Some players though have to sleep in a tent...but I heard that the tourney officials actually let them rent the tents for a small fee. That is nice;)

Yeah, itīs good for her injured back!

Nooo, Justine would sleep perfectly in the overcrowded economy-class and thatīs all she needs during a tourney. Someone like her doesnīt need sleep!

I heard that all the Russian players all slept in one room, with one bed, as this is the most cost effective method to travel and catch some zzzzz whilst on tour. Yuri, I believe was banned. - He sleeps in a bin outside the hotel. Right?

Some players rent apartments-say when they're in London for a little while...

Fantastic
Jul 9th, 2005, 04:27 PM
Some players dislike staying at hotels because the ventilation systems (read: airconditioning, heating ducts) are usually teeming with those evil germs that can make a very healthy player with a lowered immune system ('specially after a rigorous sporting activity) very, very sick.

hotels of course offer players of Maria's and Martina's calibure sweets and penthouses. so of course they dont need to share rooms :). the regular hotel rooms are for lower ranked and less famous players.

I have room in my storage unit in the basement "cave" if any player needs a place to keep a parent. Its usually my "doghouse" but i think wed be willing to give it up for a player's parent.

Nah... Yuri is a protective Dad, unless every virile human male has been evacuated from the hotel floor, he'll not let his daughter have her own room, lest another man enter her room in late night hours, and of course, except the room service guys. :D
Just joking, but she is Daddy's girl. She'd still love to cuddle up with him, I think :)

Why does her mum never travel? What does she do all that time in Florida by herself, has she got a job or something? Her mother must feel quite left out. They abandoned her in Russia for 2 years and now they're travelling the world without her. My mum would never let me and my Dad leave her behind.

I donīt see the problem either. I mean itīs certainly ok for two days or so but I guess itīs different when you see each other 24/7 like Maria and her father do so I guess seperate rooms are a bit better (snorring?)...who am I kidding? The hotels certainly give her the Penthouse so basically Yuri and Maria live in the same apartment but different rooms ;)

There's nothing wrong with it if players do share rooms with their parents, especially if you're as popular as Maria. She probably has alot of stalkers and freaks trying to get close to her so she might prefer the security of sharing a room with someone.

:haha: Yeah well Maria also makes a shitload more money than my Dad and I do! ;) If we made more moeny, then I'd want my own room too... and yeah, one or two days is ok...but if it was week in and week out, you'd get pretty sick of that person being there all the time. ;)

 *looks down* err last time I checked, I was female! :haha: In fact, have been all of my 25,5 years! ;) And it's not weird... why is it weird? I mean I share rooms with my male friends too. It's no big deal. I mean you get changed in the bathroom, you go to bed... It's of course always with 2 beds - well for my Dad and I. I have 2ce shared rooms with male friends where the was only a double bed (and no, neither were my boyfriends; I have shared rooms with a boyfriend before too of course, but that's completely different. ;))

"hotels of course offer players of Maria's and Martina's calibure *sweets* and penthouses."

You mean, they turn down their beds and leave chocolates on their pillows?

Actually, one good story is that at some point late in the 90s, Hingis was staying in a hotel in Berlin and she had to vacate her room --because President Bill Clinton was going to move in. It was the presidential suite!

Obviously the top ranked girls can afford separate rooms. Ironically the rich girls at the top of the rankings often get free accomodation; while the girls with less money have to pay for rooms. Some people are kind of laughing off the idea of the girls sharing with a father or coach but after reading a couple of books of life on the tour it's very common for teenage girls ranked quite low to have to share a room with an older coach; sometimes far away from home with no family around. And sometimes the coach sees an opportunity.........

That's supposedly a lot more common than you would ever think.
