What were the longest winning streaks in recent women's tennis?

I know Davenport won 23 in a row in the US last year.

When was the last winning streak more than 23?

What was Venus' in the summer of 2001? (those were the days for her, huh)

Venus had 24 ending at the AO 2002 QF, then 35 in 2000. Those are the longest 2 in the last 5 years at least.

35!!!!!!!!

Wow, those WERE the days.....

I had forgotten how long that streak was, I thought it was 25ish... when did it end?

Justine's a great player to have gotten 23, but I don't think she'll pass Venus', not right now at least. (meaning: I don't think she'll win Wimbledon; yeh common sense, I know, but if I didn't clarify...... we all know how easily some are offended here)

edit: if is was 29 as someone says then, Justine will probably tie it with a SF?? is that right, that's definitely possible then...

Monica's had a few. Her best that I can think of from memory is:
1992 US Open (7)
1992 Tokyo (4)
1992 Oakland (4)
1992 VS Champs (4)
1993 Australian (7)
1993 Chicago (4)
1993 Paris (4) - lost in Final.
--------------------------
34 matches. 6 titles in a row.

She has a 23 and maybe a 26 as well in the early 90s.

She also won Wimbledon, Olympics doubles titles & made it to the SF of USOpen where they had to withdraw, so the WTA doesn't count that as a loss on her W-L record. It has 10-0 under her 2000 doubles record (Wimby & USO)so how many matches do u add for the Olympics?

I'm guessing a terrible day for Venus...nothing against Amy, but in those days Venus would walk out, with the confidence of a runway model, & KILL opponents like Amy in less than 50 minutes...

With the shape of the wta right now I don't think anyone's going to be dreaming of overtaking Venus's streak. It's interesting though that Lindsay's win over her at Linz was the last time she'd beat Venus for 4 years  She ended one streak and started another ;)

That's a winning streak of 74 matches!! (if I counted correctly ;) )

That's right. Navratilova owns three of the six longest winning streaks as well as the best single season record (86-1 in 1983) in the Open Era. Not to mention the 109 match winning streak (1983-85) with Pam Shriver in doubles!

1. Martina Navratilova, 74, 1984
5. Chris Evert, 55, 1974
6. Martina Navratilova, 54, 1983-84
