Welcome to Modena! We have reached the semifinals already. Top seed Francesca Schiavone was surprisingly defeated by compatriot Maria Elena Camerin, but seeds Marta Domachowska, Anna Smashnova and Flavia Pennetta all survived. With two Italians still playing there is still chance of a home winner.

Looking at the ranking Pennetta still looks like a clear favourite. She is looking for her third title after Bogota and Acapulco this year. Marta Domachowska who took a title earlier this year in Seoel, is also looking for another title though. Maria Elena Camerin made the final in ITF Fano only two weeks ago and is looking to do one better this time. Anna Smashnova might be the dark horse here with no title under her belt.
