Venus, Grand Slam Champions shouldn't play Tier IVs darling

i dont think she'll play. but if she does, it will be good.
apparently tennis interest in Sweden is diminishing.

Myskina AND Venus at a tier 4:retard: ?

Alicia Molik won it last year, so despite it's Tier status it's a pretty popular stop on the tour. :)

Well Venus was entered well before she became the Wimbledon champion, so she was probably just using this as a confidence builder. Anyway, I doubt she'll pull out because she's been excited about going to this tournament in some of her interviews

Venus doesnt care if its a tier IV

The main reason shes playing those places its because she wants to bring her tennis to places she has never been before, so HER FANS can enjoy her more!

Yes, she wants to travel to new places, she's said that. The confidence thing I guess was also a factor but... woops... I guess she's taken care of that already !!!!

Good luck Venus!! although she probably won't need it. Myskina is her toughest opponent, and she is totally out of form. This tournament will be a walk in the park! :bounce:

Q. I heard you're going to the Nordic Lights Open. Is that true?

VENUS WILLIAMS: Yes.

Q. How come you chose to attend that competition?

VENUS WILLIAMS: Because I had the opportunity, so I went. I'm going.

Q. It isn't that really big.

VENUS WILLIAMS: I'm very excited. I've never been. For every year since I've been playing, my schedule has been the same every summer. So I'm glad to flip the script.

Q. Have you been to Stockholm before?

VENUS WILLIAMS: No.

Q. What do you expect?

VENUS WILLIAMS: Good time and some wins.

Yes please!!

I want to hear how Venus is doing!

I think she can win this event, and i think she is really looking forward to it. She wants to visit new cultures, and even though it is only a tier 4 she really doenst care...

...remeber, after US OPen she is playing a lot of tier 2's and 1's, so playing this 4 now wont really make a difference.

After US Open, she i splaying Bejing (2) Filderstadt (2) Moscow(1) Zurich (1) and Philly (2)

The original plan for this tournament was to held it in Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway alternate every year, and that at least one player from each country should get a WC into the qualy or MD. Now that the Swedish has taken the tournament as their own (suprise:o ) I hope there will still be a chance for players from other Nordic countries to get a smell of The Big Girls Competition:cool:

They would have played it in Helsinki this year but because Helsinki is hosting the World Championships in Athletics during the same week it was decided to be played in Stockholm again.
Even if it's a Tier IV tournament many players like to make a stop there at least once during their careers.

Venus went to Istanbul because of the culture, I think it is the same reason in Stockholm. I think she wants to go to one of the Asian tournaments in the autmun, too (Taschkent probably??).

Don't be sad. Stockholm is not that far away from Tampere. I'm sure there are some good ferry-hotel package deals to get or perhaps some nice Swedish tennis fan is willing to accomodate you for a couple of days?

Yes indeed. I think it's so nice of her to do this. I really hope she enjoys her stay in Stockholm because it's a beautiful city especially during the summer.

There is no such big stars as Venus in the World championship of Athletics ;)

If I had been having the type of season Venus was having pre-Wimbledon, I'd also continue to play smaller tournaments. I guess the victory in Turkey helped.

I agree with the WHOOP comment, but I'm sure Venus will keep her commitment. Plus, this is a great opportunity for Venus to expand her fan base even more.

Good luck in Scandanavia, Vee! :bounce:

Venus most likely won't win because stokholm isn't kind to #1 seeds: the past 3 years the #1 seed has not made it past the 2nd round
