As the title suggests Lindsay has withdrawn from the two WTT matches she was going to play this week as her back is not fully healed. This may not mean much now but it could by this time next week here is the press realease

Lindsay Davenport, the world's top ranked player, has withdrawn from WTT due to a back injury suffered during the Wimbledon finals. Davenport, the top draft pick of the Springfield Lasers, was scheduled to play two WTT matches this season - July 19 in Springfield and July 20 in Houston.

Davenport was practicing on Sunday in anticipation of playing in Springfield and Houston this week but said her back was not responding in time to play her WTT matches. Davenport is a long-time supporter of WTT and 2005 would have marked her 7th season in the League.

"It's very disappointing because I love playing World TeamTennis and I was looking forward to playing in Springfield and Houston this summer. I hope to get the opportunity to return next year to WTT."

Springfield owner John Cooper said he was hopeful that Davenport would play World TeamTennis next season and that the Lasers plan to protect their rights to Davenport in the 2006 WTT Player Draft.

Springfield plans to field their regular roster player lineup for the remainder of the season which ends July 24. For more information about the Springfield Lasers, visit www.springfieldlasers.com or call (417) 864-1339.

Hope she is right to go next week

She's either fine, or she's not. She needs to make up her mind. Personally, I think the injury is more serious than she's saying. But then, why kiss Vee's ass at Wimbledon? Whatever. Queen Vee #1 in our mind, obviously.

If her back really is troubling her then I hope the extra weeks rest will help her out - I was hoping it was a little muscle strain but I am hoping that this is just precautionary and it's not as serious as she's making out. Then again, she pulled out of Fed Cup which is very important to her, on the other hand she knew the tie was on red clay which she hates and she would have traveled all the way to russia for the weekend.

Who knows, but I hope she's fine :D

I don't understand why this is relevent. Why would it be "Queen Vee #1 in our mind" when Lindsay has said she is still injured? I'm not sure why you've come up with this conclusion.

thanks :D

Because as I said, she's either fine, or she's not. After the Wimbledon final, she was kissing Venus' ass left and right. "Oh no. She was just too good. I was fine." Well, when she pulls from two events, apparently she's not fine.

And jacs, let's not edit my posts again.

LOL, ok, I see what you mean now. So really, you think she shouldn't have said, "Venus was too good" because it could give Venus the mental edge again? Good point, but then Lindsay has never been the one to blame conditions of injury...or she could have used that excuse for several times in her career.

I guess she either had to make the decision of doing what a lot of other players do by saying, "well, the injury was a huge factor, it happened at a crucial point I could have won if the back didn't go....nothing to do with the way venus played..." or just say, "yeah, venus played great, she came up with points when she needed to....".

I can't fully remember but I don't think Lindsay exactly said, "the back is fine, Venus just played too good" but i do think Lindsay was right in giving Venus the credit when she bought out the bast game when needed....even though Lindsay was unable to do a lot more at 4-2 and a back problem.

But you do hold a valid point about the possible mental edge thing, if that's what you meant. I guess we'll see in the next couple of months and I greatly look forward to it ;)

I edit when I feel it is appropriate. Your post contained strong words against the player that this particular forum is supporting. There's a difference between stating your opinion and being offensive.

I will do this again to your posts and any other poster here when I catch such things. I believe this is quite understandable.

I have to take strong words from others alot. Why aren't they edited? Oh, I know, because I'm evil, apparently.

From now on, I'll respect your authority as moderator of an unofficial Lindsay Davenport fan club.

It's not that Lindsay kissed Venus's ass as you put it Andrew it's Lindsay being a good sport and it not always easy when you lose a match like that and let's face it if the shose had been on the other foot Venus would have said the injury was the reason she lost not Lindsay's good play. I for one was very proud to call myself a Lindsay fan after the way she carried herself after the Winbledon final and it the very reason I admire her and I will really miss her when she does finally retire.

Let's hope she can play in Stanford and her fully commitment before the US Open and then win the US open and let's all get behind her in her efforts.
