Her body is just about as perfect as a woman's body can get. I don't know what the hell V was thinking when she slipped into that shit.

And the rosie cheeks??? Nope, sorry V.

I think some people shouldn't mistake their fashion likes for that of Venus. Venus lately has also looked like she's been trying fashions from different cultures and I respect and like that.

It would've looked great if the bottom didn't look like it had a drawstring in it.

It looks very nice until you get to her waist, and then it's just a huge mess.

Jul 6th, 2005, 05:16 AM
i'm not much into rating women's fashion but the bottom seem very unusual for a ball. seem like something she'd wear shopping considering she is wearing flat shoes as well.

i couldn't care less though.

Well, I wasn't expecting this look from Venus either, but I can't say that I don't like it. I think that Venus is very bold and innovative with her fashion sense and she hates being trendy. The look is bold and daring with a twist of royal elegance. It's popular belief that she bought this culture transcending get up in Dubai. I like that she tried something new, although it's probably not something that would be worn at a ball in London, it's probably something that is worn to such occassions in another culture.

It is totally a miss and a mess. I'm disappointed. Vee can do better than this. It was horrible.

This is what I expected Vee to look like at the ball.

She is a Gemini and they are known to try different things and change their mind. People shouldn't take it as a personal affront Venus afterall was happy enough to take pride in it and wear it.

I wouldn't go anywhere in that dress, but that's just me. We don't have to fight about it. Or get nasty about it. We have two different opinions about it. I respect yours, so respect mine. It's just a subject to talk about. Don't be so defensive.

BTW, I hated Maria's dress last year too.

FYI, if not for the fabric, it looks like a housedress, hence a dress to go to the grocery store.

There's nothing wrong with changing your looks. But, changing doesn't have to go from great to really bad.

It wasn't a fashion show, but I just want her to always look her best off the tennis court, and if I hadn't seen it before, I wouldn't expect it. That's my only beef. I was disappointed. But if she's happy with it, I'm overjoyed.

I'm not a huge fan of the dress myself and we all know that Venus can dress a whole lot better, but I think she was just trying out a new culture and I admire her guts, lol. She's still Wimby champ so I really don't care that she blew this one.

sorry- i loved it!! You don't have to of course but some people should expand their fashion sensibilities from what is 'mainstream' or 'traditional'. It actually is what is fashionable at the moment- the 'bohemian' look.
:worship: :worship: I liked the dress and thought she was one of the best dressed women there.

OMG, she absolutely failed!! I am so sad!!

Normally Venus is very good in costume selection! (unlike Serena).

Maybe she didn't expect to come this far??? No time to choose? She didn't bring the dress along? Look at her shoes!! Eww...pretty gross (together with that dress)!!

No she looks fantastic. But now I know why she didn't wear heels. She and Federer are the same height. So when they danced, I'm sure she didn't want to seem taller than him.

I love Venus.. nothing personal against her but the dress is just awful.. it's like what someone said from the waist up it looks okay but go below the waist and it's a fashion mess. It more looks like she's going shopping for fruits than to a ball.

harloo

Considering that their was already a thread about this before and people criticized the dress, let's just say that the sisters keeps everyone talking about their fashions. Venus has a sense of style that is a bit wacky at times but mostly conservative . Sometimes she does the weird earrings and accessories, other times she's dressed to perfection.

During Wimbledon she did not have the accessories on during her matches, she was dead serious about winning the title. So if she takes a few jabs about her attire then so be it, the most important thing is that she won her first slam in years. Personally I don't feel the dress is all that bad, not great but it's not a big issue.:D ;)

It is by no means a fashion disaster. It is also not her best gown either.:) Venus was expected to wear a flashy ballgown but was not expected to hold the trophy. Hmm I think I'll be content and take the latter.

I like the look of a Black Greek Goddess. She went from Wimby white's to Black Goddess overnight and her shoes are simplistic and go with this trendy look. Roger and her will be the same dance height.

Veenut

Like many stated this is not her best dress but I think she will be better prepared after she defends next year!!!

Jul 6th, 2005, 05:22 PM
Its a little too afro-centric to me for a wimbledon ball...dont get it twisted ...cuz nothing is wrong with afro-centric dresses...but if you think of a wimbledon ball, gowns and high heel shoes come to mind...not sandles lol....but anyway...she is the Champion....the dress isn't making her look good..she makes the dress look good. ;)

Made me think. So everyone thinks Venus looks lovely when dolled up like a Hollywood tartlet. But when her outfit has a touch of African ethnicity about it they don't like it....I thought Venus looked :) so natural and serene in her new dress, compared to the false forced designer garb in these pictures. The point is Venus, against all expectations, won Wimbly. Her natural look is one of youthful renewed confidence hinting at her roots. Good luck to her. And stop judging beauty by false magazine standards.

 Lord...first of all that dress is not African. If anything it's middle eastern. Tastes in clothes are subjective, and even if it was an African attire, that had nothing to do with whether I liked the dress or not. Venus is always going to be black and beautiful, and that has nothing to do with the clothes she wears on her back.
