After the way Mary playled this week to get to the final I am a bit disappointed. I wasn't expecting her to win, but I was expecting her to play much better than the way she played today:sad: .

Well done Justine. :) This completes her great comeback story. :D Except Justine will win more grand slams so her comback really isn't complete.

And it's amazing how Henin's grand slam finals opponents other than venus Williams play scared against her. :scared:

BTW, with Justine's win, she now ties Venus witih the 2nd most GS singles titles of all the active womens' players, which is 4:) (I say 2nd because I really don't think Monica is ever going to play again:sad: and she has 9).

Jun 4th, 2005, 03:33 PM
If that were a film, the title would be "Pathetic In Pink". After that first game, Justine was untouchable but it seemed to me that for much of the match Mary Pierce was, as she has been so often before, too preoccupied with the "theatre" and not enough with the tennis. Her tennis was as shocking as the pink of her dress...

I am so happy for Justine! what a great story ending....only, like cat said, the comeback has just begun......

Two days i was pissed of Nadia, now i was more pissed of Mary! why can't she play good for heavens sake?

I guess that is what you get when you put two friends together to duke it out on court. They drama and competitive level is not there.

Look at the first few GS matches of the WS, Kim and Justine and of course, Elena & Nastya.

And now we had mary against Justine who just happens to be good friends and respect a lot each other.

Nice girls in the WTA is really bad for tennis....I want a catfight!!!!!

Mary   I just wish Mary could have played a lot better. So disappointing that she could not play her best today. Be proud of your run Mary. After a couple of years of injuries, looking out of shape etc., Mary kept the belief, kept enjoying herself and even though she didn't play well, she deserved another GS final. Allez Mary!

The French at least did not boo Mary too badly. Watching Mauresmo and Golovin sitting the stands after bombing out in the first week, the French maybe have realised at last that they should make the most of Mary because no one else is stepping up right now.

Congratulations Justine, she fought through this event even when she was not playing her best at times and she is a great champion.

Conratulations to Justine. A very well deserved title. She was the more determined player today. Excellent comeback story...I'm impressed. Allez Justine....You get what you work hard for. Congrats to Justine and her fans. She won this tournament over about three or four matches, IMO. Her comeback against Kuznetsova was a great win and gave her a lot of confidence. Unfortunately, Mary couldn't give her much of a match today, but she was solid and came through seemingly effortlessly. Good to see someone come back and recover so nicely from an illness. She's a great player for sure (pun intended)

Justine played so well Mary was not able to play well, she did on a few points but Justine's defensive game was too much for Mary and J's offensive work was great too
So, congrats Justine

And CONGRATS MARY for reaching the final , you're still France's n°1 for a long time ;) :bounce: :aparty: I'm glad and proud you made it so far , today was abad day , well , don't be ashamed, cause Justine played incredible and was lucky with the lines .

We've seen it so many times in previous tournaments but I find it very impressive how Justine's able to come out and bring her best when it matters. I was expecting a nervous final from Justine, but wow, she came out so determined to win a second time. She ended the claycourt season in style.

But justine did play awesome through the last few rounds. I'm astonished by the power she's producing from somewhere. She overpowered Mary, and put in some HUGE serves. She was really hungry for this title.

Rubbish final, feel a bit sorry for the french crowd they haven't had a good final since 2001. was a bit of a let down actually, it was a shame for mary to not be able to produce her best today and was great sad when she was crying. She's had a great tournament though. It was nice to see amelie in the crowd i just hope she'll be holding that trophy next year.

i still cant believe that nobody beat her on clay this year. when was the last time a player went undefeated on clay?

1995: Graf played only two tournaments on clay (Houston, Roland Garros) and won them both.

1990: Seles was unbeaten in the four clay court tournaments she played that year (Tampa, Rome, Berlin, Roland Garros).

1987: Graf won all six clay court tournaments she played that year (Hilton Head, Amelia Island, Rome, Berlin, Roland Garros, Hamburg).

And that then leads us into the era of Christine Marie Evert who went undefeated on clay for years. Her record stands at 125 consecutive matches won on clay -- she was undefeated on the surface for almost five years in a row.

I had a match this morning and couldn't watch (recorded it.) During my match friends and other players filtered on to the adjoining courts. Every
time the French Open was mentioned I tried to avoid hearing anything by
swallowing and humming loudly at the same time. When I was done I quickly grabbed my stuff and ran to the car, screaming "don't tell me, don't tell me!!"

Congrats Juju on your fourth major!!

What a great performance from Justine and she is a true Champion. She is definitely going to win many more grandslams in her career. I am very proud of what she has been able to accomplish since her comeback. Mary just did not have a rhythm, though I felt sorry for her at the end of it cos she really wanted to win this knowing that she may never ever get an opportunity like this again.
