View Full Version : Most annoying wimbledon commentator (in studio hosts included!)

aheee!!

It's got to be the in-studio Suzy Kolber...does this woman know ANYTHING about tennis at all, or does she just use her annoying voice and plastic personality to read off the teleprompter?

also, though not nearly as annoying, Tim Ryan gets the score wrong at least 10 times when doing a match

Over here in France we've got Anne-Gaelle Sidot who has obviously no brain, her pityful commentary and her stupid laugh have spoiled a couple of weeks of great tennis :(
Actually, she was convinced Henin has already won Wimbledon ...

In general, Sport+ commentators were totally retarded during this Wimbledon, and Anne-Gaelle wasn't a help, that's for sure ...

Brad Gilbert makes stupid comments and predictions when it comes to American players having "easy bake oven" matches and "Betty Crocker" draws. Half the time he's wrong.

I think Luke Jensen is deifnelty the best... someone who they should have commentating full time...

Dick Enberg is even worse about remembering the score. I seriously wonder if DE is so old he's starting to get senile.

I said that a couple of years ago and people yelled at me on this board.

Haven't listed to Dick enberg that much, so I can't say, but Tim Ryan gets the score wrong when it says it on the screen! It'll say 0-30 and he'll say it's 15-30 or 30-30.

I also don't see the need for the commentating "sidekick," the one who was not a former player, such as ted robinson, tim ryan etc... All they do is tell us what the score is and ask obvious questions of the more knowledgable former player commentator.

Even worse are the in-studio people--utterly useless. Suzy Kolber was aksing Pam Shriver about the williams sisters possibly meeting in the quarters before Pam had to tactfully correct her that it would be the 4th round. Give a former player that job too--please!

Well, if it weren't for Ted, there would have been complete silence for large stretches during Venus' last two matches cause Mary wasn't saying anything. (Too busy stuffing crow into her mouth, I suppose.)

Dick is great but, he is making some unforgiving mistakes some times.
I speculate that is why he was not rehired back by NBC and got stuck with the likes of Brad and PMac,
I remember another incident where not he misstate the score, but he kept calling Venus Serena.
I must say, I love his voice when he gets it right and when he does those features segments about the city, the people or historic places.
He is good for set pieces, little unsure about live action
I love how he says "Oh my.."

Dick Enberg is seriously the worst tennis commentator of all. He rarely, if ever, gets the score right.

If not even mistaken, in the second game of the second set of Venus' match vs. Sharapova, everytime the point would be on the Deuce-side of the court, he'd claim Sharapova was on her third or fourth breakpoint or something. I was like, man, it's deuce moron.

I swear, I can't even count how many times he has gotten the score wrong, or said something totally wrong in general.

Stick to football, it's the only thing you're good at. ;)

i didn't like jimmy connors, often times you could tell too clearly who he was supporting, yes i know lots of them are biased but it bugged me. and him with tracy austin was just the worst. Boris was the best, plus his suit was too funny. :)

Isn't she pregnant? If that is the case, then we won't have to put up with it for the US Open.

We don't get Connors.

BTW, Pam is pregnant with twins:) (I thought something about her body looked strange during Wimbledon). She is expected to work through the US Open, unless her doctor advises her against doing so.

really? was it the fact that she could hardly fit in her chair? or that she looked as though she had a pillow hidden up her shirt?

I love Tracy Austin in all her 80's power suit glory! She has the player knowledge, and contact - as well as an aura of tennis authority. Jana and Tracey =

On the downside she is clearly in love with Lindsay Davenport ;)

Chief hate: John Inverdale. BBC anchor for the evening highlights programme.

This guy knows nothing about womens' tennis, but has this sneering attitude to everything to do with it. He trivialises the womens performances, insults the players and clearly prefers talking about the "real competition" for the mens title.

I agree SJW, Austin is, and has been for a couple of years, the BBC's most annoying commentator. Her accent would be enough to drive me insane, add that to all the shit she talks and amount of times she repeats herself throughout a tournament too

I liked Pam this year, for what I saw of her. Sue is just a broadcasting legend now, and I like V. Wade :o John M can have his moments too, Boris is funny, John Lloyd, no opinion really, and Andrew Castle = :retard: Jimmy was great this year, hope he comes back again. :D

Ted Robinson just annoys the shit out of me, ditto Tim Ryan; Brad Gilbert has no respect for women's tennis whatsoever (and he's an a-hole to boot), and Suzy Kolber seriously needs to take a Prozac. Otherwise U.S. tennis commentary is OK :p

Whoever did the Olympics last year for the US with Jim Courier was just awful, he messed up scores, nationalities, player names, you name it. Listening to him during the five set mens singles and doubles finals I almost smashed the TV in! Does anyone know who this bozo is?

Dawn Marie
Jul 7th, 2005, 04:45 AM
Mary Carillo
Pam Shriver
Brad Gilbert

All of them except I like the two old fogeys who forget the scores and names. Ted and Tim. I find that they genuinely treat V@S when they talk through the tennis game the same as their peers. I also like John Mcenroe more so than I dislike him. he does know his tennis. I enjoyed the man who commentated the Williams/Hingis match when Vee came back from 3/5. His way of speaking made the match even more entertaining.

I wish Chris Enberg from the ESPN football show could do women's tennis. :)
