Amelie Mauresmo
Kim Clijsters (hmmm...)
Lindsay Davenport
Svetlana Kuznetsova
Elena Dementieva
Mary Pierce
Ai Sugiyama
Venus Williams
Elena Likhotseva
Anastasia Myskina

This isn't about who's your favourite, it's about players and how they come across to fans, media, officials and so on.

The shortlist I've put up are the players who I've observed the most positive feedback about.

I've almost omitted Serena and JHH and Sharapova cos I have heard stories about them that would make me think they may not do well and I think the others up there stand a better chance, but post if you disagree!

Let's have a jolly good discussion too!

EDIT: Mulitple choices available!

Likhovtseva, Clijsters, Mauresmo, Davenport, and Dementieva all seem to be very nice to me. You don't often hear bad things said about them.

Mary is always very gracious with her fans - she'll even sign autographs when she loses! Not many players will do that. She's also incredibly popular with the other players, I've never heard a bad word said about her. Even when Davenport and Henin were asked to basically bitch about the time she takes between points at the FO, they just said "that's just Mary".

Considering all the negativity early in her career due to Papa Pierce's shinanagins, she herself has always been popular. When I've seen her at Wimbledon practicing, the other players will go out of their way to say hi or give her a wave!

I voted for Kim (predictable, huh), but if we had three votes I would have also gone for Amelie and Myskina. Heard a great interview on radio with Amelie when she was at Wimbly (on Radio 5 in the UK) and she was sooooo nice and engaging. She came across as a person with a lovely personality and great sense of humour. She even invited the interviewer to a tasting of her best wines!

Some of them may seem nice, but who knows how they act in daily life. Some may seem nice but it's fake.

Out of the players listed, I would vote for Mary Pierce. I know many people who have spoken to her and she has always been so nice to everyone. I've never heard of anyone who has had a bad experience speaking to her. On Sunday, Fed Cup France vs. Spain tie my Spanish friend said to her (in Spanish) "I'm Spanish, but I love the way you play" and she understood, laughed, and posed for a photo, with a huge smile. The of course there are stories about people asking her something about umbrellas ... right, Sian?!? ;)

Mary Pierce is clearly the nicest !

Always positive about her opponent, she always spend time with her fan, even when she loses, even when she's training before a big match (for example her final in the French) ... The same in interview, she is always nice, and respectful.

She never said "I'm the best" or "I will have an easy time" because she has lot of respect fort all oponent, whatever her ranking is !
Then, she is probably the player, ATP and WTA, who smiles the most, even when the match is tought, even if ses loses a beautiful point.

She deserves being recognized as the nicest

I voted for Lindsay-she is my favourite but I honestly started to support her because she always came across so well. Met Lindsay and Kim twice at Wimbledon and both times they were so nice! I know you can’t tell a lot from just meeting a player but there was something so decent and sound about the two of them. Also met Mary Pierce who was also very friendly and polite. Sveta was also very polite and seemed shy and nice. When it comes to fans, media etc these ladies are almost always lovely in their manner. Momo also seems to be sound.

I'll go with Lindsay and Chanda. Clijsters and Kuznetsova go in that I'm nice because I have nothing else to offer in terms of good looks category. Although Clijsters is starting to look better in looks as of late. One eye still stays open a lot more than the other. When she smiles though it's hard to see it. So smile Kimmy. Keep on smiling. :)

It's really hard to decide.... I ended up voting for quite a few of them.

Dementieva, Clijsters, Sugiyama based on personal experiences. Pierce just because no one can say anything about her worse than "she takes a long time in between points" She doesn't even have haters on this board... that's just absurd.

Yeah, probably Molik and Hantuchova should be up there if there was more space. And the story with Misa giving a someone a lift won me over moreso, considering I liked her a fair bit prior to reading that story.

Sveta is not one of the nicest.... if you saw the post US Open final.. she was tremendously disrespectful to the USTA president, whom she ignored and didn't put any attention. Also few insults to Maria.

Myskina can't ever be one of the nicest. Her bad temper, sore loser-attitude and jealousy will never allow her to be nice. When she beated Nciole.. her remarks was that the only good thing that Nicole could do is serve... that is about it. Or what about the multiple bad bad remarks against Maria... and let's not forget the tongue out during the post FO championship final.

We can eliminate all the players who just aren't nice enough to be the nicest.

But the issue is that most of them we don't know them personally, thus, can't create a hypothesis (cause at the end they are the only ones who know if they are nice) whether their are the nicest or not.

I can go on with the Elena Dementieva, who has had also bad remarks of jealousy agianst Maria, about an off court experience in Paris(how the media followed maria and not her being finalist). Truly we don't know the reason why Kim and Lleyton broke up. Lleyton is apparently happily marreid now waiting for a baby (and it wasn't long after broke up). Perhaps Clijsters wasn't really that NICE. We barely ever heard anything of sugiyama to even say that she is nice. Just cause we don't hear about it doesn't mean she is nice (or not).

But also I could go on, telling how Myskina has helped to involve the youth in her country to get with tennis. Sharapova does a lot of service. Visiting hospitals, Tennis Clinics, Exhibition Fundraisers, her stuff rebate, are among the service she does. It is the least she could do. But she is not even in the list (demonstrating how biased the topic starter is).

Basically I think any further or past results of this poll and thread are sterile, and of inert use. This thread is not even worth the few input I gave into writting this. commentary

Mary by a long shot =)

I remember her this year in Berlin, she just came out of the players´ lounge and there was a guy who presented her with a pic of himself and Mary I guess and it was raining. She was super nice to that guy (it was probably a WTAworld-poster;), talked to him and everything and then two older women who were just standing around, came with umbrellas and Mary looked up, saw the umbrellas, turned around, smiled at the ladies behind her and said "Uhh...Merci!" It was nice. She was standing there for like 5 minutes although it was raining in the cold. Nice attitude! Most players just ran back in the lounge ignoring the people out there.

Ok, hi!

I said POST if you disagree with me, not send me some long, ranty neg-rep about how freakin biased and absurd and worthless my poll is and HOW DARE I question the popularity of Maria Sharapova. And not to EVER post such a thread again.

Yipes!

I'm not claiming this thread is definitive or official. There were limited options, so I just took the players that seemed most positive, to me, from what commentators have said & how they are regarded here.

I picked Nastya cos a lot of people seem to like her here (plus I was curious to see if she actually did badly).

Maria, and to a lesser extent, JHH, despite being left out, have not had all that many people post to defend their niceness. Surely this says something? I'm NOT a Maria hater, I think she's lovely.

This thread clearly has little scientific or statistical use, but does that mean it should be confined to the nether regions of this message board? Nope!

I got autographs from 8 out of the 10 players listed in the poll. (Kim didn't play the tournament I went to, so I haven't met her in person. Ai played it, but I didn't see her around practice courts, so didn't get to ask for her autograph. But I saw Ai's lovely assistant to her coach/mother, and I asked her to pass a picture of Ai + article from a Thai newspaper to Ai).

Is this post a joke? Honestly?

For one you post about supposed "jealousy" from Elena D. and Anastasia, then go on to to say that we don't really know the players personally?

When asked about Maria, Anastasia usually responds with something like, "You always ask me about her, she's a good player. That's it."

She once said Maria had a coarse accent when she spoke Russian. Not really a big deal.

You say all the Russians are insulting Maria, could it be because Maria is an arrogant and selfish bitch? You don't know her personally, you can't say it's not true.

The players "nominated" are there because people have had personal accounts with them where they were nice, or they received awards for their character.

What a biased poll. I don't know what your definition of nice is, so I'll assume it means possessing the qualities that make the players in my signature appealing (tennis-wise and otherwise). ;)

Don't wink at me if you're going to insinuate I'm a biased moron.

This thread is not biased, I'm limited to 10 options so I took a shot, anyway if there was some GLARING omission then people would have leapt all over it.

I think the nicest lady on tour is the lady who has to kiss the players asses even when they are being rude to them in the cafeteria. She is the nicest lady lady on tour. No doubt about it. Imagine having to put up with a player right after they lost a tight three setter or five setter?

From the few i've met in real life, I'd say Clijesters, she is such an amzing character, very friendly so down to earth and very much in touch with herself and fans....I met her after she suffered a 4th round exit at wimbledon and she seemed happy and friendly, spent time with us and signed autographs for me and a few of my friends back home, she chatted with us.....Mauresmo from the many interviews i've seen on tv seems very nice...Dementieva is very calm , sweet but you feel she is distant....Zvonereva did not seem friendly.....I've had some amazing experiences with ATP players but I guess i'm not supposed to discus those here....

At first the wonderful Elena Dementieva and on second position Sharapova. The third one is Nastya Myskina

The glaringest omission is an "Other" option.
