Hey people,

I hope that this isn't a duplicate thread (I haven't seen another one), but WTT is on ESPN 2 right now (11pm EST). They are going to show the Martina Hingis vs. Martina Navratilova matchup....

just a heads-up...

Hingis backhand... simply the best two hander I've ever seen :hearts:

Serena Williams is not even at this competition and Mary Carillo still has to make a dig at her...... :(

I was thinking the same thing. Even when Serena has nothing to do with a particular subject, Carillo can still find a way to make a reference to her.

Wow, Hingis still has amazing touch! Some of her passing shots against Nav were . The backhand was very sweet. The second serve was weak, and the forehand wasn't terribly impressive (she could have hit through the ball with more power). But I was really impressed! Martina's still a great mover around the court... it was fun to see her play again. Good job, girl. :D

It wasn't a dig at Serena. She was just mentioning what everybody has talked about...that she needs to get in better shape. BIG DEAL...

Hingis still has that amazing feel for the game. She's one of the smartest tennis players ever IMO. Put her against a power player though and it wouldn't be the same. She could do well on the tour but she would be a GS quarterfinalist and no better probably...

Thats true, but she could still do very well in doubles

Hingis is returning great. If she can improve that serve and her feet hold up she could make a serious return.

I think if Martina did come back, she could be top 30 again for sure. She'd just need to beef up the serve and hit through her shots a bit more. If she's healthy enough to play, she could be a threat on tour, because her court sense and quickness are still very much there. She looked so happy tonight, with that constant smile on her face :D.

I can't tell when Hingis is smiling or not. She does have that overbite of hers. I couldn't even tell if she was laughing for joy or in the pain at the 99' French Open.

Top 30 isn't good enough for her expectations. She must be Top 5, or it's not happenin' for her.

I love this format... it's fast and fun! I had the tv on MUTE :tape: while listening to the Saturday Night old school mix. So I didn't get the pleasure of hearing Mary Carillo & Luke Jensen.

Sorry cellophane I didn't tape it... but make sure you watch it next Saturday same time same place. It will be Philadelphia @ Sacramento on ESPN2 at 11pm eastern.

Saying things like Serena's uncommitted to tennis and asking if she has what it takes to get back to the top of women's tennis I consider digs, and unneccesary... especially when this event has nothing to do with Serena.

Anyway, Martina played very well, I wonder if she's going to play other players like Sharapova, Graf or even Venus! I'm crossing my fingers :)

 OMG. Mary Carillo and Luke Jensen were just horrible. I couldn't commentate with either of them. I wanted to punch out Mary's lights as soon as she said something about Serena. That was such a good idea about the mute.

Hingis is just a level above everyone else when it comes to the finer things in tennis. Her anticipation was superb, her angles and touch were amazing, and her returns were aimed right at the feet of the server. It's been looooooooong overdue!! I hope some other Hingis fans got the privelege of watching this!

And notice how much Luke Jensen loved Martina's game?? She never got so many compliments from commentators when she was actually playing, that's for sure!

I see the commercials promoting Kournikova but I didn't hear Mary mention her when she listed the players that are playing this season.... Is Anna scheduled to play, or is she a question mark?

He loves her game but Luke also said that Hingis was run out of tennis because of the power game which I don't think is 100% true.

Yeah she was sharp. She killed that Chu dude in doubles. He wasn't ready for her.

I felt bad for the kid, Hingis was very clearly taking advantage of his nervousness and inexperience... literally every shot she hit was aimed at his racket, and he didn't handle it very well at all. No offense to any Chu fans but he really cost Boston a chance at being competitive in mixed.

For me i's nothing more exciting than seeing Hingis play again. the way she hits the balls, the way she moves, the way she constructs the points..i think there's no other player on the tour can do it as beautiful and technical asHingis. However, her serve is too weak nd she looks not strong enough to compete against good players on the tour. It would be a shame for me to watch her lose.....

The guy who is coaching the Sportimes said she is putting her game back together one piece at a time.

I think the wins over Nav and Jackson prove this is probably true. She needs to work some on her second serve and probably needs to get match tough, but things are getting better.

That Serena should not let herself be photographed in a bikini?

This smug smile?

I watched "Batman" yesterday on DVD (the 1989 movie with Michael Keaton) and there was a guy whose constant smile reminded me of Hingis ...
