I have played for years with a slice backhand and would love a one-handed topspin backhand. I have hit it very few times even in training but its definately something i want to learn.

I actually tried to hit it last week quite a few times when hittginw ith some guys from here, and most of the times it was a topspin moonball or sat up way too high. *jealous of henin*.

it will never be a weapon, but it would be awesome to be able to mix up my backhand more. i will rely on the forehand to close out my rallies

My slice is good, but against some players it makes life difficult such as serve/volleyers or people who love to come in to the net. You dont have many options with the slice backhand against those people and its tough...

I would like a topspin one-handed backhand as well...very hard to do for me.

I want my slice serve to be a weapon. I had to tone down the speed just to get it in. UGH

I would just like my ass to look nice in a pair of shorts. Then I can pretend I'm Serena and go out there with a mission. Kick some serious ass.

Hmm...well I have a one-handed slice too but I just switch to a two-hander when I need to hit a top-spin shot. It works pretty well. What I really want is a decent dropshot! :shudder:

What I need is a better overhead. I'm VERY good at getting to net, and I have pretty decent volleys. So every time I play, people start lobbing. It's like they're all in the same religion or something. If I let the ball bounce, they have time to get in position, and sometimes the ball doesn't bounce high enough for a good overhead. If I could take it out of the air...

What i want is a backhand 'hook'. I can hit an inside out backhand, so the ball tails away to my opponents right. (I'm right-handed) I want to be able to make it hook the other way. You have to come around the outside of the ball. Not so easy on the backhand side.

TylerW - On the one-handed topspin backhand. Take the ball low, down around your ankles, with the racket almost pointing vertically to the ground. 'Drag' the racket over the top of the ball as you swing. You can't pussyfoot it, you have to swing. You get a nice topspin, but the ball stays low. Obviously, you have to take the ball on the rise to do this most of the time.

I'll copy Volcana a bit ;)

What I NEED is a better second serve. Right now my second serve is much the same as my first serve. I don't really have a "3/4 speed." Which sometimes leads to my double faults...:o

What I WANT is a better overhead. My volley skills are pretty good, especially my wingspan. However, like Volcana's problem, whenever I play against those lobbers or just any of those people who are "scrappy" players who don't know how to hit a topspin shot to save their lives, I faulter because I can't get myself into position fast enough and then prepare for it. And then sometimes, I'll hit it out or into the net. It's just very inconsistent :(

I really need to add a kick serve to my arsenal... my only second serve is a weaker version of my first, and a slice serve comparable to Dementieva...

I have a great two hander, so naturally I'm not effective with a one handed slice... I can slice it great when I'm running and on the defensive, it comes very natural to me. But when I'm in position and want to mix up the pace or hit a slice approach shot, my timing goes way off and I usually send it long or hit a weird shot that sits up in the middle of the court.

To be able to serve down the T on the deuce court. I can do it pretty well on the ad side, but I think pretty much everyone can.

I Want to improve my backhand! doesn't matter one or two handed! it's really vulnerable at the moment

I just want a good serve that can consistently win me free points on the first serve, and isn't attackable on the second. But I guess most people want that.

I would really like the double handed swinging backhand volley that the Williams sisters frequently use.

Hey Stevo! I knew what you were going to say you needed before I opened this thread. ;) And guess what my little adventure into one-handed backhand land hasn't worked out. I guess I'll always be a two-handed backhander. LOL!

Ok.

What I need is a good serve.

But what I want are good returns a la Agassi/Seles.

Just a bigger first serve!! :fiery: I'm a big enough guy to have a decent first serve but for whatever reason I serve like a 70 year old woman! :p It's really disappointing, if I had a bigger first serve my overall game would just be so much more effective! :(

Me too a better serve (espicially 2nd serve)! When my father can be at the middle line (service line  ) and 1st and 2nd serve it's not normal  And when he can do perfect dropshop on my serve it's ridiculous

I'm pretty happy with all my strokes, got most of them well coached into me in the days when I was playing 10K events ( qualies mainly ). Once I knew I wasn't going to cut it as a pro I kept playing at a pretty high domestic level. However, rather than strokes I could do with working a bit on my patience and have a better tolerance of my errors.

My real weakness is my serve, sometimes i can hit them well but the only one i can actually control is the slice serve out to the deuce court. I cannot hit down the t on both sides which really makes it predictable. If i could vary my serve up and hit it with a bit more pace, i would be a force to be reckoned with ;)

what i need is to know where my serve is going. i am working on hitting it down the middle but i'm missing a lot.

what i want is a more powerful forehand. i have a good one handed bh but my two handed fh is not as strong. and if my opponent consantly picks on it, i'll either end up mishitting or throwing up moonballs.

My movement across the court is great. I'm quite a big guy and it would seem like the obvious weapon against me to run me from side to side, but since i use one hand on each side, i'm quite early to reach many of the balls and go back to attack - but i don't know how to :(
I'm such a defensive player, returning evrything quite deep, but with nothing on it, i just patiently wait for an error, or try to go for ridicoulous winners.
also - my movement up and down the court is shitty. drop-shots work on me even though i see them comming and start running! i might reach the ball, but i won't nessecerily be able to return it, or at least with a hit that could do anything to hurt my opponent, who can simbly try and lob over me since i run back bad as well
IMO - attacking more often, SOMEHOW and running better up and down the court will allow me to dictate points better, manipulate my opponent, go up to the net more (i volley very well, but my opponents understand lobbing is better) and in general put my opponent on the defensive mode, shifting the pressure from me to him.

Everyone told me the same thing that I need to improve my fitness and be good movement which I agree with them! Everything is fine with my games! :) Well, I can add one more thing... I need to be positive attitude! I mean, when I play tennis and I usually clueless like Lindsay Davenport or Klara Koukalova :o

Second serve -- after 30+ years of playing, it's still a blooper more often than not. I just need to remember to actually hit it -- not choke half way through the stroke!

I desperately need a better serve - both first and second.

I break my opponents serve often enough as i have pretty decent returns and groundstrokes, but if i just had a serve that i could at least get a cheap point or two from each service game then it would make my life so much easier. At the moment, my serve is probably like a Myskina serve.....

I would also really love to have better volleys....so many times i hit a great shot and all i need to do is move to the net and put the volley away but am reluctant to because i'm not confident with my volleys :(

Jul 12th, 2005, 01:49 AM
oh, and being fitter and quicker around the court wouldn't hurt either

and having a better dropshot ;)

and having a better slice ;)

and having a bit more power on my backhand (at the moment, it's very consistent and reliable, but not the weapon that my forehand is)

well, actually, i could really improve almost everything ;)

2nd serve: It's getting alot better, I'm starting to add a kick serve & I can now hit with topspin... but it still needs work;)

I have a really good 2 handed bh, but today I was hitting alot of one handed bh for fun & i liked that, so I might try to develop that so I have the option to go to it if necessary:)

I want to make my returns much more effective. I want to become a more aggressive returner...with consistency... easier said than done:)

your serves ok its functional, first serve isnt too attackable at all. maybe some slice or topspin on the second serve is defintely needed. i think it is attackable..

everything else is technically good, its just mental. ur volleys esp, cos in doubles u do come to net and are confident for eg. :wavey:

im sure we all want improvements everywhere. dont be greedy hehe
