Lepchenko has been on fire this year in the ITFs...but It should still be a very winnable match for PEER :bounce:

Jidkova beat Osterloh 6-1, 6-4 :eek::eek: :D:D
sorry FrazierFan :(

No score on the Drake match yet, I assume that meant they are still on court - good sign considering it started nearly 2 hrs ago. Though she may just not have the score yet even though its complete :p

I think that's backwards, actually: Peer def Lepchenko 6-2 6-7 7-6
She was leading 5-2 in the last set and then lost four games in a row before coming back to win.

More scores:
Voskoboeva def Foretz 6-4 6-3
(I think that's who replaced Spears; not positive I heard the name right)
Shaughnessy def Ospina 4-6 6-1 6-2
Ospina earned that first set with some great tennis, then seemed to run out of steam
Mirza def Drake 6-3 6-3
S. Uberoi def Craybas 6-4 6-4
Tu def Okamoto 6-3 6-3
Cho def Fedak 7-5 6-4

Also, Irvin was leading 4-0 in the second over Voskoboeva, and I think she won the first set as well.

They won't play the doubles for a few hours yet, since so many of the players are still playing singles.

Hopefully I got all those scores right - they're not official or anything ;)

Thank you so much for the scores, sarsmile. Can you tell something more about how Meghann played? Would be so great.

I didn't watch the whole match, just bits of it. She got broken in the first game of the match, and they stayed on serve the rest of the first set I think. She was playing reasonably well, but Ospina was tough. I'm not sure what happened after that - it looked like Ospina was getting tired but Meghann may have raised her game as well. She has a great serve - quite a few aces.

After the match (right after, she hadn't even changed), she was practicing on a side court with her coach (at least that's who I assume it was - 30something guy with an accent?). I'm not sure if they were trying to correct something from the match or if that's normal for her, but it's pretty hot out here to play three sets of tennis and then hit for an hour afterward. He was basically playing ball machine - drilling her on the same shots over and over again. She looked like she was hitting well, and he seemed reasonably happy. When they finished, he headed inside and left her to pick up 100+ balls spread all over two courts.

Jul 25th, 2005, 02:05 AM
Meghann :) I'm really glad she's playing qualies here. Though it's ridiculous that Stevenson got a WC over her. :o This gets Megs some points, and gives her a chance to rebuild her ranking.

Marissa ;) Can you tell me some more about how she is playing?

Thanks for all the info you already gave. :D

fyi for anyone that is curious, was at the the osterloh-jidkova match.

jidkova played very well, wasn't missing anything. lilia is continuing to struggle with a hamstring injury. she was grimacing a bit on the court. she was down 5-2 and had a chance to tie it at 5-5 in the second. hopefully, she can rest for la costa.

Arrg, Varvara!

This girl needs to start winning on the tour now, she needs some big wins because I'm guessing some notoriety wouldn't be all bad for her situation.

Best of luck to Meilen Tu, Yoon-Jeong Cho, and that's it. ;)

Thanks so much Tennis124..i was wondering what has been up with LILIA. I am sad to hear that she is injured but sort of happy that she is not losing all of these matches on being 100% healthy :p :p
Hopefully she will be well rested for San Diego next week and then 100% for LA and Canada Qualies... :bounce: :bounce:

Marissa ;) Can you tell me some more about how she is playing?

Not much, Andrew, sorry. I only saw a few minutes of her matches. Fansler was pretty overmatched, so while Marissa didn't have any problems it wasn't much of a test for her. I only saw a game or so of her match today - not enough to have anything useful to say.

I did overhear her talking to someone (a Stanford coach, maybe?) saying she was happy to be back here and was still enjoying playing the tour.

Thank you so much. Thats Meghanns game, hitting aces but cannot be so aggressive. But when her opponent is not as good as her, she wins easily.

Yeah this funny(ironic!) guy is her coach Rafael Font de Mora. Complete idiot. And it's his style to let Meghann and Anna-Lena Grönefeld play tennis over and over. 7-8 hours of tennis is a normal day for them. In Croatia Anna-Lena played 2 threesetters (5 hours) and 2 hours of training. Result is, that the girls are fit as hell, but haven't got enough power for the matches, they have injuries and are shy as hell. But ok, it's Rafael.
