this is my letter i sent to euro and ace mag

Dear Ace Mag,

Tower of Power oath,
"I hearby solemnly swear to support Lindsay Davenport in all her endeavours, both on and off the court and to faithfully defend her good name by giving a verbal ass kicking to anyone who defies, slanders or questions her character"

This is the oath that all Lindsay Davenport fans go by, being a good natured bunch we very rarely hand out 'verbal ass kickings' but something has happened that has riled us. The incident occured during the French Open QTR final against Mary Pierce. The reason we are angry is not because she lost, we can deal with defeat, but that of the comments made by the commentators of British Eurosport. Now dont get me wrong, i appreciate the ammount of tennis coverage we get in the UK compared to other countrys....even if they do change the scheduale, cut off the matches to show moto gp etc (but thats a different complaint). They were verbally attacking Lindsay and I, and many other fans feel this was unnaceptable. A certain Russian got her ass kicked in the QTRS by a belgian yet the commentators were full of praise, double standards??

We know Lindsay doesnt enjoy attention, interviews, photoshoots and all the glamour aspects of the sport but to say she doesnt care, and should not bother is ridiculous. All through her 13 year career she has gave her all to achieve personal goals and to help make womens tennis what it is today. The world's biggest female sport! She is a great champion and person and a true ambasador not just for womens tennis but for all women around the world...to us lindsay fans 'normal' is cool. Who can blame her for wanting to take time out occasionally to spend with her husband. On the day Mary was on fire and Lindsay wasnt, it happens in sport. Nobody....the media, the fans and Lindsay herself expected her to get this far and i can tell you that i for one am very proud of her achievments. Maybe the eurosport commentators should remember that before they launch into another attack, only 12 months ago we thought her career was over then she became the most inform and consistant player on tour. Next Eurosport show a lindsay match an apology would be very much appreciated. please find below some of the comments used

"At times in hr matches she looks disinterested or simply not interested"

"talking about the mental attitude of davenport but that ball wasnt that far away from her but not bothered"

"she didnt intend on Pierce running it down, maybe she shouldnt judge people by her own standards"

"just hasnt been at ease with her self all tournement its been 'oh do i have to do it', 'i dont want to be here' rumour has it in the locker room that her coach has been getting it in the neck. well she has to blame someone"

AND THIS WAS THE FINAL STRAW

"she never looked comfortable in the tournement, shes looked uninterested and i rather hope Lindsay never plays here again because i dont see the point, it doesnt do tennis any good and it doesnt do her any good"

than you for your time.

 Wow, you sure have a thing or two to say - I'm very impressed! What I love most is how you've begun the letter with The Oath - classic!

I might throw something together as well, so you have some back -up. Anyone else writing to ACE mag or Eurosport post those letters here :D

Wow ... How can a commentator say that? Really distasteful. ESPN can accused of the same thing but never have I heard someone wish that anyone never came back to a tournament or such sorts. Johnny Mac was explaing how Lindsay wasn't getting excited (For the crowd.) and how she looked like she didn't want to even be out there. He kept critcizing her how her shots were "lazy". Then, when Lindsay had the lead, he jumped onto the Lindsay bandwagon!

Good job defending Lindsay's good name! :)
