Because last week FED CUP (no WTA tournaments) instead new (12 CATEGORY!) lists - i give you some interesting stats about win/lose record (career & for 2003,2004,2005), and 3-set record (2003,2004,2005).
I don't know if somebody has already analysed that stats but you'll see!!
It's very interesting because some year of birth seems to produce better players.
Ok course the majority of the current player was born in the eighties.
But I notice, for instance that the year 1975 is still having very strong player in comparison with 1976, 1977 who shoud be better because younger!
The years 1978 and 1988 excepting one player each are very weak!!! Is that a maediction?
Very good year! It was so close to have 3 players still in the Top 50. It's interesting to see how Sylvia is still at the top. We're used to read more about Conchita's longevity but Sylvia is the best to be born in 1972 even if she's not the same carreer as Conchita.
Sylvia is a late revelation on the tour reaching her best ranking (n°11) at the age of 30 years and 2 months.
Conchita: n°2 at the age of 23 years and 6 months.
Amy: n°13 at the age of 24 years and 4 months.
1973
1rst: Lisa Raymond (51)
2nd: Nicole Pratt (104)
3rd: Virginia Ruano Pascual (116)
First suprising fact: 1973 is weaker than 1972! Only one player still in the Top 100.
Carreer High:
Lisa Raymond: n°15 at 24 years and 2 months old.
Nicole Pratt: n°35 at 29 years and 3 months old.
Virginia Ruano Pascual: n° 28 at 25 years and 6 months old.
A bit the same as 1974, but 2 players are still in the Top 100.
Carreer High:
Jill Craybas: n°51 (28 years and 6 months old)
Maria Vento Kabchi: n°26 (30 years and 2 months old)
Jannette Husarova: n° 31 (28 years and 7 months old)
Interesting to notice that those 3 players reached their high rankings lately and non of them broke the top 20!
1975:
1rst: Mary Pierce (13)
2nd: Elena Likhovtseva (16)
3rd: Ai Sugiyama (32)
Very good year! They're all 30 now and still at the top with 2 girls in the Top 20!
Mary Pierce: a prestigious carreer with 2 victories in Grand Slam and 3 times runner-up (even this year at Roland Garros at the age of 30 and a half). Well of course she has an up side down carreer, because she's to be fit and confident to play her powerfull game. she reached her berst ranking n°3 at the age of 20.
Elena Likhovtseva: not at championbut a vrey good player who reached her best for the 1rst time (n°°15) at the age of 24.
Ai Sugiyama: the 2nd best japanese player after Kimiko Date. She reached the n°8 position at the age of 29.
1976:
1rst: Lindsay Davenport (1)
2nd: Shinobu Asagoe (25)
3rd: Anna Smashnova (53)
Even if most of the player were born in the eighties, the current number one is born in 1976!And what a player with 3 grand slam tittles and 4 times Runner up (2 times this year!). She reached the n°1 place for the 1rst time at the age of 22.
Shinobu Asagoe: she's been playing good tennis quite lately and reached her best ranking (n°21) this year at the age of 28.
Anna Smashnova: she's been winning her 10th tittle last week in Modena!!Her carreer high: n°15 at 26 y.o
1977:
1rst: Dally Radriantefy (49)
2nd: Kristina Brandi (67)
3rd: Tathiana Garbin (77)
Pretty weak year with only one player in the top 50
None of them had a real impressive carreer, they could be considered as average pro player. Special cheering for Dally who'snt coming from an "easy country" to learn tennis.
Carreer High:
Dally Radriantefy: n°44 at 24 years old
Kristina Brandi: n°27 at 23 years old
Tathiana Garbin: n°38 at 23 y.o
1978:
1rst: Patty Schnyder (12)
2nd: Lilia Osterloh (111)
3rd: Hana Sromova (130)
Patty and anyone else could be the tittle for 1978!! I don't know what to think. It's not a question of age, because the girls who were born in 1978 are 26 y.o this year so not too old...
Patty saves the honour with a very smart carreer:
Carreer High:
Patty Schnyder: n°8 at 20 y.o.
Lilia Osterloh: n°41 at 23 y.o
Hana Sromova: n°129 at 27 y.o...last week
1979:
1rst: Amelie Mauresmo (3)
2nd: Nathalie Dechy (18)
3rd: Fabiola Zuluaga (44)
Is it the "french year" with Amelie and Nathalie at the 1rst places.
Amelie is definitely a great champion but she has to win a Grand Slam Tournement (a real incomprehensible weakness). She's been winning 17 tittles in her carreer and she reached the 1rst place of the world ranking at the age of 25.
Nathlie Dechy: For the 1rst time this year, she reached the semi final of a Grand Slam Tournement and her best ranking n°13 at the age of 25.
Fabiola Zuluaga: She's regressing this year after very good performance in 2004 (semi finalist in Roland Garros) and reached her highest ranking (n°16) at the age of 26.
1980:
1rst: Venus Williams (8)
2nd: Francesca Schiavone (23)
3rd: Nuria Llagostera Vives (44)
Here are the eighties...but 1980 isn't a real good one ....execped for Venus Williams: 5 times winner in Grand Slam and 5 times-Runner up. A great champion for sure who reached the 1rst place in the ranking at the age of 21 y.o.
Francesca Schiavone: best ranking (n°15) at the age of 23.
Nuria Llagostera Vives: she's playing her best year, winning her first tittle and reachong her best ranking (n°35) at the age of 25.
1981:
1rst: Elena Dementieva (5)
2nd: Serena Williams (6)
3rd: Anastasia Myskina (10)
They're all in the top 10 and it's the only year year to get that stat!
Elena Dementieva: If only she could have a good serve...her carreer would be amazing for sure because she has one of the best groundstrokes. She's been 2 times Runner up in Grand Slam and she's reached her best ranking n°4 at the age of 22.
Serena Williams: the little sister is even better than her elder!!She's been winning 7 Grand Slams and was dominating the tennis in 2002-2003 (winning the 4 Grand Slam in a row from Roland Garros 2002 to the Australian Open 2003)! She's been n°1 in the world at the age of 20.
Anastasia Myskina: She has won one Grand Slam (Roland Garros) in 2004...she was maybe the 1rst to be surprised to win it. Before starting to play this Grand Slam, she said in an interview that she was there to win some matches...she did more than that and even saved a match point during the tournement! Her best ranking was n°2 at the age of 23.
1982:
1rst: Justine Henin Hardenne (7)
2nd: Nadia Petrova (9)
3rd: Flavia Pennetta (24)
Justine Henin Hardenne: 4 times winner in Grand Slam. N°1 in the world at the age of 21. She's been suffering for a virus for more than one year. She definitely has one of the most remarquable technique in the world.
Nadia Petrova: She's very talented player...but she still hasn't won a tittle in her carreer. It's really surprising because she's the game. Her best ranking was n°6 at 21 y.o
Flavia Pennetta: she's at her best ranking this week and reached that position at the beginning ok july...normally she could continue to rise in the ranking in the next months.
1983:
1rst: Kim Klijters (14)
2nd: Elena Bovina (17)
3rd: Daniela Hantuchova (26)
Kim Klijters: Another mystery: she's won 24 tittles in her carreer, reached the 1rst place in the world at the age of 20, she's been 5 times Runner up in Grand Slam....but she never won one. She was seriously injured last year and came back in Spring with very impressive results (2 victories in a row in Miami and Indian Wells). Every one was expecting better results in Grand Slam (especially in Roland Garros where she felt to Lindsay Davenport).
Elena Bovina: Very good and tall player...but maybe, she's having a too stereotype game to reach the top 10. Her best ranking was n°15 at 22 y.o
Daniela Hantuchova: 3 years ago, she was one of the best new talent on the tour. At the age of 20, she reached her best ranking n°5. After that she lost confidence and she suffered from food troubles. Now she's having up side down results.
1984:
1rst: Vera Zvonareva (15)
2nd: Marion Bartoli (30)
3rd: Samantha Stosur (52)
Vera Zvonareva: she reached her best ranking n°9 at 19 y.o. She's a bit regressing this year...she should better work on the psycho because shes very oftently crying during her match as soon as she's not leading.
Marion Bartoli: the best current double handed both sides player. She plays like that because she was admiring Monica Seles when she was a kid! Her high ranking was n°27 at 21 y.o.
Samantha Stosur: She's surely talented considering the 2 finals that she played in a row during the australian campaign. She reached her best ranking n°44 at 22 Y.o
1985:
1rst: Svetlana Kuznetsova (4)
2nd: Jelena Jankovic (19)
3rd: Gisela Dulko (29)
Svetlana Kuznetsova reveals her ry powerfull and athletics game last year winning the US Open as outsider. She reached her best ranking n°4 at 19 y.o. She's one of the strong element of the Russian Armada.
Jelena Jankovic: She's really talented even if sometimes people are critisizing a too much sterotype game. She's reached her best ranking this spring (n°19) at the age of 20.
Gisela Dulko: Argentina is still waiting for the next "Gabriela Sabatini". I'm not sure tha Gisela has enough skill to reach the top 10. However, she's realizing a good year and reached her best ranking n°29 i njune this year at 20 y.o
1986:
1rst: Dinara Safina (27)
2nd: Vera Douchevina (31)
3rd: Evgenia Linetskaya (36)
That's the beginning of the "teen generartion"!
Dinara Safina is of course more reknown as the Marat Safin's sister. She was an early good player reaching the top 30 in april 2004...Since that date, she's having up and down results...and her ranking is quite steady. She reached her high ranking n°26 at the age of 19.
Vera Douchevina: she made noise this year reaching the final in Eastbourne. She reached her best ranking last week n°31 at 18 y.o
Evgenia Linetskaya: She was pretty unknown last year, and she starts to have really good results this year (2 times semi finalists on the WTA tour and decent results in Grand Slam). She reached her best ranking n°35 at the beginning of july.
1987:
1rst: Maria Sharapova (2)
2nd: Ana Ivanovic (20)
3rd: Anna Chakvetadze (34)
Maria Sharapova: she has almost evreything the beauty of a movie star, an incredible talent and big motivation in tennis. She's been winning last year Wimbledon at 17 y.o! She reached her best ranking n°2 just bfore her 18 y.o birthday. Several times in pring, she was close to reach the 1rst position ....but she didn't get it yet.
Ana Ivanovic: At the end of 2004, she was just n°97 in the world. Since the beginning of the year, she's playing awesome tennis (winning a title as qualifer, beating Top Ten players like Nadia Petrova, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Amelie Mauresmo). She's definetely one of the girls to follow now.
Anna Chakvetadze: one other new name on the tour, quaterfinalist 2 times on the WTA tour this week. She reached her best ranking n°34 at the age of 18 y.o
1988
1rst: Tatiana Golovin (23)
2nd: Viktoriya Kutusova (155)
3rd: ???? Erakovic (237)
Tatiana Golovin and anyone else...
Tatiana Golovin: She reached her best ranking n°18 at 18 y.o. She's using all of her assets on the tour to make people talking about her (strong groundstrokes and sexy look...sometimes she reminds me Anna Kournikova....I hope she won't stop playing tennis as early as Anna did.
Viktoriya Kutusova: She could easely be ranked higher than she is if she was playing more. She's been waiting this year to start to play frequently and she's got pretty good results (4th round in Indian Wells and 3rd round in Charleston). She reached her best ranking n°153 at 16 y.o.
Marina Erakovic: nothing to say, she's still to proove everything
1989:
1rst: Nicole Vaidisova (28)
2nd: Sesil Karatancheva (47)
3rd: Michaella Krajicek (88)
Very good year for tennis with may be 3 of the most promising players of the future. They're 16 and even 15 for Sesil and already in the top 100. Nicole has already broke the top 30, and Sesil the top 50!

Sorry, I forget remark that in MOST IMPRESSIVE SEASONS (85%+ wins) IN WTA TENNIS i throw out all women's tennis stars of '70,'60,'50...etc (like Court, King, Goolagong, ... , Tracy Austin, ...) and i throw out all season when playars dont play more than 40 matches (except this 2005 half-season), and that is reason why i purposeley miss Seles '93 and '95 very good (in percentage) "injury" seasons. In my results Base Seles in '96 have 48:8 (less than 85%), not 58:8 record...

This thread is good place for archives for "STATISTIC" posts like this.
This my analisys include only todey WTA TOP100 players, and only "MAIN-DRAW" WTA tour matches (no qual. or Fed-cup). In GAME and SET stats i ignore retired matches.

I asked this somewhere else some time ago, but noone answered, maybe this is the right place to find one who knows:
I got a question concerning the points in the ranking:
http://www.wtatour.com/rankings/porsche/singles.asp
This one is the Porsche Ranking with only points gained in 2005. Ana Ivanovic is listed 14 there with 1139 points.
http://www.wtatour.com/players/playerprofiles/PlayerActivity.asp?PlayerID=311710
Here's her activity, but the result of all the points listed there is only 1122.
Can someone tell me, why it's not the same? All the girls who are better in the ranking than her have the same amount as in their profiles  .
But Douchevina, Peng, Karatantcheva and Chakvetadze show also differences, I can't see why.

2 Deck (rating problem)
I realy dont know reason why www.wtatour.com (wta official site) create this unnecessary confusion...
They obviously dont register quality points of players in hers qualify matces - so, reason why only Ana in TOP20 have this strange deficit (17pts) is because only she of TOP20 play qualify matches this year (8 qua. wins).
Douchevina, Peng, Karatantcheva and Chakvetadze (and all players who play this year qualifications) situation is similar.

That's really strange, because when they fail in qualification, the points are listed, obviously not, when they get in the main draw  .
Thanks.
