I know you've had this question a lot but there is so much mystery surrounding Monica Seles. There are rumors about a ceremony at the U.S. Open, and she even got a sculpture at the Canadian Open. Does not sound much like a comeback, does it? What do you know about an eventual return or goodbye ceremony? ( I'm asking this for every loyal and passionate Seles fan out there -- LOL.)

I have no scoop here. I've heard the same rumors. Also heard that as long as her endorsement contracts are still valid and she can make a few select appearances, there is no financial reason for her to retire. Who knows? Seems to me that if any player has earned the right to go out on her own terms and timetable, it's Seles.

I have not heard these "rumors" at all. I know about the ceremony at the Canadian, but not at the US Open. If this is indeed true, I will be crying my eyes out at the US Open ceremony.

Whatever happens, she will get a ceremony when she DOES decide to call it quits once and for all, and it will be so well-deserved, and after all she's been through and all her triumphs, it would be hard for anyone to see her go

Tennis is so much kinder than Hollywood. I am one of Oscar's most distinguished leading ladies and the Academy doesn't do shit for me at any of the ceremonies! Maybe I should have played pro tennis instead of becoming a movie star.

There's still time Helen - look at Martina N.

I'd have to give up smoking, drinking, and prescription drugs to get into Martina's shape, and that's a lot to ask. In the words of many tennis critics, I just don't want it bad enough.

Monica deserves une ceremonie! Monica et moi may have had une decade of silence et insults (mainly from moi) but le mutuelle respect is there - us Wimbledon finalistes respect each other et I welcome Lindsay to le club.

Monica fans can I say this? - Picture It. Wimbledon. 1992. A young, fiery, titian haired serve et volleying French goddess is mesmerising les crowds dans Wimbledon. She plays Monica Seles et in une momente of weakness et bitchiness complains about les grunting of Monica. Monica wins. In le next round Seles plays Navratilova (spit) who also complains of le grunting. 12 years later people still talk of moi complaining, but Martina is still Saint Martina :fiery: :fiery: I am not bitter - just furiouse!

I haven't heard anything, but when or if it happens it will be a bit of a shock. I mean we are hoping that she will return to the tour. I won't be shocked that she is retiring but that it is actually gonna happen, it will be a reality check. Monica was the first personality that got me into tennis. 1997 or 1998 Roland Garros. I changed the channel, watched her story about her father and followed her through the matches where she beat a then unknown Hingis( at least I didn't know her) . From there on I fell in love with tennis. I wanted her to beat ASV but she lost. Then when grass started I was so into tennis and REALLY liked Venus's personality and remembered Vee from that old 60 minutes segment when they were kids. Which I just happened to see years prior. Go V!

Anyway, goooooooooo Monica either come back 100% or retire like a champ.

aheee!!

Monica has done nothing in women's tennis.. She's just one of the best players ever.. LOL

That us open ceremony is just a rumor...it's all up in the air--I doubt monica knows herself, but if she comes back, i doubt it will be this year

She won 8 slams before she was stabbed in her early twenties. She had a 3-1 advantage over Graf in Slam finals, with Graf being the older more experienced player. She has 9 slams in all and was ranked #1 three times before she was stabbed as the #1 player. She was also one of the finest sportswomen on the tour, who also changed the way the women^s game was played. The day Seles was stabbed was a lucky day for Graf, as Monica was the only player of her calibre, physically and mentally,on the tour at that time. It was a very sad day for Women^s tennis history.

I didn't realise Amelie played Wimbledon in 1992 .

She clearly doesn't get nearly enough credit for being a child prodigy :worship:.
