I was on the internet today and was stunned to learn that 70s actress, Debralee Scott, who's claim to fame was a panelist on Match Game and the Comedy, Welcome Back Carter, had died in April of "natural causes" at age 52.

I remember just reading about her last year as she lost her fiance during 9-11. Rumor has it I guess that she had been in extreme depression and died from liver disease due to excessive alchohol abuse.

Kind of hit hard since I just lost a good friend to the same thing.

I know it's kind of a morbid topic but anyone else know of a celebrity passing that surprised you or just found out about?

Just two months ago I found out Glenn Quinn from Roseanne and Angel died of a drug overdose in 2002. That was another shocker cause I had no idea where I was when it was in the news.

Depression --> drinking --> dead.
I should be careful.

Yeah, I was bummed about Glenn Quinn. I hadn't heard about it until a year after the fact. It's sad, when things like that go unnoticed.

Glenn Quinn died ? OMG, I didn't know that...that's sad...

I remember listening to the radio, while being in Denmark and suddenly they said, "American singer Aaliyah died. Plain crash"...I was completely shocked the whole day! Whenever a plain crashes I am kind of outraged and together with the fact that a famous persons (Someone u "knows") was on it is a double shock!

Yep I thought the same thing. Had no idea about Glenn. As for Aaliyah, her death began an eerie string of deaths that included the lead singer of La Bouche, also of a plane crash, a singer of I think De La Soul (can't remember her name or the actual band name) and then of course Lisa Lopes.

I have to admit, Anne Bancroft shocked me. Joan Fontaine, Patricia Neal, and I all have a Best Actress death pool contest going on, but Anne Bancroft wasn't on any of our lists. I'm still holding out with Luise Rainer, I mean, that broad's like 95, I want my money already! Pat is putting all her eggs in the Elizabeth Tayor basket. I don't need to tell you who Joan Fontaine stuck all her money on. I don't feel bad about it, I know the three of us are in the death pool that Faye Dunaway, Diane Keaton, and Sally Field have going.

Ms. Scott's death was tragic. There was simply nothing that could appease her depression after losing her fiance.

The recent death that got by me was another 70's actor, J.D. Cannon who was on McCloud.

J. D. Cannon (actor) -- Died May 20, 2005. Born April 24, 1922. Clifford on McCloud.

It didn't really shock me. When I heard she had to start doing "nudies" and "art films" in France to pay for Tony's sanitarium bills, I figured the porno producers would get her hooked on something and she'd be dead in 5 years anyway.

I never really got along with Jennifer. She once told Neely that I was "an old witch" and that I should be "boiled in oil." Bitch! Who's still going strong now, hon?

I'm in on that pool, Hel. I've got my money on Cher. I figure by sheer law of averages some surgeons knife is gonna end up sewn inside her by accident and harpoon her organs.

That's not a bad theory, Joan, and frankly, not one I'd thought of! Someone, I won't say who, put Jodie Foster on their list after Hinkley got the right to at-home unsupervised visits, but I thought that was just rude.

Rude or not, I might get in on that action myself, Hel. Pat must have thought she was on to something good during the Jackson trial, especially if Liz had to take the stand.

There's a pool on Emmy winners too. I've had my money on Stritch for 10 years but she keeps living just to spite me.

I know it! I mean, who would have guessed that Luise Rainer makes it to 95? Stritch has to be at least 95 also.

I guess once Luise bites the dust, I'll pick Jane Wyman or maybe Maggie Smith.

Lol you mean Elaine Stritch?

She may look 95 but I think she is only in her late 70s. Remember seeing Luise in that special a few years ago at the academy awards that had many of the living classic actors and actresses in tribute sitting together on stage.

I was amazed at how beautiful she still was for her age. Those wonderful eyes of hers were still unmistakingly striking to me.

Luise might be the current oldest living star of the Golden age right now.

Celia Cruz because I didn't know she was sick and she was so full of energy anytime I saw her that when I heard she had died I didn't want to believe it.

I was shocked the other day to see that Lane Smith, from "Lois & Clark", "My Cousin Vinny", and the original "Mighty Ducks" died a few weeks back from Lou Gehrig's disease.

He always made me chuckle thanks to his hand movements.

I remember watching 'Behind the Music' on Aaliyah. A day later, she died. And I remember I was a fan of hers way before her death, but when I watched the Behind the Music I just remember thinking 'Wow'. It stuck with me that feeling till now, because she won me completely over as a fan that moment.
Her death suprised me, because her record label ahd to make sure she was safe at all times, and she wasn't.

Aalyiah's death also shook me most, when I hear or read something about it I still begin to cogitate, also it's almost 4 years ago now.

And I also think of Kazakh professional cyclist Andrei Kivilev who died in March 2003 after a terrible bike accident  .

When the skier Ulrike Meier crashed and died during a race at Garmische in the mid 1990s. I was going skiing the first time with school the next day and was nearly hysterical.

I was actually suprised when I found out last year (by being dragged to a Harry Potter film) that Maggie Smith is still alive. :o I honestly thought that she was really old when she played in Sister Act and seeing that that film was made in 1990 or 1991... Oh well, better for her

Lol she is just turning 70 I think this year. She was in her late 50's when she did sister act.

Hmmm can't remember who it was then. It was right after La Bouche singer Melanie Thornton had died in a plane crash in 2001.

The third performer had been hit by a car, but I did not really know who she was as a performer as I did Aayliah and Melanie.

Just remember being a bit shocked that they just seemed to be dying right after each other.

Just found out the singer I was looking for was named Doreen Waddel from the group Soul II Soul.

Aaliyah's death was so shocking. I remember hearing she had died on the radio and my heart jumped, it was so devastating. Also JFK Jr and his wife dying in a plain crash was unbelievable. Princess Diana dying in a car crash, and Luther Vandross was kind of shocking also, even though he was sick it seemed he was past the worst of his sickness.

Yeah very tragic. Nicole DeHuff. She had pneumonia and from what I read we probably have not heard the last of that. More than likely a malpractice suit will be brought upon by Nicole's mother.

Another one for me from last year was singer Laura Branigan. That hit close to home because it was a brain aneurysm which killed my dad and a friend in less then 8 months (and knew two others that survived them two months later)

Very tragic considering I think she was in progress of a comeback.
