I'm gonna be in Athen, Greece for 5 days in september and I would like to visit other countries in Europe. Lat year I went to Paris and Munich and absolutely loved both :hearts: . There's actually 3 places I'm considering and would like to know what you would recommend me. Here's the 3 dificult choices:

- Prague, Czech Republic
- Amsterdam, Netherlands
- London, England

I'm open by the way to other suggestions :wavey:

Well, smarties, I believe you have plenty of options when it comes to choosing European capitals for a visit... depending on how much time you have, how much you intend to be travelling (distances, duration of flights, etc.) you really can go pretty much anywhere and come back satisfied.
Anyone who's been to Prague just falls in love for the place, it's got some kind of magic about itself, and september would be a great time for a visit... summer can get quite hot in thre Czech Republic, so you'd find mild temperatures but still nice weather, it'd be perfect. I'm not familiar with Amsterdam, so I'll leave that to the contribution of the Dutch community :)
London's one of my favourite cities, but it has a different feel about it, compared with the other options you listed... coz it's so much bigger, more populated and all that.
Other suggestions on my part include Italy (so banal, I know:o ) and Spain. Late summer can be a great time of the year for a weekend in Rome, Barcelona, Madrid...

Thanks guys, especially Andy :wavey: , I was leaning toward Prague cause like you said it seems so magical :hearts:

Still I would like to know more especially about how is it in the Netherlands and if it's a better idea to go to a smaller city than Amsterdam who seems verry touristic.

I've been to Prague this year and it's a very beautiful city. Another suggestion would be Rome and Budapest. The last city is my favourite European city :hearts:

I would chose Prague and London above Amsterdam anytime...

I live in the Neds, so I know my way around Amsterdam, and it really isn't that great! But then again, I am biased, since I am live here! :p

Prague is absolutely AMAZING. :yeah: And a lil' cheaper than London! ;) :D

Budapest is my second home... AND by far my favorite European city. Again, I'm biased cause I lived there. But what the hell, Budapest is awsome!

:yeah:

Other than :worship: Wimbledon :worship: I wasn't really impressed with London when I was there in 2000, and that's about my only trip to a foreign country, If you don't count an hour I spent in Copenhagen airport.
Copenhagen is worth a visit too, I think

I have to agree with some here: I didn't find London all that great either.

Those 3 cities in order :

- Prague

- London

- Amsterdam

Prague is absolutely stunning, definitely one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. However a downside may be that it's crowded with tourists so certain areas of the city are quite difficult to enjoy because of the mass.
London is nice as well, offers everything a big city has to offer so also the negative things but the positives are far more numerous.
Amsterdam...well I didn't like it but judging by the number of tourists that visit the city, there must be something right with it although I haven't found it.

Thanks a lot guys!!! :worship: Thanks to you I've narrowed my choices to 2 cities: Prague and Budapest and I'm leaning right now more toward Prague :)
Just have to see if it's affordable but hey, what the hell, you only leave once

if you only have 5 days I think you should stay in Greece.

I don't know why London always gets a bad rep, it is by far my favorite city in the world

If you wanna go to a smaller city in Holland...come to Utrecht where I live. It is the fourth biggest city in the centre of my country and it is nice especially in the summer.

But anyways...Holland is not that special I think so you should go to Prague!

Prague really looks like an unanimous choice!!! :)

BTW Justeenium, I'll be 5 days in Greece, after I'm looking to spend at least 1 week in another european country. BTW, for those who have been to Prague, do you think 1 week is enough??? judging by my experience in Munich in Paris I wouldn't think so but...

Budapest is the best :yeah:

I am sure I'll be going back there someday!

I think 1 week is enough. I went for 4-5 days and another day or so would have been perfect.

Well i would recommend both London and Amsterdam.

Rome and Barcelona.

Dublin..

Actually go anywhere you want in Europe, there's always something beautiful and/or interesting to see. Bon voyage!

Yeah, I second Dahveed on this - every major European city is attractive with interesting historical sites, art museums, etc. Personally, I'm very fond of Florence and Rome but that's partly just because it's so much easier being vegetarian in Italy than it is in other European countries..

Wouldn´t go to London or Amsterdam

other great places- Milano, Nice, Zurich, Vienna, Munich-very cool  , Maribor-lovely:D , of course Graz ;) , Firenze :hearts:

Prague is called by some the "new Paris" or "Eastern Paris". Personally, I visited the city last year, and I really enjoyed it, even if its much smaller than Paris ;).

Bump :p
I join the Prague league :p I spent 1 week there last summer and was great, nice public transport, nice buidings, lots of cultural and night life. Food was really cheap and so hostels are. THe worst is that it was full of tourist... however I was lucky enough to take a pic of Charles brigde without anyone in it
ANother cities I'd think about would be Rome to be in touch with ancient culture, every single corner of the city has something special, I love it and can't wait to visit again... on the other hand it was extremely hot, but if you take a botle with ice with you, you won't have problems at all ;)
Then Edinbourgh and Barcelona... I just love these cities.

I was wondering if you or any posters who went to the Czech republic went to a smaller city outside of Prague cause I would love to see maybe if I have time, another side of this country, one not full of tourist.

BTW propi how did you manage to take that pic? at night?

About 50 km east of Prague is the city of Kutna Hora which used to be a former royal town. It's a small town and not swamped with tourists like Prague but definitely worth a visit.

please visit prague - i've been there for, i guess, six times and i always loved it so much! but europe has so many great and beautiful places; yes: london and amsterdam, but barcelona, rome, venice, berlin, krakau, malta and a lot of others rock too!

Prague is supposed to be beautiful. Everyone I know that went there had a blast. It's got a lot of history and it is not too expensive, I've been told. I definitely want to go there myself someday soon.

London is my favourite city :inlove: I am just in love with Starbucks (I know it's not typical for London, but they have so many :p), Wimbledon and the British Museum. Plus there are so many bookstores to go to :p And so many more museums to try out and the best thing is that most of them are free. I would probably choose for London, but Prague would be a great option too.

I am Dutch myself and I absolutely hate the city of Amsterdam. There's little there that is worth paying a visit, so I suggest you leave Prague and London to be the only real two options.

Well how did I manage??? at 5.30 in the morning :p
A little tip... we used to take a big towel with us everyday in our bag, we had the nice habit of going to Strelecky Ostrov (I think), a little island between Charles' and Jiraskuv bridges, where a youth hostel was, after having lunch (used to be pretty cheap) and sleep a great little siesta to charge our batteries for the rest of the day. Great place to do it :yeah:

hello
Prague is very enjoyable. If you are travelling by anything other than airplane, remember Greece is a long way away. Italy is much closer. Rome is one of the must places to see in the world.
ps just got activated. waited over a month hello
