Wouldn't it be fun to see a great young female player come along who would bounce up and down like Rafa does at the net during the coin toss; who would leap in the air the way he does, fling herself around, and zoom over to her chair like she's on fire! :bounce:

I mean, I don't really wish for a Rafa-copycat girl ; that would be ridiculous. I really just mean one whose energy would explode from her the way Rafa's does, yet whose verve would be totally under control during the points. And a girl totally without nerves on the big occasions!

It could happen someday! I will root for this girl! :bigclap:

Errr, NO. Women's tennis is far too sensitive for that. The poor girl would be labeled as an "arrogant ****" by all the commentators and wtaworld posters. People have negative crap to say about Justine's "allez" and Maria's loud grunts and fist pumps. Sure, your idea's exciting, but, face it....women's tennis just isn't ready for that sort of thing.

ewww! No, that is NOT the kind of kid I had in mind -- Maria's too smooth, too bland, too marketed. I'm thinking more a sort of young, enthusiastic and happy, super-charged Arantxa-type. :D

 Well, that's a good point. What was I thinking! Even Arantxa's bounciness had its critics.

But I wish it could happen ...

Hey, we can dream. It takes a whole lot to revolutionize women's tennis. They'll come around soon enough.

as long as it's not another young Russian... :o

I'm not hatin' on them... but please, we need more Mirza's! :D

I knew that was coming... :p

I must say I like Pierce her on court and off court presence a whole lot better than Maria's. Then again, the girl is only 18. Can't blame her for it! :D

With the personality I have in mind, a Mediterranean sort would work -- a naturally passionate Italian or Spanish girl, an Albanian, a Mallorcan ;), a Syrian, even a girl from the south of France ...

But a blond Russian? An Anglo-Saxon? No, very doubtful the raw material is there.

Among WTA players, the one that's closest to your description would be Capriati. I always enjoy watching her play but she is not universally loved precisely because of her on-court demeanor.

can she come from Malta :D

we should create her... :hehehe:

She should be mixed raced :p

hmmm -- didn't think of her, but yes, when she was young and innocent and didn't have the chip on her shoulder or the anger yet.

What do you think about a cross between Daniilidou and Bartoli? :D

Okay! She can be Maltese, why not! The one thing she DEFINITELY can't be is American! The market forces would squeeze the joy out of her (see: Capriati).

I haven't seen many matches by these two. Danillidou was quite animated during her Olympics run, but I guess that's because she was playing in front of a home crowd. The only matches I have seen of Bartoli (usually doubles, with Casanova as partner) she seems pretty calm.

Bartoli cries a lot -- wrong kind of passion, I guess. >:(

I guess a cross between Young JenCap (very young, before the pressure started to build; we will have to say 14) and Young Arantxa, then. So now she's a better player than my previous girl. But I like Eleni's Dad, sitting in the stands handing out pastries to people nearby -- Eleni's Dad is definitely in as the girl's dad.

That girl has some spicey peppers up her ass, in a good way!

The passion just blows off her on court! She's great to watch... :D

Like 17 year old Arantxa at her first GS final. Great swagger and enthusiasm bursting out of every pore ;) She had Nadal's hair too :p

If that happened...I don't think I would really enjoy watching women's tennis that much. I like the civilized nature of everything. Sure there is Maria with her "C'mons" and Justine with her "Allez", but that's nothing compared to jumping up and down and acting all barbaric along the way. Personally, when I see Nadal do it, it looks completely fake and pathetic. It's probably worse than a caveman.
