OMG Hingis against Jen... At least she self destructed against Jen, who is someone Martina respects, and not some other biatch.

But look at my avatar... that was one of the most emotional wins for Marti!!! She looked so happy and there are a lot of great pics from that match (like when she was staring Serena down :rolls:), you could tell she just wanted it more! And I remember she was ecstatic when she beat Seles at the YEC 2000... if anyone can find pictures of that, it would be great :drools:

as sad for Martina as I was back in AO 2001, Jen's reaction after that return winner sent chills down my spine. Venus this year 2005 Wimbledon came close to that...these are two of the best grand slam winning moments in the open era.

Yes, she had to withdraw from her quarter-finals' match against Fabiola Zuluaga due to a back injury (that kept her out for two months). Really tough moments for Amélie.

Right, so only twice in her career was Serena able to grind out a match against Martina... and the one was in Scottsdale when Hingis was bothered by a sore ankle and on painkillers... the other one was...?

Kind of funny when you consider which one of these players is supposed to be the "fighter" and which one "tanks"...

And beating Serena six times, including in the most dramatic match of the series, is nothing to scoff at :hearts:

Nope, Hingis was in top-form and made Venus look like a damn FOOL, the most lopsided Hingis/Williams match of all-time :hearts:

Hingis also had a series of drop shot/lob combinations that left her taller opponent flustered. Good stuff!

i wanted martina to win, but you just had to love steffi's reaction, she acted like a little kid w/ class on this day, although venus' letting loose her emotions was nice to see for the first time in years, i thought she went overboard as she can at times, steffi showed jubilation in styleok, normally i just ignore stupid posts, but i cant. this is so dumb it needs to be commented upon. venus went overboard???have u any idea what she was going through? injury plagued 2 years. then there was that god-awful slump. when a player of venus' calibre goes through such a slump it really injures their pride. everyone had written her off. throughout wimby she was steely faced rarely fist pumping. keeping it all in. dont you think that reaction is completely justified? how is that going overboard? and how the fuck are we supposed to judge whether or "showing jubilation" can be done in style? (unless of course the opponent in obviously injured and cant serve for fucks and the winner acts as if she just won the golden grand slam against someone who was playing her best)

I surprised nobody has posted any of Myskina's calm, rational discussions with Jens, instead of pictures of her looking sad.

I used to have a link to Dementieva's breakdown at RG last year, but I accidently lost it on purpose. It was very emotional. It just sucked, that's all.

May have been the most dramatic, but in terms of importance I think Serena's drubbing of Martina at the '99 USO takes the cake.

Serena had arrived :)

The match you're talking about, the 2000 Canadian Open final, Hingis was leading 0-6, 6-3, 3-0. And it wasn't her fault Williams retired with an injury.

I love this thread!!

So many great pics: I love to see Venus after her Wimbledon 2005 win, Dokic (Oh, I miss her!) and all the other great pics!!

My favourite pic is Maria S. from Hong Kong 2005. I like that pic, because Maria looks so hot, and because the pic is emotional too:

Don't forget that also one of Martina's wins against Serena was a
0-6 6-3 3-0 beating before serena retired with injury.
That first set showed all martina could do when Serena plays very well.
And I think serena's and Martina's most important match was 1999 US open final where Serena was a straight set winner despite 30 more unforced errors, she just had 30 more winners.
And who had a tougher road to the final

Williams' road to the Final

1 Kimberly Po W 6-1, 6-0
2 Jelena Kostanic W 6-4, 6-2
3 Kim Clijsters W 4-6, 6-2, 7-5
4 Conchita Martinez W 4-6, 6-2, 6-2
QF Monica Seles W 4-6, 6-3, 6-2
SF Lindsay Davenport W 6-4, 1-6, 6-4

Hingis' Road

1 Kveta Hrdlickova W 6-1, 7-5
2 Sarah Pitkowski W 6-1, 6-1
3 Sandra Kloesel W 6-3, 6-1
4 Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario W 6-3, 7-5
QF Anke Huber W 6-2, 6-0
SF Venus Williams W 6-1, 4-6, 6-3

And Serena wasn't tired
It was just Venus' loss which kept Serena strong

That's one thing about Lindsay she's not too emotional on the court no even when she won a grand slam or made a final but The first one at Wimbledon 99 it was just prue joy and disbeilf all at the same time and the second one just shows how much she dislikes when she plays bad (which isn't that often).
