Ratings for final

Are the ratings out yet. Talk about a boring final..thank god I did not watch it and yet they criticize the william's finals. I didn't read any news media talking about this one...em I wonder why.

Shut up about ratings. I went to the US 2 times and I was shocked by the amount of ads on TV. That you still watch TV is beyond me.

it was gonna be a sleeper and it was.

Tuned back to ctach the trophy presentation.

Mary's speech was the best part of that
entire telecast IMO.


Now, the men's final was much more exciting
for me. It was an actual match!

I believe the women's rating was
like a 1.9 and it was a 2.0 for the men.

Yea, I really enjoyed the Men's final. It was like watching a Serena's final with any player on the other side of the net.

TV Ratings for French Open Stays Steady

NBC's telecast of Rafael Nadal's victory over Mariano Puerta in the men's final of the French Open on Sunday drew an overnight rating of 2.0, close to the usual number for a major tennis final without Americans.

Belgian Justine Henin-Hardenne's victory over Mary Pierce of France in the women's final on Saturday drew a 1.9 rating. Both championship matches earned a share of six.

Last year's men's final at Wimbledon, when American Andy Roddick lost to Roger Federer, drew a 3.6 rating on NBC. But the U.S. Open final, in which Federer of Switzerland beat Australian Lleyton Hewitt, drew a 2.5 on CBS.

Last year's all-Argentinian final in the French Open had a rating of 2.1

The rating is the percentage of all homes with TVs, whether or not they are in use. The share is the percentage of in-use televisions tuned to a given show. Overnight ratings measure the 55 largest TV markets in the United States, covering nearly 70 percent of the country.

can you really go by that? Was Serena's demolition of Martina Hingis at the US Open boring? Looking at the scoreline only would suggest it was but people who saw the match knew something else because Serena was on fire that day and it's always interesting to see someone put on a stellar performance.

You are right about that. That match between Serena and Martina was great especially Serena's shot making. Yea, so you are correct. It was still boring whichever way you look at it. (the FO).

OMG not many americans watched the french open final between a player from france and a player from Belgium!!!! I'm dumbfounded as to why this would be.

I'm sure the ratings were terrible in France and Belgium as well - not that those countries matter ;)

yeah i know especially when you compare it to the spectacle of last years Wimbledon final. Now that was an experience!!!

Oh my the men's final finally beat the women's final. :eek: Not a good sign for the WTA. I watched the match and it was pretty bad. It was like a routine 2nd round match for Justine.

It's the whole broadcast. NBC stopped releasing data for individual matches after 2000 Wimbledon. They released the overnights for the Davenport/Williams final, confident that Sampras' attempt at the record would garner higher numbers. When it didn't, they tried to "re" release the numbers of the entire Saturday telecast (which was lower because it included the men's doubles final) as the "women's final". Since then they've given the numbers for the whole broadcast only, for French and Wimbledon telecasts.

For comparative purposes, here are the overnight and final numbers for last year's Saturday and Sunday telecasts: (note "final" = final complete ratings for the
telecasts, not the ratings for the singles finals)

Saturday: overnight- 1.7; final- 1.6
Sunday: overnight- 2.1; final- 1.5

The Saturday numbers stayed almost the same, while Sunday lost almost 1/3. If the final numbers this year follow a similar pattern, you'd be looking at a 1.8 and 1.4 respectively. My guess is Nadal would hold viewers better than Coria and Gaudio.

So far, all we know is the Saturday overnights were up .2, and Sunday's were down .1 from last year.
