World's oldest married man dies

The world's oldest married man has died at the age of 105.

Percy Arrowsmith and his wife Florence, 100, made it into the Guinness Book of Records after celebrating their 80th wedding anniversary on 1 June.

The couple, from Hereford, also held the record for being the oldest married couple in the world.

Mr Arrowsmith died peacefully at his home on Wednesday morning. The Bishop of Hereford expressed his sorrow at the news and paid tribute to Mr Arrowsmith.

'In love'

The Rt Revd Anthony Priddis, who visited the couple on their anniversary, said: "Percy and Flo were very happy when I saw them on their anniversary.

"They were still very much in love with each other. They have been churchgoers all their life and I am sure the family will find comfort in their Christian faith."

He added: "We will all be praying for Flo and the family in their grief."

When interviewed earlier this month, Mrs Arrowsmith said she felt very lucky that she and her husband were still together.

She added: "We don't often quarrel. We never go to bed as bad friends." Mr and Mrs Arrowsmith, who had three children, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, tied the knot at their local church in Hereford in 1925. Arrangements for Mr Arrowsmith's funeral have not yet been finalised.

I don't want to sound harsh, but isn't it sadder (more sad?) if a person dies after being married for just a year... or a day?

I mean, honestly, they might have been cute together, but they were lucky enough to spend 80 years together in the first place... I feel sorry for his wife and her loss, but somehow it's not like it was totally unexpected, during the prime of their lives together...

i don't want to seem cold, so you guys can go ahead and feel sad again :)

OUT!

No, both are equally as sad.

I posted an thread on their anniversary a few weeks ago! I feel sure she won't live long without him. It usually happens that if one spouse goes, the other isn't too far behind after so many years. RIP :)

WOW! Many people don't even make it to 80 years, let alone stay married that long. I hate to sound negative, but she'll soon follow, which ain't a bad thing really. Personally, I couldn't see being without my wife, and we've only been married 10 years. :hearts:
