View Full Version : One Handers: Justine vs. Roger

Mary talked a little bit ago about how she likes Roger's better because Justine is on her back foot alot when she hits hers.

What do you think!?

I personally think Justine's is a better shot, if you're watching Roger's SF now it's pretty obvious his backhand needs work. He never wins a point directly off his backhand except for drop shots, and Justine's backhand dictates much of the time.

I think Roger needs to work on his BH, he's only really good at passing shots.

ugh, justine is playing, girls and women, roger plays men, if justine had Rogers backhand, people would avoid that side at all cost, while justine's backand can be overpowered.

Justine seems to deal with high balls better, almost like Guga. Roger uses more variety and his game is even more based around finishing points with his forehand. So I think they just use it differently :p

ugh, thanks for telling me, I didn't know that earlier...yer a smart one.

So I guess you disagree, so to avoid any other further confusion...how do you think Justine's backhand matches up against the rest of the women compared to how Roger's matches up to the rest of the men's?!

Result: Justine's backhand is more of a weapon:p

justine handles high balls exceedingly well. her's is more aggressive and better IMO

well there aren't many top women w/one hander, but I'd put her one hander as the tops of all the one handers on WTA

if there was a rally contest between justines backhand and rogers, Roger would trump hers

John McEnroe says "she has the best one-handed backhand in both men and women's tennis".

You can't get better than that!

I'm not even a Justine fan and I would say she has the best backhand I've ever seen in women's tennis. Federer doesn't have the best male backhand. His main weapon is his forehand I'd say. I can think of a few backhands I would rate higher than Roger's. The best would have to be Guga when he was at his peak. Choosing between Justine's and Guga's backhands would be tough.

I think Justine's is more of a weapon even though Mary is right.
She does hit off the back foot a lot, i thought i was the only one that noticed that, BUT she has soooo much of her hand BEHIND the racket that it becomes more offensive when she connects.

Roger on the other hand rolls his wrist and uses his to set up his forehand more.

Roger has more topspin, Justine drives hers more.
What trips me out is hwo she can be still drive the ball so deep from behind the baseline to the extent she overpowers and drives two handers back.
Serena is the only 2 hander she couldnt drive backwards too much.
Serena ran it down and seemed to rob Justine of preparation time.
Maria hasnt been able to do that yet for some reason, which speaks to a lack of great movement.

LOL

you're getting a little carried away. As I recall the last time Venus played Henin, it was Justine getting knocked off the line not Venus, so you were saying?

Irrelevant, last time is too long ago.

Hmmm....seen both players live and I´ve gotta say, that Justine´s performance is even cooler and more impressive than Roger´s. Wouldn´t have thought that, but imo Justine´s game is much more fun.

Regarding the backhand: Justine´s more effective and she hits more winners with it. Roger has a better forehand.

LOL and i guess you think the quality of the womens game matches the mens too. Don't be stupid. Justine's backhand is very good against most female players but give Roger her backhand and it would be a liability, give Justine Roger's backhand and she'd be dominant w/that stroke.

it's simple to differentiate their backhands. they use different grips. justine uses extreme eastern while roger uses eastern. which explains why juju handles high balls better.

I didn´t say that Justine will win against Roger, stupid... ..that´s not what I was talking about. There´s no way you can compare top women and men players with each other, but you still can say something about their games without having to directly compare them to each other. You´re weird.

I never suggested they play either...why don't you take off your rosey glasses and read twat face!

Mary doesn't know what she's talking about as usual. When Federer played Nadal, one of the reasons he lost was BECAUSE of his backhand. It was repeatedly over powered during the match. You don't see Justine's backhand being over powered much.

Thank you. Some people's minds are too simplistic to know you'd have to add Roger's man power plus Justine's technique.

In terms of technique I think Justine has the more solid shot - with Justines technique Roger would be able to generate more power than he does at present.

On the other hand Roger has better feel & variety than Justine off his backhand side, & has better passing shots - partly due to his less extreme grip.

In terms of style Henin's backhand is more like that of Gasquet & Kuerten than Roger.

Note: In no way am I claiming that Justine has a better backhand than Federer...just a more powerful, solid technique (especially for attacking high looping balls).

Federer is a man - he would definately beat Justine in most backhand to backhand exchanges.

DA FOREHAND is simply retarded and needs to join this discussion after learning what "respective" means, because it's obvious that almost everyone but his :retard: self is speaking in terms of their backhand compared to their respective opponents...

I really have to say that I love Justine's backhand. It is such a beautiful shot. Rogers is just okay and not as nice. I like his forehand better than his backhand.

Exactly. Rodger would have fared much better against Nadal using Justine's severe western backhand grip. This grip makes it easier to handle heavy topspin, hit high backhands, and to impart topspin than Rodger's more
traditional grip. All in all, it's what a single handed backhand player needs
to be successful on clay. Think Guga, Thomas Munster, ect.

I'm gonna come in as a hater now. I think Justines backhand is one of the games most overrated shots, as was Graf's forehand. I could name a few players who could hit just as many backhand winners during a match where they're playing well.

Roger hit the most amazing backhand pass I've ever seen in the match against Nadal, but it's nowhere near as strong as his forehand. The slice is very effective on grass.

Yes, it's true. And don't forget little Guga Munster - he's quite a talent.

My personal favorite of all time was Peter Korda Munster  That boy
was just full of surprises!! He would even do his little Pete Townshend
air guitar jump after particularly satisfying victories.
