Myskina definitely has a chance. Venus has said she's retired. And often times, it's hard to come back after winning a title that's so important to her as Wimbledon is and play your best tennis.

Venus can win if she wants it. I dunno if she really will put her all into the match! The girl is tired!

Clay :)

Playing on clay makes this match much more interesting and even. I think Myskina will win 5-7, 6-4, 7-5. Venus tends to do badly after she does well. (ie. Instunbul to French Open)

yep, myskina beat venus the last time these two matched up on clay in 04, and the previous meeting went down to the wire on clay, should be close.

I would love to see Venus win and I voted for her, but it's not a certainty. She has a lot of confidence going into this match coming off the Wimby win and she looks very relaxed, but let's face it, she's in Russia against one of it's premier players and on red clay. It's has been said that it's tough going from such a fast surface like grass to red clay, so I don't know. Also, Venus has the pressure to continue to produce good tennis, she's the only top player on the team now and she has to be exhausted from Wimby and jetlag from travelling. Not saying that she can't handle the pressure, but it will be difficult. With all that said, I hope it's a good close match, where both play quality tennis and may the best woman win. :)

You have to give the edge to Venus who has had a better year than Myskina. Myskina last year would have the edge.

I don't know why the captain choosing Myskina instead of Petrova to play on clay????

Myskina is no good this year so far!!!!

Jul 9th, 2005, 09:41 AM
Well Petrova is unfit so Nasty is playing.I will vote for myskina. She has already battled out from difficult situations in wimby..And not by luck but with grit. And I think she is always ready to play for russia. She gets more motivated.U rem how she showed her heroism last yr Fed Cup?I am not so sure if Venus is all that motivated for us to win fed cup.She is still in air of Wimby and jumping now and then.So my pick is Nasty what you say.

I've predicted the first set right. Venus won it 7-5. Now Nastya needs to win the next two.

This is the kind of talk that comes back to bite you in the ass later. Stay humble and see if Venus finishes it.

God, I wished I could see that match! I´d say Nastya now in three, probably winning 11-9 in the third

I doubt Mykina is playing as well as you think. Venus said she was tired, and having to go back to clay. It appears that she is missing returns long, and into the net.

Dude...doesn´t bother me;)...just a few months ago, Venus probably would have double bagelled her.

"I was tired". How many times has Venus used that? If she is too tired to play then why play? She should find a new excuse or she should get fitter. I guess her country needs her.

oh, I like Mykina as well. Sad what happened to her and all. I am just not as sure if we can make much of this, even if she wins.

Well it is a big match cause it basically decides the tie if Venus loses one of her singles matches.

Dude (I love your name), as a long-time fan who´s used to being on that rollercoaster, I definetly have a good feeling (I mean nothing could be worse than the last couple of months).

Every progression is a step into the right direction

Uhhh...look out for Mashona ;)

If I didn´t want Russia to win, I would have loved to see Lindz participating. Thriller-tie.

I dont knwo what Venus is thinking playing all these matches. I mean doubles as well, after winning wimbledon. I would hate for another injury to occur.

Yeah Nastya won 5-7, 6-4, 6-2! I predicted the first two sets lol. Bad Luck Venus! Looks like Russia should win now. If Venus is tired from Wimbledon, how the hell can she play two matches tomorrow? Hope you don't over do it, don't want another injury.

 Did anyone else go as deep at Wimby in this competition?
