This year demonstrates how wide is the space for our Jen: she is competitive in a tour where Mary Pearce returns, Venus wins, Lindsay is still #1 and so on.
By the way, Jen can do much more show than many other players.
I think that if she wants, she'll remain many more years in the tour.

Jen, we're waiting for you!!!
Stop tennis without Jen!!!!

Will she play again? Yes. But will her results be like those of a top 10 player? No.

GRRR For God's sake, people dont listen around here! There is no question about whether she is coming back, if you listenened to one of Jen's interviews you would know that she's not ready to give her dreams up! It has been mentioned sooo many times that Jen is coming back for the US Open and people still don't seem 2 get the message!
Right I'm done for now.

She was playing like a top ten player (albeit at the end of that spectrum) before she got injured, so I don't see why you can be so sure that will change. She's handling this injury well by taking time for one last big push toward another slam.

I hope not, but think she is. Even if she does come back I doubt she will ever be in the top 5 again. I do hope I am wrong.

One could argue that she was or wasn't playing like a top 10 player when she left. She lost 6-0 6-1 to Zvonareva, apparently before she was severly effected by the injury. She had a string of ugly losses over the summer to Serena, Likhovtseva and Dechy - all in straight sets. And she only reached one final last year, the least of anyone in the top ten.

Give Jenny a break. She's just having a much earned rest doing a little shoplifting in Florida. She will be back on the court in those nice new (and FREE) outfits!!!

But that's just Jen. She's always had bizarre, ugly losses during her career. She's inconsistent, except at the slams, where she consistently reaches the quarters or semis. And remember, she was injured and missed a lot of the early 2004 season. She was improving throughout the season.

Petrova has made only one final in the past two years, and she's top 10....if Capriati is in decent form, she'll pass Petrova. Capriati's results last year show she's a top 10 player...you can't make the semis at Doha, Rome, RG, the US Open, and the finals at Berlin and not be considered worthy of the top 10.

Jen will continue the streak to 7 of the different slam winners in the past 2 years! Jen has made it very evident herself that she is not done yet.

Jen WAS injured in the loss to Vera. That's likely where she injured herself (she had icepacks on her shoulder at the press conference supposedly).

I hate when people write a tennis player off when it is entirely up to that player when he or she retires. A lot of people seem to get a thrill in saying "so-and-so" is done (they even said it about Pete!).

Lindsay had that big knee injury and came back. Mary's been injured so much and made a Slam final when people thought she was washed up. Jen has a few good years left!!!

I think Jenny is one of the most gifted tennis players in the whole history of female tennis, but her only weakness is that she not a hard worker, if she focus deeply in her tennis she will beat any tennis player out there.

Damn, it´s J-Cap...she WILL NEVER be finished;)

How often people have already buried her and she came back? I am really looking forward for her comeback. She´s a special person on the tour.

How many times have people said Jen is done, not as a prediction, but as a fact? From 1993-1998, people said Jen was a washed up has been who would never win a tier 10000 tournament! That's probably the worst prediction since Hollywood gurus expected Star Wars to flop harder than a Jabba the Hutt bellyflop and 20th Century Fox execs just hoped the film would earn more than $10 million! Heck, the film opened in 32 theatres!!!!!!!!!!!!! Five Star Wars films and billions of dollars later, that has to be the worst prediction ever!!!!!!!!!

A positive is that Jenn is looking after herself by taking the lengthy break and not rushing back. It seems she is willing to persevere. She'll have to, because coming back will not be easy.

A negative is that she has been out for 8 months. That's a long time to come back from. Lindsay, Serena and Venus have all struggled coming back from lengthy breaks such as this, more with their own form and confidence than with the new players who emerged while they were gone.

Another positive is that the old guard, all her rivals from her glory days - Lindsay, Venus, Serena, Mary have filled 5 of the 6 GS finals spots - are really dominating this year. If they can still be right at the top of the sport, then I don't see any reason why she won't be competitive again, provided she returns to somewhere near the form she showed during the clay season last year and in the three GS she played.

Please get your "facts" straight before you post your shit okay.

Jen started to feel the effects of her shoulder injury after the USO last year and was interviewed DURING the Philly tournament and during that interview stated she had a shoulder injury--- and Vera played, from all match reports, the match of her life....

While she was only in one final last year out of the 12 tourneys she played... she reached the QF/SF of every tournament she entered except for 3 and was in 2 slam SFs and 1 slam QF (the other slam she did not play).

aheee!!

She'll be back...but she will be hard pressed to consistently beat the likes of davenport, justine kim venus, maria etc... But she can certainly be top 10 again. tHe tour could another player with fire and determination. I think if she comes back this year, she won't have decent results until next year
