Apologies if this has been posted before:

Gentlemen's champion, Roger Federer, when asked by interviewers at the Champions' Ball whether he would ever consider hopping around the court like ladies' champion, Venus Williams, did after winning: "I'm not a kangaroo."

Sports and the entertainment industry are the same in many ways and different in many ways. But when my name was called on the big night, I ascended the stage a dignified woman in awe of her own accomplishments and made a simple and non-emotional speech. I think if you're good enough to win an acting Oscar, you should be good enough to hold your emotions in check and not start jumping up and down and acting crazy. I really look down on the showing of emotions. So, I side with Federer here. But I'm not a tennis player, so what do I know.

And no one had waited as long as I had to wait to get that award, too! Four previous losses over 11 years. I should have been jumping up and down into the rafters of the theatre!

That quote is trumped by this one Roger made:

I'm always happy when the Williams sisters win. I support them; I don't know why. They can lose, they can win, and they take it the same way. Maybe it's because tennis is not the biggest focus in their lives. But that they still end up winning Grand Slams is great.

The Internet is the greatest bullshit generator. All you have to do is put a quote out of context and you turn someone into a demon

I don't see anything wrong with what he said. Hell, I don't know too many people who can jump around like that after playing a marathon match as Venus and Lindsay did. I think that maybe the quote is trying to be used to generate something that it shouldn't. I read a previous quote from Roger stating that he supports the Williams. I can totally see him making the "kangaroo" comment with a sly grin and a chuckle.

Roger, Roger...she was jumping around more like a rabbit than a kangaroo. The nerve...

But if we saw Roger doing something like that after he won a final everyone would think he'd lost his mind. Venus doing that is more understandable considering what he had gone through since 2003, and it was just unbridled enthusiasm from her, which is great to see her so happy again. :)

Roger jumped when he won the TMC. It's even covers of Tennis Guide Magazine (or whatever its name).

I think it is a funny quote. He is not insulting Venus at all just joking around.

I don't find this quote to be mean at all. I can totally see him being funny and smiling when he stated this. He likes Venus and Serena.

P.S. I am proof that a tennis match can give you a buzz. You don't need a mixed drink to get a buzz just Venus winning a fifth major in dramatic fashion.

Roger :worship:, the media really likes to bring him down anytime they can.

This guy just intrigues me, he is so talented, works hard, and still manages to find time to enjoy the womens game. First he said he admires Jsutines BH and now compliments the William sisters. Roger dump Mirka and marry me :hearts:

Owwwww... smite him Venus! *Smack* *Thump*
Tell Roger to try it... maybe he'll be lucky enough to win RG someday. Even as a Maria fan I was so happy for Venus when she won... who cares if she jumps to the moon, for heaven's sakes

I like the emotion in players after such a great match. I remember Goran Ivanisevic jumping around after beating Rafter in Wimbly finals, it was nice.

Venus seems not able to handle her emotions, she has been throw a lot of bad times with injuries so it was great to see her take all that bad things out with kagaroo jumps,

Go Vee!!! Jump as much as you like! :bounce:

What sort of a question was that anyway? Its like they were implying theres something wrong with jumping around. Just bc Venus does it doesnt mean anyone else has to, so why bother asking that question? How stupid

Sounds like Roger was speaking for himself, not commenting on Venus.

Well, we would only know if Roger is a kangaroo, when he has had his first career-threatning injury, struggling to beat people he used to wipe the floor with in less than 1 hour. Until then, no need to speculate:tape:

Love your avatar  Hey, mean spirited people are always painstakenly searching for the meanness in others. I'm positive that Roger said that in a joking manner without one iota of meanness. :D I think the poster will have to try harder in order to quell the enthusiasm around here. :bounce: :bounce:

tell me though, which is considered more embarrassing and/or ott, jumping around the court in joyful celebration OR erupting into floods of tears??? sorry Roger, didn;t mean to bring that one up;) At least Vee didn't go down the crying route when she won :)

The point is i shouldn't have to. A conscientious poster would include a link to the source to substantiate the quote. Thanks.
