Was Venus using the French(=) as practice for Wimbledon(=)? During the match against Sesil K., I noticed the high winner/error ratio, I noticed the mediocre display or serving as well; however, I remember thinking, "Venus is moving beautifully. She shouldn't be losing like this." Serena was not there, and Venus played no doubles. Hell, she played her three matches in her off-court practice outfit. . .LOL!

Then @ Wimbledon(=), Venus dons a classy dress, continues the beautiful movement, and then goes on to play a few rounds of mixed d. I'm wondering if Queen Vee was pacing herself all along.

yeah it was strange to see Vee playing in RG wearing shorts, she looked too casual for my liking ;) She just looked like she was in "training" mode for that tournament and couldn't switch out of it. Like you said, once she hit Wimbledon, out comes the dazzling dress and she transforms into the Wimbledon grass queen:eek: Amazing :worship: I don't know how she managed it, you just never know with Venus,I guess that is one of the main reasons why we love her so much - she is just so damn unpredictable! Can be annoying but it makes all those rather unexpected victories all the sweeter ;)

No, I don't think so. Venus would not have gone to Turkey (and won) if that were the case. I just don't think she had enough time to practice and play, she did mention at Wimby that she was suffering form a sore shoulder in April and that was the reason why she could not practice and prepared like she had wanted

No I actually think she was playing to try to get some good results....but she wasn't quite there yet..she was still in that slump.....I do think that she also was using it as a warm up too......I think playing doubles at wimbledon helped her game most of all.

Yeah I mean, obviously a Slam tournament on clay is a great preparation for a grass tournament. :retard: :retard: :retard:

Justine prepared too well :(

No that match just showed how mush Venus sucks on clay.

No I think she was just more motivated for Wimbledon than she was for RG. She did obviously want to win, since she warmed up and won in Istanbul, but she didnt show up on the day agaisnt Sesil.

No, she just wanted to win really bad both, won one and got beaten by a top100 player in the 3rd round of the other :)

I don't think Pureracket meant court type preparations.
He certainly can speak for himself, but If think if I understand well, he means working on general technique, different aspects of the game, specific areas,
managing a match play.
Pureracket can clarify for himself.

As for the question at end, I doubt that Venus took the French purely as a practice session. My take is she lost ealry because she was not prepared enough, Not because she took the tournament as a pratice session.

I think loosing early probably brought home to her that she should step up her preparations for Wimdbledon.

Venus far from sucks on clay. She has won clay court titles at Amelia Island (against the hand in the finals), Charleston, Warsaw, Hamburg and Rome. And made the finals of the French Open. She just hasn't won the "Big One", but she will one day, just wait and see.:wavey:

it reminded me of 2000 when everyone was writing Venus off after RG that year. And then, BAM, her first major.

Why would she? Wimbledon's great and all, but she's proved she can win it twice. Winning Roland Garros would be more important to Venus's career right now. I don't think Venus is one of those people who thinks it's less important than Wimbledon.

Not at all. Venus just has unpredictable results at RG, from 1st rd loss to making the finals. I think she underestimated her opponent and just had one of her worst days on the court. The losses usually help her to regain her focus though, so it is all good. It seem as if the FO is her least favorite of the majors and doesn't seem to be bothered by not winning. I think she should put in a little more effort at the FO and go for the win at least once.

I know this is OT but when addressing 'Williams Fans' why is the Williams Tennis Association forum ignored?

Excellent point.

This thread is pointless. Can a moderator move it to the proper place?

Who cares who he's a fan off. He's right, she lost cause she sucked. You deserve to lose when you hit that many errors in a match. Believe me, a top pro like her wouldn't go to a major just to, "practice." Especially considering the fact that grass is a total different surface, and her moving really isn't as crucial on grass as it is on clay. She wouldn't go to the french open and risk injury just to "get some playing time". What a bad thread. There is no irony in this thread, it's just a dumb observation by a person who doesn't understand tennis/the pro tour.

This thread might be dumb, but you've posted in it twice, so the intellectual level has risen because of your presence. Happy posting.:wavey:
