Andrew Murray was one of nine Britons to get a wildcard for Wimbledon, just hours after recording his first ATP Tour win at Queen's Club.

The 18-year-old Scot, who beat Santiago Ventura on Monday, will be joined by Josh Goodall, Alan Mackin, Jonathan Marray and David Sherwood.

Elena Baltacha, Amanda Janes, Anne Keothavong and Katie O'Brien were the British women handed wildcards.

Other wildcards went to Cara Black, Jelena Dokic and Mark Philippoussis. Three more women and two more men will be announced later.

Looks like the AELTC used their 2 to give to Cara and Jelena. Cara seems an odd choice, it's not as if people flock to see her unless she's doing well in the doubles. Would have expected it to have gone to Chanda Rubin.

Katie O'Brien getting one is a bit of a surprise, she's not really been performing over the past few weeks, and perhaps would have been better off in the play-offs?

Like you I expected Chanda to receive one. Allocating one to Cara is entirely consistent though with standard Wimbledon procedure of supporting players who have been successful in doubles at Wimbledon. Pam Shriver, Gigi Fernandez, Natasha Zvereva, Mahesh Bhupathi and the Woodies have all benefited in the last 10 years - and Cara is a reigning doubles champion.

Pleased to see that all 9 British WCs are in accordance with the criteria laid down last year.

Sarah Borwell & Jane O'Donoghue will hopefully come through the playoff ;) Maybe Karen in place of Jane :)

Jane's gonna have to scrap for a wildcard, eh? I'm torn between who I'd like to see get one...

Hope Jelena draws davenport or maria in the first round so we can see her on TV, otherwise she'll just lose in the first round, and I've never seen her play, just wanna see what took her to No. 4.

can't believe dokic.
question - the next 3 womens WCs to be announced- will they be anyone or brits? also why is everyone so up for rubin - she's not that good - lost in first round last year - what form is this based on?

:tape: Chanda Rubin is GOOD, in capital letters. She's one of the most talented players ever, she's just been struggling with injuries for the last few years.
A couple of seasons ago, in the Williams domination era, she was one of the only players who could give either Venus or Serena a fight.
She sure deserves a WC!

dokic's wildcard is for qualifying it's been discovered.

I would have thought Rubin could get in on injury rank/protected rank... but I dunno... I can see them giving her one so it wouldn't be a big surprise...

So how many qualy wildcards are there normally? Are they going to give one to Cristelle Grier again this year? If there are eight, that'll only leave 5 spare now...

Chanda even BEAT Serena when she was ranked #1 in the world a few years back :bounce: Also, Chanda was a top 10 player before these horrible injuries took over her so it is only rightly so that she gets a wc, she is of top 10 pedigree.

You can only use the injury rank if you're been out for 3 GS's...Rubin played RG! ;)

Why give Hannah one?

She'll prob retire at 6-0 5-0 up:lol:

So Jane and Becky got the MD ones.

I fear for Becky. If she plays a huge hitter like davenport/serena she'll be off the court in 15 mins.

Hope she gets a good draw and makes a good impression.

Good to see Jade getting one. Will be good to see what she can do.

jelena was given a wildcard, but didn't take it

misa is 1st alternate for the main draw, so may get in herself, in which case i'd expect sarah borwell to get her main drw wild card
