been waiting for years for this to happen :)

the article below states that marie-gaïané mikaelian has finally resolved her problems with the swiss tennis federation and will join the fedcup team as soon as she's ready to play again (she's still recovering from shoulder surgery).

Dies werde bedauert. (rom/si)

It'll be nice if MGM does well, and lessens SUI's dependence on the CCCP. (That's not the Russian acronym for the old USSR, its the Criminally Controlled Crazy Player).

Good

I kind of hoped for Ana Ivanovic (well, she trains here), but MGM is a nice choice.

Some live there who don't play for SUI, like Momo and Marion. (Plus the retired Manuela Maleeva). Maybe with the compulsory military service, Bundesrat Schmid (who ovasees both defense and sports) can "draft" them 4U. :tape:

What problems did MGM have with the Swiss Federation?

Her father Georges (a dentist) is an Armenian immigrant. When the Fed wouldn't give Marie free training and some Jr. tournament travel expenses in the early 90's, he felt it was ethnic discrimination against his family.

So she played all her Jr. tennis as an Armenian, and he threatened after she won Tashkent in '02 to move them to FRA (which they had an automatic right to, since he was born in then French occupied Lebanon).

Papa Georges was pissed off bigtime when they gave such help to the kids of Leo Casanova (not just Myriam, but her sister Daniela, a year older but much smaller. Dani retired with a chronic injury a couple of years ago, BTW).

Ana trains there with Maggie together. They have the same coach and through Maggie Ana can work with Paganini I heard. So it's clear she lives there, But living somewhere and not playing is something different.

Originally, I don't know. (Of course one would think of the Italian part of SUI, like Lugano, based on their name). They've lived in St. Gallen for years (rather close to Trubbach, where Marti's mother and stepfather still live, and now have a rather new tennis academy).

It would have been a bigger step forward for Swiss fed cup tennis to resolve problems with Patty in stead of a still injured Mikaelian...

True, but right now I think they can use anyone who can hold on to a raquet
Seriously I think it's Great that Marie-G will get a chance to play for her country, based on previous results she really deserves it. :)

Why? They kissed the bitch's ass in '04, and then she (predictably) stabbed them in the back. The Cuckoo Clock ought to go play for GER, where her beloved Career Conman is still a citizen, and their unnanounced wedding took place in December '03.

Too bad Marti didn't play this Fed Cup tie instead of WTT!

What problems does Patty have with the Swiss Fed???
None directly. But she got Manu removed from the actual playing line-up in the (second, I think) tie last year, even the dubs. So Manu quit the team for good, as the news was sprung on her @ the site of the tie, not beforehand.

Then the Peppermint Puzzle herself quit after '04. So today (with Myriam apparently unable to play, and MGM not ready to go, though she'll finally play for SUI) they had only Timea and 2 other Junior or Challenger level players.

no, leo casanova is from the canton of grisons, where the language romansh is being spoken (a latin language), and casanova is a very common name there.
