I do feel it's up to Justine. If she keeps her game up, it should be over in two set. However, if she serves shits and makes tons of errors AND Mary gets all her guns out, Mary stands a chance for a 3-setter....then anything can happen.

One thing though, imo, Justine will not have to go for as much and in theory should make less UE. The normal left and right and occasional dropshots should disrupt Mary's rhythms.

I saw Mary play Justine at Wimbledon in 2003. The match was a lot closer than the scoreline suggests, although Justine did deserve to win - she was awsome that day. However, that was a different Mary. She's fitter, more confident and in great form. I think the match is going to be closer than people think.

Go Mary!

I don't think it's that easy to predict... That said, go Mary!

Agree completely. Considering it's on clay - both players fav imo, it could be a close contest.

BUT, the difference is, Mary has to play her VERY best tennis but Justine always has that 6th gear to go into if she digs deep.

Come On Mary - Set Down........

Why does Mary insist on trying to return Justine's 1st serve from on the baseline??

Can you believe this....how can you miss that smash..

OMG!! Mary just missed perhaps the easiest shot ever. These players are just handing Justine the title. WTF?!?!

Not to take anything away from Justine, but not even Martina Hingis has had opponents as easy as Justine has faced in her finals..

This is truly laughable. Can we ever get a high-quality women's final in a major (i.e. a final where both women play well at the same time)??

bandabou - It's true, and I don't mean to take it away from Justine either because she has won some good matches in her titles, but Kim choked in their 3 finals, and now Mary is, too.

Pierce is playing like crap, because Henin is too good for her. Not just because Pierce is playing a bad match.

Of course....but Pierce is missing easy shots too....don´t tell me Justine made Pierce miss that smash?

Justine is playing poorly as well - she's just doing enough to get the job done. This final sucks. Please, please can both play well AT THE SAME TIME??

Well, at least she's not going to be bagelled.

Think about the last 4 women's finals at Roland Garros; all were straight sets wins. Did any set even get beyond 6-4? And the final before that was the epic Capriati/Clijsters final, but even that wasn't a good match in terms of the quality of play. It was just a dramatic final.

Good point. At least Justine won't be bagelled here ;)

Well obviously Pierce is nervous. But it's easy to just say "oh, Henin had easy opponents"!

I forgot this is Mary´s first final...

I don't think anyone is saying Henin-Hardenne has had easy opponents as much as people are saying her opponents haven't gome with their best game. Obviously Justine can't help that, and she deserves her titles because she hasn't folded like her opponents, but as a fan of tennis we want to see quality matches and want to feel like the winner had to fight for the title. Mary Carillo said it best when she said Justine has been on the ropes this tournament, but no one has been willing/able to take it to her.

Henin beat Kuznetsova and Sharapova back to back just to make the 2005 French Open semifinals. She has not had an easy draw. And it's not her fault her grand slam finals opponent's other than Venus Williams played scared against her. :scared:

I dont think she had an easy draw either but her opponets have either buckled, froze or played badly.
She hasn't had to overcome any resistance at all, except Sveta maybe, but she choked.
Henin can only beat the girl on the other side of the net but they certainly haven't been of the calibre of a Graf, Seles, Sanchez, Nav, Hingis, Novotna or Sabatini.
Clisters is a great player but always chokes or freezes.

Justine tried to let Mary back in it with some late forehand errors and those 2 double faults, but Mary still couldn't do anything. Oh well, let's hope the Wimbledon final is exciting.

It definitely isn't Henin-Hardenne's fault that her opponents choke in the final; it's just bad for spectators. Plus, I want to see how Justine reacts when a final is truly close, and her opponent is playing well. Even up 6-1,5-1 Justin threw in 2 double faults serving for the match.

It's strange that Justine's opponents always tend to play poorly against her... Maybe, just MAYBE Justine's play has something to do with it? :tape:
