USTA usually does some crappy selecting:

I think:

Shenay Perry
Meilen Tu
Ashley Harkleroad
Bethanie Mattek
Jessica Kirkland
Carly Gullickson
Alexandra Stevenson
Zuzana Zemenova

Does Shenay not qualify on merit of her ranking for a place in the main draw???

Anyway I think Alex Stevenson,Jewel Peterson,Shadisha Robinson and hopefully Jelena Dokic will get wcs.

It is common knowledge that USTA only gives wildcards to American players.

Tu wasn't given one last year, so she'll probably have to fend for herself in qualies once again. If she qualifies this year, she'd be the first player I can remember who qualified for all four slams in one year.

Did Zemenova win the NCAA championships? The winner gets in I think.

Stevenson isn't deserving IMO until she at least wins a match this year. If she can't win in challengers, she should have to qualify for the US Open. Perry might be forced to qualify.

What about Chanda? Will she get direct entry based on protected rank? If not, she'll get a WC.

Anyway I think Alex Stevenson,Jewel Peterson,Shadisha Robinson and hopefully Jelena Dokic will get wcs.
You mean HOPE right? Because I don't see any of them getting WC into the maindraw.

Jessica Kirkland and Megan Alexander will prolly get one.(both Junior players)

I ceertainly think Ashley Harkleroad deserves one the way shes been playing these past few weeks. Would like to see J.Do get one (even just for qualies...you WILL accept it Jelena). I would also like to see Vakulenko get one cos her performance at wimbledon was highlly impressive and shows she deserves to be back in the top 100, if she can compete like that.

you ask good questions :)

Tu has been playing a lot better this year. And she qualified for all the other majors, so she deserves a break.

Zemenova won the NCAA's. Amber Liu won't get in

Stevenson wasn't deserving last year either, but she got one. :o And Perry is one of America's 'future girls' And she's not that good.

I'm sure Chanda will get the injury ranking or whatever.

There is no way Jewel and Shadisha are getting wildcards.

1. Zuzana Zemenova
2. U18 National Champ
3. Ashley Harkleroad
4. Jessica Kirkland
5. Carly Gullickson
6. Shenay Perry

these ones seem like sure bets to me, leaving 2 spots open which could be determined based on performance in the hardcourt events leading up to the Open. Angela Haynes is right around the cut-off mark, and should get in, but if she doesn't she'll get a WC too. Mary Gambale may have a chance for the WC, she's only played a couple events this year but she is young and did beat Irvin, Perry, Lee-Waters, and Jackson (on clay anyway) so if she can get a couple of decent efforts on hardcourt too I think she will get one. The last one may either be a pity wildcard for Stevenson (unless they feel she should use her protected ranking to play qualies) or perhaps Alexa Glatch.

I thought Alexa would have gotten one, but I wasn't sure. I think Alexus Jones will get one into qualies :)

Alex won't get one this year, they are done with her.

I wouls say that Harkleroad and Kirkland are pretty much locks. Haynes and Osterloh shouldn't need them. I also hope Sunitha Rao gets one, and I think Kelly McCain has got a shot at one as well.

The locks:
Ashley Harkleroad
Jessica Kirkland
Zuzana Zemenova
U18 Champs

Probable other four:
Shenay Perry
Alexa Glatch
Carly Gullickson
Alexandra Stevenson

Other possibilities
Mary Gambale (she should get one over Stevenson among others, but won't).
Bethanie Mattek

There are also some other players that I'm not sure whether they will get in directly or not, and if they don't they could take up some wildcard positions. I'm not sure what the situation is with Chanda and her injury ranking, if she doesn't get in the main draw, she'll surely get a wildcard. Lilia Osterloh and Angela Haynes are also right on the border, Haynes would definitely get one, while Osterloh would be cutting it close for a wildcard, if she didn't get in directly.

Oooh, the long-awaited Alexus Jones. Something tells me we'll be in a different decade by the time she plays the US Open.... ;)

Alexa Glatch and Mary Gambale are probably the most talented Americans of their age group. I wonder why Gambale wasn't granted a qualies WC last year, but Glatch, who is about 9 months younger and has had slightly less sucess, was given one. I'm sure the USTA has their favorites, and I suspect Gambale isn't one based on her unconventional route and coaching, and her height. Both are likely bound for qualies

Knowing the USTA, no non-American players will get in given that Zemenova is already a WC, so Anna Tatishvilli won't get one.

Shikha Uberoi is playing for India I believe, so I can't imagine the USTA wanting to give a WC to her.

Osterloh is the type of player who wouldn't get a WC. She had her chances....many of them.

Hmm...locks IMO are Harkleroad, Gullickson, Kirkland, and Zemenova. Does the U18 winner really get in? Who was it last year and when is it held?

Shika Uberoi

The thing about Uberoi is she switched nationalities, so I don't think they'll give her one anymore, but you never know, she did perform well last year.

1. Zemenova? NCAA champ
2. USTA 18s champ. Who might that be??? (top prospects)
3. Chanda
4. Shenay
5.Harkleroad
6.Kirkland
7. Gullickson
8. maybe glatch ... does the USTA give one to the junior winner from the year b4, wasn't that Krajicek...or does she even need one?

I don't think Stevenson deserves one at the moment.
Uberoi is playing for India I think so she won't get one.
Lui got a couple but that was as the NCAA champ....

I think Jackson & Haynes are locks if they need it which hopefully they won't.

Who knows if Shenay will even play the US Open! She's been injured all year and I just recently read an article that she's thinking of getting surgery on her knee

Jessica Kirkland won the girls' USTA 18s, and lost to Randriantefy in the first round. I doubt Meilen Tu will be awarded a WC into the MD -- she's just too old. On the bright side, she has qualifed for all the slams she has played in. It's going to be tough for her to qualify I am sure, but who knows, going three for three has to only add to confidence.

MD
1 Ashley Harkelroad
2 Angela Haynes
3 Carly Gullickson
4 Jess Kirkland
5 Mary Gambale
6 Alexa Glatch
7 USA 18s

Qualies :
Vania king, Jenni Heinser, Cory Avants, Asha Rolle, Julia Cohen, Tara Snyder, Megan Bradley, Neha Uberoi (iffy cuz shikha switched), Krysty Marcio (has been in a slump), Jewel Peterson (def older and hasnt progressed up the rankings), Alexandra Stevenson, Raquel Kops Jones. I think these will be the challengers for qualies WCS

Vania King is only 16 and is ranked #13 in the world in juniors; she deserves something.

As much as I love Cory Ann Avants, she won't get a qualifying wild card. She's gotten one for four years in a row. I wouldn't be surprised to see her get a main draw doubles wild card with Kristen Schlukebir though. Tara Snyder should get into the MD with her injury protected ranking, which I think is #112 or #113.
