I'm interested to see the spread of answers, considering I grew up in somewhat unusual conditions... indoor green clay.

Also what's your favorite to play on?

i play on hardcourt and that is the only one i have ever played on, so it is my favorite. I would be intersted to try a clay or grass just to see how the ball moves...

Red Clay (in summer), but I really hate it. I prefer playing indoors on carped in winter...

do you live on the eastcoast?

Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island, both have grass courts.

Hardcourt my whole life. I'm a dinosaur (i.e. server and volleyer) so I suspect clay would frustrate me. I'd love to try grass, though.

I saw the indoor clay and selected that one not noticing it's green clay but I always played on indoor red clay.

Even in summer I always wanted to play indoors in a VERY hot balloon. It's just so much faster and you don't have the sun shining in your eyes or the wind blowing the ball out.

Since 1 year now I always play indoor carpet, just perfect :yeah:

Autumn, Spring it's synthetic grass... usually...

In the winter I play on carpet and indoor hardcourt! :)

Hardcourt, indoor and outdoor. Just depends on the season / weather. :) I've played on grass before and love it, but I haven't played on clay yet.

I've grown up & play 95% on outdoor hardcourt. I have played on green clay a little bit (a couple of tournaments) & it was a pleasant change. I would love to play on grass but I haven't discovered one here in the deep south... There aren't any indoor courts within 2.5 hours either...i don't think

I've never really played tennis much but at school we had red clay courts and courts which were kind of like rubber - like the surfaces you get in kids play parks sometimes underneath the swings and slides and stuff - not sure wot u call it

I've played on outdoor/indoor hard court (depending on the season) for years. I took a camp last year that was on green clay for a week, and loved it, and I played in Newport on grass at the same courts the men played at and loved it. I was surprised because I always thought grass was faster than hard court but I found out it's kinda slow.

Outdoor Green Hardcourts.

I've played on clay only a handful of times and I've sucked.

Unfortunatley, for me, I never had the luxury of playing on tennis courts when i was young.
I used to hit the ball to the wall to the next door
neighbours wall but she got very upset.
She came out one day screaming "How can I watch my soap with all that f***** banging on the wall"
I was in service mode at the time she came out and I recorded a record serve for me of 100 mph but unfortunetly she did not recover.
I have currently reformed and have found Christ, I am now a changed person.

Indoor/Outdoor Green Clay, everywhere I play has it, school, vacations, etc. I like green clay the most, but have played on hard, red clay, rebound ace, and grass, I really enjoyed all of them except for really fast indoor hard courts.

None of those listed there. I still play three times a week because i am still growing up, on synthetic grass- which is the most common in Australia.

Well, California sucks...all hardcourts :( except for a few clay courts here and there in the few tennis clubs. I've always played on hardcourts, but sometimes, I expect to slide into my shots as if on clay, so maybe I'm a natural born clay-courter who hasn't discovered it yet? Or it could just be because I've been watching a lot of clay court tennis on TV lately ;)

Well, being in Australia, I've grown up playing on synthetic grass, the crappiest surface. It's by far the most common surface here, since it's cheap, and easy on the joints. I've been told that no other country actually uses synthetic grass as a dominant surface, is this true?

Out door hardcourts ...tried clay a few times really liked it, but don't have continuous access to clay courts. love playing indoors because you don't have to deal with the elements ( and I grew up playing squash so indoors feels right) ..but its a bit fast.

shell court...combination of sand and pounded shells...its like clay in terms of slowness and bounce...but only it has more bad bounce because of the unbroken shells...
