It's JuJu for me...She should have continued to win there after her good run at French Open :( Well...But I know it's kinda tough though to adjust to the 2 different surfaces in just 2 weeks!!! Better luck next year JuJu :)

You shouldn't be too disappointed - I saw that match and Mary was really good that day - big serves and hitting the lines with big groundstrokes. Ana was just outplayed, but I'm sure her time will come.

Hate to admit it - Justine.

Justine Henin-Hardenne - how original.

I think Sveta also disappointed me. She got through some tough matches but I really thought she could have given Lindsay a tougher time. Dementieva continues to disappoint.

yeah, the Belgians of course! And Anna-Lena Groenefeld for not being able to beat a number 2hundredsomething British girl in the first round
That's definetly it...oh, maybe dementieva as she said she worked on her serve but could barely hold it, and NEVER when she served for set or match

Now doubt Justine Henin Hardenne, the media was full of her being the favourite and she was giving interviews left right and centre then she goes and flops bigtime.

Elena disappointed me mostly because she couldn't beat Anastacia and pass the 4th round at Wimbledon for the first time. She had three match points, but Myskina showed her up and kept her number of unforced errors low. And Elena also had a good chance to make it to the semis as well, since she's shown that she can play well against Maurasemo on the big stage. Her 2nd round match was also a disappointment.

I was also disappointed (but not surprised) with Shinobu, Ai and Akiko's first round loss at SW19.

Sam Stosur.
If she had won, we might have seen her play Vaidisova which would have been cool.

Justine - it was a shame that she was knocked out in round one. With no points to defend at all she had a great chance to get back into the Top5 with a good run.

Vaidisova - having a set point in the first set and then winning the second, she should have won the match against Kuznetsova and could have made a run to make it closer to the Top20.

Serena - wasn't really prepared enough - struggled against Haynes and Santangelo and then crashed out to Jill Craybas.

I was gutted that Bepa couldn't go further in the singles! She took the first set so convincingly against Peschke but just couldn't continue in that form unfortunately. :( At least she had a good run in the doubles with Likhovtseva though! :yeah:

Elena Baltacha was a bit of a disappointment as well, although I think the organisers blew her chances by putting her on centre court!

Tati going out in the first round was a big disappointment as well! :o

Ana Ivanovic : for showing up with absolutly no plan against Mary Pierce and playing just shots just like talent is enough to win that kind of match ... I was expecting more from her, especially on grass.

Serena Williams : beaten by Craybas was a shock !

I think that Ana usually play without a gameplan. Like against Petrova in RG and now against Mary. She just walk out on court with one thought, hit hard and keep the points short. I guess it's a question about maturity.

Justine getting knocked out in the first round was a huge blow considering she was coming into Wimbledon as one of the favorites and also a gal of her calibre cannot be replaced.:worship: I then started to root for Kim but she disappointed me as well!

Justine wasn't the only one to play RG, there were atleast 128 players majority of whom still needed to adjust to grass as well, including peirce who mananged a QF.

:tape: same here. Didn't watch it but she just wasn't right that day and didn't have a plan B to counter.

No plan would have helped her in the first set, Mary was just awesome. The only thing Ana could have done is to hold serve, which she failed to do.
The second set was really close, though. Literally a matter of a few points. But in general, Mary was just too good.

For me it was Tati for sure. I expected her to get to the 4th round and lose to Maria but to go it round 1 was an awful result. Especially b/c she has had such good results on grass in her short career.

I have to say Venus for letting sharapova get so many games in the 1st set of her match.. a 6-2,6-1 or 6-3,6-1 trouncing would have been so great.

Indeed :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: I expected her to win at least a set against Vee.Vera Z also disappointed me especially coz she did a great grass season last year (she almost took Eastbourne and lost against Lindsay in the 4th round at Wimbly ) Her tournament in doubles wasn't that bad but Lena/Vera choked against Kuzzie/Momo. :( :( :( They beat Black/Huber, the winners, twice this year , I think they would have had a chance to take the title if they wouldn't have choked in QF

Some people in here say Kim, I find it surprising.

Lindsay was very good when they played, I don't think Kim could have done much better. Kim defended very well in the second set, but I knew it would be almost impossible to maintain that level.

Shinobu Asagoe was a disappointment. Granted she ran into Magdalena again, but I thought she might live up to her seeding this time, but failed to do so again at a slam. Then again, her entire grass season was crap.

justine - first round loss, nuff said. had a set point in the first set, double faulted the match away.

kim - it was lindsay. serve was too predictable, forehand wonky. successful at the net, but rarely went up there. never converted on BP's.

vera z - was leading and as usual, crashed and burned as usual.

lena d - had matchpoints, bad errors on both.

serena - ill-prepared, i'd have felt better if she didn;t compete.

eleni daniilidou - 2 stellar first round matches, and lost tamely to pennetta in the 3rd.

momo - a set and a break up. lost in the tiebreaker, played one loose game in the thrid. she couldn't step it up.

tatiana g - well, ever since charleson, she's been losing early. 4th round last year, 1st round this year.

gisela - she has an adequate serve and a good forhand and great net skills. very disappointing. came in wiht a great grass season defeating petrova en route to the semis at s'hertogenbsoch.

silvia farina elia - no self belief. great grass skills, a former quarterfinalist.still cant beat anyone ranked slightly higher.

tamarine - should have won, but lost.

aheee!!
Jul 6th, 2005, 05:39 PM
Peschke, for not closing out Petrova after having 2 match points

Jankovic, for letting a 5-1 lead slip away to myskina

Pierce, for not coming through in that 20 + point tibreak and probably making for an interesting 3rd set.

Conchita for not taking advantage of a terrific draw to the QF.

I wasn't that bothered about her losing but Justine was disappointing in that she looked unprepared for her match.

Sveta and Kim were disappointing in that they both could have pushed Lindsay further but let's face it Lindsay was just :worship: in this tournament.

Vera ZvonarŰva. I inducted her into my eternal fanship at the beginning of 2005, only to see her go into a slump. She's struggled in hot climates all year, and the day she lost to Kveta Peschke in the second round of Wimbledon (http://www.geocities.com/andrewbroad/tennis/zvona/wimbledon2005.html) was no exception. I was so disappointed not to see her play singles at Wimbledon, especially as I had believed in a mouthwatering quarter-final with Maria Sharapova.

Tatiana Golovin. She went into Wimbledon as the leading candidate for induction into my fanship (I haven't inducted anyone since Vera), but crashed out to Alyona Bondarenko in the first round as her injured ankle failed to hold up. I was so disappointed not to see her play at Wimbledon, especially as I had believed in a mouthwatering fourth round with Maria Sharapova (I was there when they played each other at Birmingham 2004 (http://www.geocities.com/andrewbroad/tennis/shara/birmingham2004.html) and 2005 (http://www.geocities.com/andrewbroad/tennis/shara/birmingham2005.html), but nothing would beat having them on video).

I agree, what a joke she was. Its not often that a WC plays some one in the main draw ranked lower than them. She should have made it to the second round at least. If she had of won, I bet she would have beaten Lena D as well.
