YES, because Lindsay and the Williams fans have always gotten along ---you just haven't been around long enough to realize it :o

I don't know, I like Lindsay a lot, but of course I would've been very disappointed for venus after all that hard work. But I would have gongratulated Lindsay and would have been happy for her ;)
When Lindsay's playing any one else I'm very Sad when she loses and I hope she does really well the rest of the season

If you read many posts by fans of Venus (and Serena) that praised Lindsay, a lot of them talked about the level of play, intensity during the match. Both players were applauded for their efforts and to this date I haven't seen one that attacked either Venus or Lindsay's play unless it was someone trying to discredit both or someone upset their favorite wasn't in the final. A lot more admiration came after the match and that was based on reactions of both players but also a sense of loss for Lindsay. That wasn't false and I have a hard time thinking that sentiment would have been turned into something negative if the opposite result had occured. When it's a good match and either player could have won you're hard pressed to be a negative person and I would like to think that the reactions would be the same by Lindsay fans if Venus had lost too.

I've never understood why it's okay to be mean and offensive instead of exhibiting respect and admiration.

I think she's getting praise from everyone including Venus fans because of the way in which she lost the match. Neither Lindsay or Venus deserved to lose that match and although they're ecstatic for Venus I think everybody is gutted for Lindsay at the same time.

i wasnt so gutted when she lost the AO - cos she got trampled over in the end and didnt fight.

Here she fought to the bitter end and it could have gone either way at any time. its a shame they had to stop when lindsay did her back in :(

Always trying to start trouble.

the answer is yes.

when she lost to Serena and no Williams fans (and definitely no Williams Haters  ) praised her because of the way she lost.

this time in losing to Venus, Lindsay played like a champion; so there only reason she's getting praise is because she deserves it.

I believe most people who have heaped praise on her said she deserved to win...instead of attacking Williams fans you should give us credit.

When we see real class (a rare event), we praise it. :p

No, it's just that some people are so young and full of hate that they'll try to discredit certain tennis players and their fans in any way they can, no matter how irrational it may seem.

Not really Devilishattitude.
Of course now that Venus won, Lindsay is the best player of 2004, they need to make Lindsay look better in order for her win to look bigger :p As it would need that :p But no way winning a grand slam is the ultimate achievement :worship:
Forgetting that Sharapova won a slam and the masters

They were all saying how much Venus was going to straight set Davenport after she beat Sharapova before the final, and they got a big scare, as i said on a post it was up to both players because Lindsay could have won, and she showed.
It will be very interesting to see how Venus fares against Henin-Hardene, pretty much against the top ten, which she struggled a lot for two years, now this year finally she is in there again and beaten 3 of them (if im not mistaken).
Too bad for Davenport, i think she wonīt be able to overcome this, she was serving for the match in the second set, was ahead 4-2 40-15 in the third, match point at 5-4, 15-30 games at 5-6 and 6-7 with Venusīs serving, its tough, those losses can stay in your head pretty much, and Davenport who is in her late/ending of her carreer, this can be definetly her last grand slam final.
Remmember that Henin/Kim are coming back strong, Venus is back again, so it will be tougher than probably in 4 of last 5 grand slams where Lindsay has been on a great position to win and has let each of them slip away.

No doubt about it, no doubt .... about.... IT.

Lindsay deserves to be praised simply for being a wonderful human being. She truly is an amazing woman. Only for that I love her. Yes I was happy for Venus, but I was extremely hard broken for Lindsay. She deserved the win just as much and I would have been just as happy for her as I was for Venus. I love both ladies.

:)I must say, SjuTjuD, you are an EXCELLENT addition to this message board. :wavey: You just make so much sense, and I am enjoying your posts immensely.

Topic-wise:
As far as I can remember (including way back when I was with two other massage boards), Venus and Lindsay fans have ALWAYS respected each other. The only beef that I can recall is when Richard Williams and Lindsay had it out. But even then, (especially after Richard made apologies to Lindsay), both fan bases were respectful.

I think because Haters spend most of their time hating, they never allow themselves the oportunity to really observe the alliances between the two fan bases. And so we get these silly threads like this one.
all one has to do is look at the most recent American Fed Cup team and see just how well Lindsay and the Williams sisters get along. But of course that is not the original intent of this thread, right DevilishAttitude? ;) The more people realize how kewl the Williams fans are, the more people like DevilishAttitude try to prevent it. Well, since you read every post by Venus fans, including the Venus' player forum, please post the threads and the post numbers so that we can see just how many and who you are referring to in particular, because I never said Venus would win or lose. I was taking one match at a time, just like Venus herself. Furthermore, I even stated that if Venus doesn't win this, I'm glad it's Lindsay, because I'm a fan of her's too.

Also, I don't see how much better we can make Lindsay look as she is the No. 1 player.

Yeah, Sharapova won a slam, exactly one year ago and has been beaten by Serena, Lindsay, Justine, Kim and now Venus since then. She's also been double bageled, so I don't think it's Venus we need to worry about against the Top Ten this season. I think Maria's fans are the ones who need to worry a little. Yes, Venus has had some bad matches against some opponents who have not been in the top twenty, but at least she's never been bageled, let alone double bageled.

Well now they have not always gotten along. In the old days when the sisters where still rising in the ranks and Lindsay was well up there, a lot of Williams fans were pretty mean towards her.

However, as all three players have matured and gotten to know each other, there is a wonderful amount of mutual respect between them that I love.

Why people make these unfounded generalities, as spencercarlos does, is beyond me. Don't they realize that they'll be called on to produce the facts?

Incidentally, I read quite a few of my Royal Court peeps posts, and most said that they did not want to get ahead of themselves in predicting a Venus win. As for people who are constantly mean and offensive, they use it as a sort of defense mechanism in order to hide their insecurities and low self worth. When anyone constantly resort to degrading others in order to elevate another that is a dead give away.

Anyway as a Williams fan I have no problem giving Lindsay credit for her efforts and I also mostly admire the way she has matured into a wonderful human being. :hearts:

Sorry but i was not the one who was constantly putting Venus down, Venus was indeed. She was the one who had more than three years without winning a slam.
Everybody was looking for answers, i had my own theory. She certainly came with a better serving stuff (indeed the best in a long time) and a more consistent play on her forehand. And those were exactly the topics i have named about Venusīs struggle over and over in the past months.

Venus has indeed being bageled at times, Hingis did that to her at least two times, and against Davenport she has been bageled too.
Anyway Iīm not comparing Venus with Sharapova, i just stated that i will be interesting to see how the rest of the year goes, without any doubt Venus winning revolves everything and it will be nice to see who lifts the Usopen trohpy since at this point no one is dominating or a clear cut to win (except Henin at clay) and Davenport-Sharapova-Henin being the most consistent players of this year. Weīll see.
