View Full Version : Serena looking sluggish...Is she okay?

New
Jun 23rd, 2005, 05:14 PM
Anyone watching this match now? Pls tell me more about how she is, cos before the TV switched courts, I saw her play and got broken at 0-1, she was frowning and moved slowly, almost as if she was not feeling well...

Hope she is fine...

a lot of UE from serena, whats up with the serve? im watching on in pip mode right now but it doesnt seem to be strong right now?

Weird. In her first service game, she just wasn't putting power on her serves. It wasn't like those injured serves she has when she's hurt, but just sluggish serves. Then, in the second service game, she put some pace on it, but was spraying the ball.

I know....in that 1st game it looked like she was just spinning the serve in... Mara is not having to do anything other than hit the ball back once or twice. Serena definitely looks out of sorts.

mrush2004
Jun 23rd, 2005, 05:21 PM
mara is playing smart imo though by just getting the ball over the net and not going for much and hoping for Serena UE since nothing is working for serena right now

40-0
Jun 23rd, 2005, 05:22 PM
at this point i seriously dont think serena its gonna win wimb! shes not playing good.. something its not right with her.... IF only IF she reaches the 4th round shell be out because venus its gonna take her like she did in nasdaq, plus venus playing horrible sometimes... if she pass daniela she will be in the 1/4 finals, and maybe a good great chance to be in the semis..only if she wants really bad!

I hope she pick up her game soon...

Carillo just said that her father suggested to her to skip wimbledon but serena wanted to play.

I hope she can play herself into form.

Exactly, i do not know why people are so suprise that she ain't playing that good. You just can't turn it on and off. She first has to get herself in shape.

This isn't nice to see. All credit to her opponent, she is keeping it solid with some passes and variety. Serena a couple of years ago would be killing her.

I havent seen her look or pay attention to her ankle so far, but she definitely doesn't look comfortable out there, mainly with movement. When stretched wide she is spraying the ball everywhere, thats not Serena

Both ankles are taped, just that point then she made a move outwide to the deuce side that looked very uncomfortable...and then again, every move seems like a major effort from her. Something isn't right...nobody can put their finger on it.

Just like Eleni?

Santangelo is doing what she needs to do so good for her. she's taking advantage of the situation and only a fool would not.

However, Serena still has a set to stay in this championship.

Who does that?

No one comes back from a lay off showing no signs of rust. No one wins matches because of a fear factor. Sorry but it takes more than that. Yesterday Serena won because she battled through her rust and focused on her game. Angela played out of her mind and Serena did great to match and exceed her.

She has to do the same here though this girl is not playing great shes just doing holding her nerve and not choking which might be enough if serena doesnt raise her level.

Her serve is at least somewhat better. But her ground game is a fine mess. Hopefully she can hit through the rust.

justine's numbers were good. not great but quite good. she just got beaten. no excuses just the truth from the FRENCH OPEN CHAMPION!

serena should still survive this match but she is playing awful.something is wrong with her. either mentally or physically. I am not sitting here saying that Serena is 100% healthy and getting outplayed. In fact, she looks bad and is struggling.

Here's a thought. The AUSTRAILIAN OPEN CHAMPION hasn't had enough match play. Wow who would have thought that was a foreign concept.

Also justine had plenty of excuses. I read the transcripts.

Serena needs to pick it up hopefully the more matches she gets through the better she gets.

People are being so harsh on Serena. She hasn't played a single warm-up tournament, was everyone expecting her to just breeze to the semis?? I sure didn't. I don't see anything out of the ordinary with her struggling to stay in the match. Serena has never been one of my faves but I hope she can win this one. I'd like to see a Serena/Maria rematch.

cybelle, no need to take that tone with me. :) i agree with all that you wrote. You brought up Justine's loss to strike back at me and put me on the defensive. No excuses made by me or Justine. She did not prepare and was not ready nor did she have the option to prepare. Just the truth. Eleni followed up with a 2 and 0 win today and I really like her game. (so much like juju's :hearts:)

I'm hoping she can capitalize. Santangelo is going to make her work for it.

Serena dropped the first set 6-2 (Mara broke her serve twice) but she recovered to win the second set 6-3.
