I know that most people here in GM will go on and on about how poorly the match went and how this is the worst blah blah blah in the world.

Please understand however that Justine have gone through a lot over the past year and this has just been such an amazing achievement for her. Her fans have had to go through a year of tennis not knowing whether Justine would ever get a chance to win anything ever again.

Say what you will about the match, but this win is just unbelievably satisfying.

24 in a row. 23 titles. 27-1.

I agree 100%. I am thrilled and am glad Justine won CONVINCINGLY

It is a true achievement for Juju indeed. But I would say the essential part of that achievement was beating Medina Garrides, Kuznetsova and Sharapova. Unfortunately, Pierce did play very badly

Yes, there's so much nerve wrecking matches of Justine that we can handle!
4th slam!! :hearts:

You make it sound like Justine has come back from the verge of death or something .

She showed great determination to win this tournament and is a worthy winner. That seems to be all to me.

Re: the quality of the tournament I don't see why people get so upset about it - if it was so bad then how come no one else stepped up to take advantage ?

Congrats to Justine.

well i guess, when Justine beats 3 spaniard clay courters in a row and then Sveta and convincingly drubs Maria & Nadia, It is safe to say that beating Mary is just a formality!

Allez Justine!

BTW, they great friends and I love the postmatch hug!

That's not what I'm saying. Even she said so herself that she questioned her capabilities to play tennis again. So to win another GS (especially RG) is extremely special. And no matter the quality of the matches she's played at RG (or the matches played in general), try to understand the meaning of this win for what it is.

I don't have anything with Justine... I don't really 'like' her. But I respect her for her achievements and being the great athlete that she is. She came back firing like no other and somehow... she seems to be MORE appreciative now than she was before.

A great win for Justine... She fought, she won! Well done! :yeah:

I suspect people are sad (like me) and others upset, because Mary didn't play in the final as well as she played during the tournament. If Mary had played better, we would have had a great final. Obviously, this takes nothing from Juju: she is the deserved winner

I understand the meaning of this win perfectly. Any grand slam win is special.

Yes she has had some concerns about her capabilities but she pitched up to win the Olympics about six months ago and then dominated the clay season. However long she had questioned her capabilities still remains not to have been that long.

If you want to talk about what people have gone through over the past year how about a word for Mary's emergence from several years of questioning her tennis ability ?

Em, like Kart, I do think you're exaggerating Justine's comeback a lot. It wasn't the most unlikely or hardest one I can think of, certainly. Maybe you disagree.

I think Justine did well to win her earlier matches, and definitely deserved to be in the final! It can't be helped, but it's a pity the final was a dud because Mary's level suddenly dropped from what it had been in previous matches. It was a disappointment, but it doesn't reflect on Justine.

Still at least Mary showed once again that she's still more than capable :yeah:.

I'm talking about people's reaction to wins like this. This win means so much to Justine after what she's been through over the past year that I'm just asking people to be more understanding instead of bitter because the quality wasn't always there. And yeah, Mary's emergence is amazing as well. To get to a GS final is fantastic after several years of mediocrity. Just like Serena won Australia after suffering the death of her sister and a nagging injury, that win was special too and should be respected regardless of how poorly Lindsay herself played.

I'm just asking people (who aren't as understanding as you are) to not tarnish this win by drilling messages of disgust all over the the msg boards.

I'm guessing that's too big a request.

Justine was in a depression, couldn't get out of her bad, and was doubting whether her virus will ever go...
If comeback from that is not special... Well, everyone can think what they want...

plus really nobody questioned Justine´s abilities....in fact wasn´t she the FAVOURITE going into RG? Respect for Justine...girl did her job.

Now contrast that to what Serena went and Venus still is going through. Bud Collins OPENLY said during the Oz open that he thought that Serena and Venus were done and finished. To me Serena´s win after that was even more special..

Love her or hate her, you have to admit that Justine is a champion. One thing that I like about her is that she is able to play well under pressure. She can go in with the pressure of being the favorite and not fall under the crush of expectations.

Hats off to Mary too. It was an awesome accomplishment to get to the final at this point in her career. She should be an example to the younger players about tenacity and stick-to-it-ness.

Congrats Juju! It was a dream final for me... my 2 favorites in the final of my fav. GS. It could've been better had mary played better.. but glad she got to the final. Sorry Justine, today was the first time I wasnt actually rooting for you, but you gotta understand how amazing it would've been to see Mary lifting the trophy again..

but 4th GS! YAY!!
