Serena or Alicia could withdraw so she still has a pretty good shot...

That's hard to beat, for sure! And being a bit... biased, this damn well is the best Tier I tournament. Period! ;)

I'm so excited to finally to get to see the Rexall Centre. I hear it's a really top-notch venue. :D

I don't know and excuse my emission of her. I just saw the "out" list and there are some names there including hers. However the list dees compare favourably to any big tourny including gs.

Ok, last post I promise ;), I can't believe Kim is playing. The Rogers Cup is probably her worst event, especially because it's hard court, having not made it past the third round.

hi guys
it'll be my first time goin to the tourni this year
just have a few questions....
is night better than matinee... or no?
and do players practice in the surrounding courts during the earlier days anyways (since i'm kinda broke...)

first post too... so hi.

Matinee is FAR better than the evening session, because there are real tennis lovers and players galore during the day time. I'm not even sure if they have matches on Court 1 during the evening session. The practise courts (the only outdoor ones they can use without going quite some distance) are right on site, for the public's viewing. As well, some players practise on the actual match courts (like last year I saw Coria, Nalbandian, Agassi, Safin, Kuerten, Roddick, Federer, etc. use the practise or match courts). It's definitely quite some value.

Welcome :wavey:

I never thought this tournament would get both Williams' sisters to play here. If one were to withdraw, it would probably be Venus. Serena has committed here the last two years and couldn't play last year with an injury.

great lineup. Lets get a W for JHH or a W for either of the W sisters

Marie-Ève, Stephanie and Aleksandra should receive a maindraw wild card...

Strong lineup! Hope that Clijsters, Sharapova and Williams x 2 will not withdraw!!
Pierce, this year, you will not need a wild card :p

There are often quite a few withdrawals from the Summer hardcourts, so the final line-up may be different.

Any reasons for those aforementioned players for not playing??? There's still so much time left until the tournament, it just seems a bit too early to withdraw...

Possible Reasons Why Players Not Entering Toronto

Lindsay Davenport - Prefers playing American hard court events and because they are all quite consecutive during the summer, this is one of the few weeks off she can take.

Elena Dementieva - Lost early last year (2nd round following bye), therefore will play other events to change up summer.

Patty Schnyder, Vera Douchevina, Klara Koukalova, Flavia Pennetta - Not known to play Toronto (none has competed in Toronto before), taking this week off after playing quite a busy summer of hard court tennis.

Amy Frazier - Has made the quarterfinals three times in her career, but last time she played Canadian Open (2002), lost in the second round of qualifying. American, so will likely want to spend more time on home soil tournaments.

Silvia Farina Elia - Lost early two years ago in Toronto (first round) after participating in a family fun event. No points to defend, might as well take week off.

Daniela Hantuchova - I think she may get a last minute gold/silver exempy WC, but otherwise I have no idea why she skipped it. I thought she liked Toronto, having made the semis earlier in her career, but I wouldn't count her out yet.

Jennifer Capriati - Injured, and despite loving to play in Toronto (made finals in early 1990s and much later in 2000s) can't.

Conchita Martínez - Has not played since 2000, when she lost handily to Hingis. Soon after that, her play dropped and thus, skipped the event. With no points to defend, it is not necessary for her to play this event.

The stadium itself is nice. The rest of the venue left MUCH to be desired, but it was still being put together at the start of last years Masters Series tournament :o It might be better.

Unless you absolutely HAVE to see somebody close up who will probably be in the stadium, purchase a nosebleed seat and don't hit the stadium all day ;)

Any chance of anyone going to the player party- I was really tempted because you get to see all the players, look rich, and gamble with them ;). But the ticket is 200 or 100 ( I can't rememeber), but I wouldn't know anyone. Anyone going to it?

This is a great line up for Toronto, it's in my backyard so of course I will be attending and I will keep my finger cross both williams sisters get to make it, but if they both make it to TO.................will I think the draw will put them in the same half, that is my prediction..

Last year in Montreal, they wre a Fashion "Parade" with Dulko, Schiavone, Jidkova, etc. But it's true then it's cost a lot of money...

It's 200$ by person in Quebec City (for meet qualifiers and somes Maind raw players but not top players
