To be played on clay outdoors the week of 3th October, same week as WTA Filderstadt, Tokyo and Tashkent :o :o

Played in CT La Salut (10 minutes walking from my home  ), this tournament is rumored to become WTA next year following its quickly growth:

2003 $10K Final Marta Fraga Pérez def. Ana Ivanovic 64 57 64

2004 $25K Final Laura Pous Tió def. Tzvetana Pironkova 46 75 62

We saw great finals in the first two years of the tournament between a Spanish
and two of the most promising junior players in the circuit, won by the local player both times...could we ask for a better final? ;)

Great news! There aren't too many $75Ks in the schedule, and Barcelona seems like a great place for one. I'm excited about Arantxa's involvement (though I still look forward to seeing her coach some promising young player). :)

Vamos Arantxa :D

Spain really should have a WTA tour event and I hope ASV can help to get this one on the main tour. I wonder if ASV might be able to call in a few favours and get some top names to play, even in exhibitions. I know ASV was supposed to be playing an exhibition in the Challenger that Iva is running in Croatia, so maybe Iva can play here? And seeing those pictures of Steffi in great shape, ASV should give her a call

Shame it's the same week as Filderstadt otherwise I am sure Martina Navratilova would have considered played doubles with ASV, even at a $75 Challenger as Martina and ASV are good friends and Martina often trains at Sanchez-Casal. I am sure Martina will be in Filderstadt though.

WTF??? They're stealing the project of the ITF Girona to become a WTA Tour tournament!!! :fiery: It isn't fair at all! Just because Arantxa lives in Barcelona, they give her a tournament on a plate... Girona has fought very hard in the past years to improve the level of the tournament, and now a political decision is turning it down... Assholes!!! :fiery:

Not that I'm against a return of a WTA tournament to Catalunya, but this is beyond belief... They already let slip the WTA Barcelona some years ago, why give them the opportunity to spoil it again? This really sucks...
