View Full Version : Iva in Charleston

GO IVA GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bounce:

Iva has Bianka Lamade in round 1...Lamade is a very good claycourter but is not playing so great at the moment so I will be quite surprised if Iva loses...that being said, Amanda Coetzer lurks and Jelena Dokic is a potential 3rd round opponent.

Anyway, true to my form  I refuse to make any bold assumptions, I just hope Iva cuts loose and shows them that the win against Amanda was no *one time deal*...I expect Iva to be back soon anyway :)

Good luck diva ;)

Apr 14th, 2002, 01:38 PM
I didn't look beyond round 2... Lamade is definitely beatable, I'm pretty confident Iva will go through. I'm actually surprised that Lamade has had her best results on clay, I saw her at Wimbledon last year against Dementieva and she's got really nice volleys. Not that powerful though and absolutely no mental focus. And I expect it'll be Coetzer in round 2 - Coetzer's in bad form but so is her opponent, Marie-Gaiane Mikaelian. So there'll hopefully be a repeat of last week's victory! :bounce:

Dokic in r3... but she's ill at the moment.

Apr 15th, 2002, 02:25 AM
I think Iva should have played Budapest instead, because a title there would've done wonders for her confidence, as well as give her some points. However, I am very happy with her draw here and I think she can do some damage.

Good luck in Charleston, Iva the Diva! :D

No Amanda in second round. Schiavone takes her place...

*prepares all the dolls in advance*

Apr 15th, 2002, 05:17 PM
lol Master Lu ;) Start preparing the Mikaelian doll guys :fiery:

Iva won!!!!!! She is safely thru and now plays the young Swiss up and comer...MGM hits very hard, but so does Iva...should be quite a slugfest! Im confident Iva will pull this one out :)

GO IVA!!!!!! MARCH FORWARD!!!!!!!!

Apr 15th, 2002, 06:28 PM
Iva Majoli def. Bianka Lamade .... i'm a bit confused, on the Sanex website the result is 7-5, 6-3, but on the FFC site is 7-5, 5-3 (ret.)

So I guess Lamade retired ...

Tough second round opponent for Iva ...

Apr 15th, 2002, 07:22 PM
Iva won :bounce: :bounce: excellent news! Marie-Gaiane... she wasn't in form before this tourney, but she must have played well to beat Schiavone. She beat Elena D last year :fiery: so she can have some extra pre-match voodoo.

*hopes for Iva to win two matches in a row*

Master Lu
Apr 15th, 2002, 08:06 PM
Lamande didn't retire. Sanex site is correct. Never trust the FFC site, at least not this year. It's terrible how many mistakes there are. There's a couple of other matches that reportedly ended with a 5 something set. All actually ogt to 6... Stupid

byw, MGM doll is ready, but I'm out of ideas! what should I do with it? nasty, of course, but what...

*tries to think of something*

Apr 15th, 2002, 11:21 PM
Family Circle Cup had many matches ended at 5 in the last set.... sheesh you think a Tier I would be able to come up with something better. ;)

So happy about Iva's win today!!!
Go on and win some more Iva!
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Apr 16th, 2002, 02:53 AM
Well no rest for Iva! She's playing again on Tuesday...GO IVA!

She really shouldnt lose this match, but up and coming stars usually give it their all in these big events, so this is a very dangerous match.

Mikaelian is very powerful but she is quite a big girl (no offence)...I saw her play (and lose) to Maggie Maleeva in Melbourne this year and she seemed to lose a lot of steam as the rallies got longer and the match wore on...obviously she outlasted the very dogged Francesca, so her fitness is up to scratch, but hopefully she might still be feeling the effects

Apr 16th, 2002, 09:44 AM
Gah! Random note - Marie-Gaiane appears to have acquired an 'h' out of nowhere, she's listed everywhere as 'Marie-Gaianeh' now!

Um... it's a sunny day today and I'm not feeling in a nasty mood. Ah - got it!

*leaves Marie-Gaiane(h) doll, with or without h, out in baking sun to cook slowly*

Good luck Iva! :bounce:

some more last minute voodoo

*takes the doll to the trolls next door*

*earthquakes their music produces slowly rips apart the doll*

*bombs the troll's room*

There, two flies with one sling.

*feels so much better now*

Iva won 6-2 6-4!!!!!!

Her next victim: Jelena Dokic

Apr 16th, 2002, 10:59 PM
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I had a feeling about this!!!! I do believe that if Iva beats Jelena, then it would be her first QF of a tournament higher than a Tier 3 in 4 years

She reached 2 Tier 3 finals during the last 18 months, but her last big level QF was at RG 98...I could be mistaken however. Anyone remember otherwise? I cant be bothered checking with ITF :p

Anyhow, GO IVA GO!!!!!!!!!! :D

Apr 16th, 2002, 11:10 PM
YAY!!! So glad Iva won her match today... go on and beat Dokic to get into the QF's!

Good job Iva!

Well, if Iva beats Dokic, she'll most likely meet Coetzer in the QF. I really feel she has a great chance there. And if she get's to SF (lol, yaeh, I'm getting waaay ahead) it's probably gonna be the first time in a loooong while I won't root for Monika.

But first things first.

*masacres the Dokic doll*
Or was then done before? I can't remember... Oh well...

Apr 17th, 2002, 03:09 PM
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

*happy* *happy*

Woo-hoo, two in a row and she's beating everyone she's supposed to beat. Now, remember you beat Jelena on the green clay last year, remember she had to pull out of Amelia Island injured... and GO IVA GO!!!!! :bounce: :bounce:

of course, it might be Smashnova...

*prepares Jelena and Anna S dolls for ritual slaughter*

Master Lu
Apr 17th, 2002, 07:52 PM
Well it is Smashnova, after all. I'd actually rathe it was Dokic, who seemed (and has now been proven) vaurnauble and worth more point, but I'm sure Iva can roll over Smashnova.
Amanda is also having some truoble with Zanetti
We'll see, I guess...

Just checked. Amanda won in a 3 setter. Iva's path looks better and better. :)

Apr 17th, 2002, 11:47 PM
Im confident Iva will get thru this :)

The only way Iva will lose if she gets frustrated by Anna's smart tactical play...hope Iva can keep her head on and prepare for what could be a battle of wills! Its tough playing players like Anna, but hopefully Iva has her game ready and marhces forward!

Apr 18th, 2002, 11:30 AM
I'd rather it was Dokic too... Anna S has just the sort of game which could give Iva fits. Iva needs to really impose herself on the match from the start, not make any loose shots, and hit through Smashnova.

I doubt Coetzer will make it past Suarez... I want Paola to win that match, but if Amanda pulls it out she'll be an easier opponent for Iva.

Apr 18th, 2002, 09:37 PM
Iva def. Anna 6-1 3-6 6-2!!!!

Amanda also won!

Apr 18th, 2002, 11:24 PM
Woohoo! :bounce:

I had this strange feeling when she beat Lamade that she couldve gone far in this tourney...now the final is NOT out of the question

I always knew she was going to win this match, but how is she going to fare now that she has to face another tiny scrambler? Time will tell....I dont think we should read into last weeks thumping too much...that was a first round match and this is a QF...obviously to beat Paola, Amanda must be playing well...so IMO this will be a much tougher match but I still believe Iva will win it :) :D

Apr 19th, 2002, 08:27 AM
Another match between two of my faves :(

I'll be happy no matter who wins, because i love them both - i think both have a good chance of making the final if they win this round :)

Terry...i was at the maleeva/mikaelien match at the AO as well and it was a very small court, i was probably sitting right near you :o.

Apr 19th, 2002, 12:24 PM
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: Iva in a QF, yay!

Even with my pessimism I'm giving Iva the edge over Amanda... if you look at the scores, Amanda's struggled in most of her matches so far. I'm really surprised she managed to get past Suarez, actually.

Anyway, she'll be in VERY big trouble if she beats Iva, so she'd better not.

Woohoo! 6-3 7-5 over Amanda!

I have done some calculations and Iva will now move to approximately no.45 in the world...if she can beat Sandrine she'll go toa round no.36...and if she wins the title she moves to top 30 (if beats Jen) :o

Welcome back Iva ;)

What a perfect bday present for me!! :)

Good luck in the semis! Oh, wait did I say semis? I meant the final! My bad...

:bounce: :bounce:

Apr 20th, 2002, 02:33 AM
I'm absolutely thrilled Iva's finally hitting her stride. It's too bad Sandrine's about to trip her. ;)

Seriously, it's great to see Iva break thorugh here. Sandrine will undoubtedly have her hands full with Iva playing with reckless abandon on her favorite surface. I think it could go either way and I'll be happy for whoever wins...

Just PLEASE let it be Sandrine!!!

Apr 20th, 2002, 01:50 PM
Happy birthday Master Lu!

Ed...we shall soon find out ;) I will be happy whoever wins as well.

But PLEASE let it be Iva

Apr 20th, 2002, 03:14 PM
oh YES, what a fantastic result, it's been far too long since the last one like this.

Iva has a slight advantage over Sandrine in that Sandrine must be absolutely exhausted by now, after the Amelia Island shenanigans and God knows how many 3-setters here. I like 'em both... but Iva had better win

I'm sure Sandrine's Marines don't want her to fall victim to our 100% effective voodoo :p

Apr 20th, 2002, 04:17 PM
Good luck Iva against Sandrine :)

Lets win this title girl ;)

Apr 20th, 2002, 05:54 PM
6-2 5-4!!!! you're one game away from the final diva!!!

what a dream final this will be... Iva vs. Patty!!!!
Those who say women's tennis doesn't have depth should look at this tournament! ;)

Thanks Iva's Fan. :)

OMG. I'm still in shock! It was deffinately worth being Iva's fan all these years!!

Iva can win this!!

Go Iva!!

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Apr 20th, 2002, 11:43 PM
I can't believe this is happening :bounce:

Who would have thought a Patty Versus Iva Final :) I'm so excited

Apr 21st, 2002, 12:58 AM
ok so I'll eat my words. :p

Congrats to Terry and all the Divas. I know it's been a painful and laborious road but it makes results like these even sweeter. And now that Iva's derailed my girl, she MUST win the title here!

Go grab that hardware Iva, it's yours for the taking.

Good luck in the finals, Iva! You'll need it ;)

Ok, so this doesn't actually mean anything, but I really have this good feeling about the final... :bounce:

And since I'm gonna be watching it, it better come true!

Go Iva!

Apr 21st, 2002, 04:25 AM
Awesome win for Iva!! This will definitely help her confidence! I saw her cracking some backhand-down-the-line which will be a key shot against Patty to exploit her (I feel )weaker backhand. Excited to see this match. Go Iva.

Apr 21st, 2002, 11:19 AM
I also have a good feeling about this :)

IMO Iva has absolutely nothing to lose. Forget about those past thrashings by Patty...they havent played in a long time so that means nothing.

I saw some of the semi against Sandrine earlier today on TV and both werent at their best but Iva certainly showed glimpses and went for a lot of her shots.

Im quietly confident, but Patty is certainly the favorite.

Good luck

Apr 21st, 2002, 11:47 AM
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

A TIER I FINAL!!!! After all these years... which just makes it all the more sweeter!

Patty's certainly the favourite... but neither Jenn nor Serena ever played Patty at her best, and they didn't know how to deal with it. Iva's already got her revenge on two old nemeses, and a third awaits...

GO IVA! :bounce:

(I love this tournament... to think it started with Capriati, Seles, Serena, Mauresmo and Dokic - and ended with Iva and Patty.)
