That's without the result of the RG-final, so Justine should have an even bigger lead :)

The top 3 should probably start looking for a good hotel deal. They are pretty much booked a place. The other 5 spots are still in the air, so here is mine 8 to be at YEC:

Justine
Lindsay
Maria
Patty
Amelie
Serena
Kim
Alicia

I don't think Sveta will make this year

one thing I don't like it is that I don't see any intrigue left. The top players are pretty much at the top, so the rest of the season is useless :D

Molik over Dementieva? That would not be fun!

As of now, heres how I rate their chances @ the YEC....

Justine Henin-Hardenne 2264 A Definitite lock
Lindsay Davenport 2260 Guaranteed
Maria Sharapova 2217 ditto
Patty Schnyder 1685 ?? not sure, she's up high now but I'm unsure of how she'll do during the summer hardcourts. She can definitely make it but I don't think she's guaranteed.
Amelie Mauresmo 1667 She'll most likely be there.
Serena Williams 1598 Yes... is a GS winner given a WC if out of the top 8, like the ATP??
Kim Clijsters 1576 if she stays healthy...yes
Nadia Petrova 1463 don't think so
Mary Pierce 1291 I doubt it
Elena Dementieva 1089 don't think so, she's kind of 50-50
Ana Ivanovic 1054 not yet
Nathalie Dechy 1041 no
Alicia Molik 961 unless she has an out of this world Wimbledon, I doubt it. Being out for a GS & most of the clay(although her worst surface) hurt her.
Venus Williams 926 she needs one hell of a wimbledon & a good hardcourt summer.
Svetlana Kuznetsova 920 I'm surprised she is this low, I think she CAN but don't think she will

Alicia and Svetlana both are in the best position as they are more versatile out of the group of contenders.

Venus, of course, is a dark horse. If we get back 50% of real Venus, she'll be in the top 8 with for sure.

Molik over Dementieva? That would not be fun!

With no improvement (or very little) in the service department, it'll be tough for her to get deep in tournaments this year. Big babes are playing well again, a lot of hungry youngsters are out there...

With 2 slams left and a whole summer hardcourt season left, I can't see how you guys can be making predictions already...Lots can happen from now and the end of the year. It's just been half the year!

there is usually a cut off number of points to make top 8: around 2300-2400, so that's not tough to make a prediction.

now, if you talk about injuries, it's always a wild card. of course, all prediction are based on the fact that players will play most of the season.

things will be REALLY clear after wimbledon is my guess, i mean, yeah, the summer hardcourts, us open, and indoor still await us, but i think only those in the top 15 after wimbledon will have ANY chance, and we should be able to weed out 4 or 5 of the pretenders by then as well

Isn't the lesson of 2005 that it depends who is injured when, who chokes when and who plays well when in what draw? You can see the top 3 going backward or forward and the next 5 changing quite dramatically depending on how that lot pans out. Kim or Sveta played sets good enough to win both the next GS at the FO and you wouldn't be surprised to se someone else do it too. Will Momo, Kim, Sveta, lindsay, venus or serena repeat their latest form or return to their old standard? Alicia, Maria and Lindsay also have an awful lot to defend.

How cool isn't it that Mary is back in top 15 for the first time since 2001. What a stong performance. Now top 10. Not impossible

Ana on no.11 is just amazing. Keep up the good work. She has about 250 points to defend until the end of the year. And she could do it already at Wimbledon!!!!!! Come on Anci!

that's usually true when there are some wonders at the top of the ranking (like Patty to an extent). Considering that all the top girls are already at the top of the race this year, I'd be surprised if there are any significant changes.

Svetlana, Ana, Venus (I still believe we'll see a great summer from her) are the only ones who could still get in (based on their success playing on grass, hard court and indoors).

PS. All above holds only if there are no injuries. Kim is up in the air with all her nagging injuries (even though they seem not to be serious). Serena is another girl in doubt.

yes but thats from her kremlin cup win and yec semis. she also has tier 1 final (is san diego tier 1?) and semifinal (montreal) points during us hardcourt.

Kim with or without slam looks like she will end the year ranked 1. She is great on hardcourts and fantastic indoors. Plus she is healthy and does not shy away from playing a host of tournys.
