Haven't lost here since 2002.

Top four seeds are Lindsay, Queen Vee, KFC and Patty. She'll probably draw KFC. Oh well.

Good luck. US Open Series CHAMPION.

It'd be a nice route to the final with Venus and Kim on the other side. Lindsay owns Patty and Patty's prone to upset so that'd be nice. Oh well, we should hope for the best against Kim on a faster court than Indian Wells.

:p You said you weren't watching Wimbledon after the fourth round either.

It should be a good match to watch and there's not really any potential upsetters for the Kim/Lindsay semi and the Venus final.

LOL, it is a great draw but did you not see how great Angela was against Serena at Wimbledon?! I wouldn't count here out, but I'm not too worried either....Lindsay could easily deal ;)

After 2 defeats of Kim this year, I'm not worried about the match.....ask me on the day and I might be a little nervous but never worried. Who knows, one of the people in Kim's quarter might spring a suprise :haha: but I doubt it.

Hopefully Lindsay will continue her streak, although the poll in GM's says differently - but then again, Lindsay is full of suprises ;)

 Andrew is his usual optimistic self in the poll thread ;) Apparently Kim in 2: 6-1, 6-3. At least we know Lindsay will win everytime he says she won't ;) j/k:kiss:

I just looked at the Stanford draw and Lindsay and Kim are drawn to play in the semi finals. Is this the year that Lindsay and Kim havr to play each other at some stage in every tournment they are both playing in. I like Kim but even I'm getting sick of hearing about her playing Lindsay. But apart from that though Lindsay seems to have a great draw and Venus is all over other side.

I can't help it that I have an online addiction.

If Patty doesn't show up playing and thinking like a retard, she could beat Queen Vee. But, Patty shows up that way at least 50% of the time, so whatever.

Angela...meh. I've seen her play about four times, and Wimbledon was the best I've ever seen her play by far. She too can make loads of UE's and is very inconsistent.

Kim's quarter is pathetic. I'd beat that crap.

Lindsay could/should win against KFC, but won't. Because even though she's beaten KFC twice this year, too good, too good. Lefts for Laguna Beach now to make babies with Leach. And I think mentally she's going to be really shaky now in general...

6-1 6-3 was a little bit harsh. But, yesterday was a bad day, so I didn't care. I still think straight sets for KFC, like 7-5 6-3. Or, she could annoy me, and pull that crap like she did in LA 2003, and do 6-1 3-6 6-1.

i don't know the exact times they played on hardcourts in 2003. bet they played numerous times and kim was definitely ALOT better then and if anyone says Lindsay was playing in 2003 like she has been summer 2004 to now then you're crazy. so really to be honest those matches don't mean anything to me because lindsay would always just give up. now Lindsay isn't giving up, kim is pretty much expecting Lindsay to just give her the match and Lindsay doesn't want to do that, i really think Lindsay will be really hungry to beat Kim again. and i hope she can do it.

Go Lindsay :bounce:

Jelena was playing really well in Dubai and Lindsay kinda stunk. She's a legitimate threat if they play but not a huge one. Haynes played really well against Serena when she stunk and Serena won. Not a big threat. If Lindsay doesn't get to the semis, I'll eat my hat.

Lindsay will be motivated and the faster court will help... Lindsay is the most underated number one player in a long time. I don't agree that her form will be bad because of her injury, she's played tennis professionally for over 13 years. Similarly, she's been very good mentally all year and that'll continue AND she loves Stanford.

Indian Wells went to three when Lindsay was playing worse than she was now on a slower surface... it'll be a three setters and is very up in the air. I don't think we should be cocky but we shouldn't be down on her as if she hadn't played an awesome match just a couple of weeks ago. Lindsay's movement is worse on hard than grass and Kim's better though.

has anyone seen lindsay on the practice courts at stanford this week???

as i have just read this;

Her back pain remains an issue. Davenport had to withdraw from the July 19-20 matches in World Team Tennis, for whom she competes with the Springfield (Mo.) Lasers, and she was unable to play for the United States in the recent Federation Cup event in Moscow (Anastasia Myskina's upset of Venus propelled the Russians to victory).

"Just when the back was doing a little bit better, I went out to hit some (last) weekend and it kind of let go on me again," Davenport said. "I'm hoping it will clear up and I can play Stanford. It's always been one of my favorite tournaments.

Also, Groenefeld will play Peer [qualifier] and the winner will play Lindsay. Peer beat Mirza [who's been placed as a LL in Rubin's place] in straight sets and Mirza beat Groenefeld in straight sets in Cinci... so, Lindsay will probably play Peer for the first time in the second round.

I don't mind the zig-zag top. I am very glad the pink/yellow/blue hideous nike tops for the start of the year are in the past though. There should be a new outfit on Thursday, she didn't seem to like the RG one and the one she wore for a couple of rounds at Wimbledon... I think it was a bit tight for Lindsay, I think she favours practicality. I can't wait to see her again!

Also, what's this months Ace magazine like Lindsay-wise? I couldn't flick through it 'cause it's wrapped and since Wimbledon I've grown to despise Venus. I can't help it, I just do... I wasn't a big fan before or anything but now I actually stand her.

My biggest problem with Venus at Wimbledon (and i have NEVER been a fan of either sister) is the complete lack of graciousness. Even when Sue was intyerviewing her she had to be REMINDED to congratulate Lindsay on a great tournament and even then it was like "Oh yeah, she's a great player.......and now i want to thank my fourth dog's cousins nieces pups for helping me with this victory!" BI-ARTCH!

It's not like Venus has never been a runner-up before. Think how gracious Serena ALWAYS was to Venus... Maria was more gracious to Serena last year, IMO. As my Dad kept saying, 'why does Davenport keep giving it away?'

AND, Andrew, I totally agree that Lindsay was annoying when she said her back didn't hinder her. WHAT?! 4-2 40-15 - back hurts - broken.

Geez, it's Thursday and she hasn't played a match yet. How annoying.

I watched the Wimbledon final on TV for the first time yesterday, and Lindsay did choke. 4-2 40 15, DFl, 2UFE and 2 dodgy shots from Venus to finish off the point at the net. MP - simple BH with no pace down the middle, Vee kills it for easy winner. She didn't dominate when it counted. After that 25 stoke rallly, (that would have given her 2 MPs) she was dead. Oh well.

Kim in the semi's. Please give it your best. :)

Well, as said Lindsay is on about 2pm Stanford time, that's 10pm UK (11pm CET). There is no live scoreboard online (as I have found out :( ) so you can either follow scores using the scoring thread method as I did the other day for a couple of other matches. Or, if you fancy being a bit technicel you can follow scores on Sony Ericsson mobiles on wap at this address: wap.sonyericsson.com/tennis

Before you do that, you need to register on the sony ericsson website: http://www.sonyericsson.com/tennis/cm/2.10

fill in your email and password etc. then go to your email and activate the account - this is important!

If you don't have Sony Ericsson phone, or like me you don't want to spend 10p per minute finding out scores then you can use the cheats way by downloading a 30-day free trial of WinWAP for Windows. See the following post for details: http://www.wtaworld.com/showpost.php?p=5850546&postcount=321

I have done that and it really is quite simple :D

No, no, I saw 'WTA Tennis' on Sunday at 3, I believe...?

Also, Cincinnatti was never shown, they don't show tier III's.

Yes, you are right...Semi-Final highlights at 3pm on sunday on Euro 1. I got all the schedules from the latest ACE, so the semi-final highlights must be an addition after the schedule got printed or something.

But my origional post is the correct time for Finals highlights.

It's worse than just a loss people, 5-0 retired. Seems like Lindsay is out with an injury!!!! Don't know what it is or how serious it is, hopefully there'll be something in a few hours.

This isn't worst that a loss at all. I can't understand why she came out to play 5 games, surely she'd have known from practice that she wouldn't be able to play.

I'll check the website now, is there any quotes from Lindsay?

Something:

"It felt fine earlier but this morning, it locked up on me, and I knew it was going to be a tough day," said Davenport, who claimed the Bank of the West Classic title in 1998, 1999 and last year. "In hindsight, I may have been rushing to play, but I love this event and really wanted to come. It's tough to walk away from something you enjoy."

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) -- Fighting a twinge in her back, Lindsay Davenport tried to convince herself that she could deal with the pain for a few games and then it magically would go away.

Instead, Davenport's hard luck with her health continued.

The top-seeded Davenport retired in the first set of her opening match Thursday at the Bank of the West Classic with a strained lower back, the same injury that hampered her in the Wimbledon final earlier this month.

"I knew it was going to be a tough day," she said. "I did everything I could do. It's frustrating because it's so on and off. ... It's almost moody. I get clearance to play, clearance to practice and clearance to do stuff, and then it flares up again."

In Thursday's late match, fourth-seeded Kim Clijsters defeated Ai Sugiyama 6-1, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals.

Davenport, ranked No. 1 in the world and playing her first match since losing the longest Wimbledon women's final to Venus Williams, trailed 5-0 to Anna-Lena Groenefeld when the trainer came on court to examine her. Davenport shook hands and conceded the match several minutes later.

Davenport stretched for a backhand during a practice earlier in the day when her back "locked up." She underwent two hours of treatment, and decided to give it a go, but quickly realized she wasn't right.

"It was pretty clear after I served the first game that I didn't have any real mobility in my back and wouldn't be able to reach much," she said.

She experiences pain and spasms on the lower left side of her back. It bothers her most when she turns or extends to serve. Davenport, the defending champion of this event, hoped she could work through it and eventually loosen up.

Her back first started bothering her in the third set of the Wimbledon final, and she lost 4-6, 7-6 (4), 9-7 to Williams in a match that lasted 2 hours, 45 minutes.

Davenport took two weeks off afterward and didn't play Fed Cup.

"It's tough to play matches at 30-40 percent of where you need to be at," she said. "My whole life is basically revolved around treatment, eating and trying to practice in between."

Davenport's early exit eliminated the chance of a much anticipated rematch with Williams in Sunday's final. Davenport, who beat Williams for the title last year, looked off from the start of the match, struggling to get to balls she usually would reach with ease. She trailed 3-0 only six minutes in.

Now, the top priority for the 29-year-old Davenport is being healthy for the U.S. Open, which begins Aug. 29 in New York.

"I don't know what to say except I'm doing my best," she said. "I still have four or five weeks before New York, and that's definitely my main goal."

Clijsters, on the same side of the bracket as Davenport, is now the favorite to reach the final.

"I was very surprised and shocked to see her back was sore," Clijsters said. "She's a great girl who I always got along well with. I don't know how much longer she's going to play, and you want it to end well, where she decides when she wants to finish and not because of an injury. It's sad."

STANFORD, California (Reuters) - Lindsay Davenport pulled out of her second round clash against Germany's Anna-Lena Groenefeld at the Stanford Classic on Thursday, when a lower back strain forced her to retire while trailing 5-0.

The defending champion and top seed struggled to move around the court in her first match since losing the Wimbledon final to Venus Williams earlier this month.

"I went for a backhand and it just locked on me again," said the American, who had complained of tightness in her back earlier this week.

"I knew I was in for a tough day. It's frustrating because it's so on and off. I will be really good for a few days and then just flair up the next day."

Groenefeld now plays Frenchwoman Nathalie Dechy in the quarter-finals.

The 29-year-old Davenport said she would do whatever it took to be ready for the U.S. Open, which begins of August 29.

"I still have four or five weeks before New York," she said.

"That's my main goal and if that means having to pull out of the next three weeks, I'm ready to do it. Hopefully by that time it's not an issue."

Davenport is also the top seed for next week's Acura Classic in San Diego but must be considered a doubtful starter.

"I'll make a decision by Sunday," she said. "I would say I'm below 50-50."

Trying to look this from a positive side, i prefer a frehser Lindsay from the USO. If she arrives as no. 2 don't care. Even this could be good for her. And i love the visor, the hair and the orange top :inlove: :yeah:

Yeah, I tend to agree with you. I really don't care if Lindsay turned up as the #2 seed, it really makes no difference which side of the draw you'll be on. All being #1 in the world garantees is that you'll definately be at the top of the draw, just the same as being #2 garantees you being at the bottom ;)

I would prefer that Lindsya have some sort of match practice going into the US Open, but sh'es done well at wimbledon several times without any match practice, but saying that; going into the USO "cold" would mean she hadn't played a full match for close to 7 weeks - and that's not really ideal.

Lindsay knows herself and her own limits better than we do, so I would never question the master :D

She looks sad more than ill.

There's no real point rooting for Kim unless you really want to. If she's 9-12, which she pretty much is garunteed to be, she'll face seeds 5-8 in the fourth round.

Anyway, I hope Lindsay pulls out of ALL of the California tournaments. Then, maybe take a WC into Toronto or New Haven to warm up for the US Open.

I don't get why Lindsay hadn't pulled out of San Diego. Unless she rests it's assumably only a matter of time before her back locks again. It'd be nice if she finally won New Haven, and Mauresmo is the only top player in that field so she really should win if she plays.

I'm pretty sure that rule was only changed for the ATP tour. The rules for logos are governed by each seporate sporting tour, whether it be PGA, LPGA, WTA or ATP etc....each have their own advertising rules just the same as Grand Slams/events have their own rules regarding ads and logos.

I have just checked ACE mag and it was the ATP, not the WTA that has relaxed logo size rules:

"The ATP has bowed to pressure from clothing manufacturers and changed one of it's "dress and equipment" rules. Logos, but not lettering, can now fill a space of up to 12 inches on shirts. The ruling comes after a dispute between Nike and Adidas over the legality of the giant Nike "Swoosh" graphics Rafeal Nadal sported this spring."

The size of the Nike logo on Lindsay's shirt certainly doesn't exceed 12 inches, but they are probably pushing the boat a bit in an attempt to force relaxed rules on the WTA as well.

On the other hand, it's possible that because it is black in colour, on the bright orange that it looks bigger. I have an orange Nike T-shirt from about 6 seasons ago, although the orange is a bit darker - like a rusty orange - and the logo is black which makes it look huge!
