tennis history as we speak! :D  :D  :wavey:

Cappy Happy...last time I looked, I was a fully paid up member of Jenn's Den and have been for ages. I just put that quote in so that we could all gloat and revel in the fact that even without playing, writers cannot ignore Jennifer.

I like the sound of it. "pulling a Capriati". "Capping" a comeback!

BTW Snuffkin, you can "question" or argue with me anytime! I don't mind at all ! :)

Rollo, I think I'll avoid the arguments if you don't mind. A love of Jennifer makes it difficult to believe we could ever argue about anything.

Cheers all the same...

Snuffkin - Yikes! I didn’t mean to offend you. I think you took my post wrong. I meant I thought you were going to tell us about something negative other people on other boards were saying about Jen so we could collectively bash on them – "circle the wagons" kinda thing – not that I thought YOU were saying them. When I was talking about non-Jen supporters, I meant those clowns on other boards, not you.

Believe me, I haven’t been around long, but I can see who the “bigger” fans of Jennifer are and I certainly rank you much higher up the food chain than me! :D

I apologize if you thought I meant otherwise. :) :) :)

Apologies for the misunderstanding

I hope she doesn't become too reliant on "pulling a capriati"

I fear it'll backfire someday important ...

... such as today for example

um what backfired on her today? I mean jen doesn't go out there planning to lose the first set! she would rather take it in two like everyone else but doesnt mind playing three. Patty was just too good and is destined to win this tournament.

Im not taking anything away from Patty's win

I dunno what i was saying - the others will understand what I mean

Yeah I know what you mean VBN, although today I was hoping she would pull a good Capriati.

I pretty much figured she didn't pull one before the first ball was struck, as I was chatting with another board poster and I told him not to tell me the score (it was on tape delay on CBS). He just replied "don't go on the WTA board, beacuse everyone is talking about it". I knew everyone would only be talking about it if Patty upset Jen.

Oh well. I have to stay OFF the internet when matches are on a tape delay. Why can't it all just be live...so much more exciting.

All of my wrinkles and grey hairs come from her pulling a Capriati!

It's really exciting when Jen pulls yet another 'Capriati', but for crying out loud, could she pleeeeeeeez try and not do it almost every match? I mean, maybe it's not her fault, but is she really wanting us lot to be bad with our nerves?
*Throws Jenny fan a bottle of hair dye and a good wrinkle crwam* I'm not counting on her giving us an easy time anytime soon. :p
