Teenage Sensation Vaidisova Signs Up

DFS Classic organisers can announce today that world number 34 Nicole Vaidisova will make her debut appearance at Edgbaston Priory in Birmingham June 6-12. Although only 16, the Czech has already won two WTA Tour singles titles.

2004 was a breakthrough season for Nicole, finishing inside the top 100 for the first time. Winning the Tour title in Vancouver she became the sixth youngest singles champion in tour history (aged 15 years, three months, 23 days) and the lowest ranked player (number 180). Nicole won her second title at Tashkent in October breaking into the top 100 and becoming the youngest player in top 100.

Nicole was also a 2004 Australian Open junior finalist in singles and doubles and won the 2003 Orange Bowl.

Marjory Howie, Tournament Director said: “The player list so far for this year’s DFS Classic is looking really strong and it will be fantastic to see Nicole here in Birmingham.

"Nicole has had a hugely successful first couple of seasons on the senior tour and at such a young age, it will be a real treat to see her play.”

Vaidisova joins a strong field at this year’s DFS Classic with the likes of Daniela Hantuchova, Alicia Molik, Tatiana Golovin and Elena Likhovtseva all vying for the title.

The qualifying event will run between Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th June 2005 with the main draw played between 6th and 12th June at Edgbaston Priory.

With the addition of almost 150 more seats, the 1500 capacity centre court will ensure more tennis fans can get close to the tennis action.

Ticket prices range from £8 on the first day to £18 for the final. Weekly passes are available, priced at £55. Discounts for groups, LTA advantage members, juniors and senior citizens are on offer.
