Hmm, I swear I saw Rafa hitting 205 km/h serve, at least that's the speed they showed on TV! ;)

And Rafa doesn't have the slowest serve on ATP. ;)

Plus Justine hits her serve on the line most of the time, even 2nd ones! ;)

Rafa's has sooooooo much more spin on it, and is way heavier than Justine's.

I think he hit 205 km/h in his sem-final match, yes.

That's true.

Take Volandri's serve, though. Even Dementieva's would look good.

Even though Rafa's serve has much more spin and is way heavier, still its good work of Justine...

You can't compare based on just speeds!Rafa gets so much spin and kick on it its far more effective than Justines even if it is slower.

No it wouldn't.

Rafa's serve will still probably get better, he's only 19 remember. ;)
Justine has spent a lot of time on her serve. I don't think Rafa spends as much time on his serve.

Off course, he does! In the interviews he constantly is talking about improving his serve. It's already much better then last year.

I agree, just look at the 1st and 2nd serve percentage and I'm pretty sure that Rafa has a higher % and at the end of the day it kinds of counts more...

don't try to compare men and women serves.
vaidisova cannot beat johannson just because both pile up 10+ aces in alot of matches...

No matter how you look at it, it's a fascinating stat. Thanks for bringing it to our attention, gabrielle! I remember a year or two ago being shocked after a Lindsay-Justine match to discover that the pace on Justine's serve, on average, was greater than big-serving Lindsay's. But this new comparison with Rafa, meaningless though it is in many ways :D, is even cooler than that.

Rafael can hit serves in the upper 120s MPH. He chooses not to on clay. Justine goes for broke, but Rafa ads heavy spin. I guarantee you that if Rafa actually had Justine's serve on the ATP, he would almost never hold.

It's just fun. Not every thread has to be weighty.

Rafael's serve is all about spinning it in with good placement & keeping a higher percentage of 1st serves. He has a good 1st service % most of the time. If he flattens it out it's not that bad.

Justine is more of a risk taker with her serve & sometimes it helps her, sometimes it hurts her.

if nadal served to justine he would hit 50 aces by kicking it so much she could even reach it.

some don't understand how unbelievably difficult Nadal's serve would be to return on clay because she's lefty so it's hard to read and the amount of spin he puts on it is out of this world.

he'll flatten it out at wimbledon.

I never thought this thread was meant to be an attack on Nadal at all. gabrielle just pointed out some interesting stats she noticed, that's all. She didn't say anything about "better", "worse", "permanent situation", or "so very meaningful". Why does the simplest little thing have to draw out so much sturm und drang around here? What a shame for people to take everything so seriously.

Do the men in mixed doubles hit 50 aces per match ?
