Australia's Rachel McQuillan has fired a shot at men's tennis, labelling it boring as fans shun it in favour of the women's circuit with fashion, personalities and quality play.

McQuillan, at 30 now a veteran of the circuit, says in men's matches the clashes are over all too quickly as they amount to little more than a service game, and for that reason she believes women should receive equal prize money.

"People are starting to get bored with the men's game because it's getting so fast now," she said. "People are trying to get better at a game and I think the men's game now is getting to a stage where it's all serves."

After 10 years playing around the world, McQuillan says Russian Anna Kournikova is one of the major reasons there is so much interest in the women’s game these days.

"Especially in England, people don't even care about tennis, I've heard them saying: 'let's just go and check out what she's wearing today'," she said. "It's just a big fashion statement."

"With the girls, their personalities come out, it's quite exciting to watch now. I think in that sense, it's fair to say, we should get equal prize money because of the way tennis is going these days."

McQuillan will open her campaign this year in the Canberra Women’s Classic, which begins on Sunday, and with the goal of taking her world ranking from 70 to inside the top 50 this year, she says the Canberra field could provide her with her first title win.

"I think it's an open field and I think it's anybody's tournament," McQuillan said.

I kinda agree with Rachel, although I do like watching mens' tennis sometimes. The Goran-Pat Wimbledon final, for example, was absolutely fantastic tennis.

I agree that everyone should get equal prize money <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

I don't agree with:<br />"I think the men's game now is getting to a stage where it's all serves.""

SOME of the men, can get by with just their serves.

However, of the top 6 players on the ATP, I don't think that you'll see Hewitt, Ferrero, or Grosjean knocking guys off the court with their serves.<br />There are lots of players who must rely on other aspects on their game to win - people just choose to focus on the Rusedski's and Philipousis' (sp?) of the world when talking about mens tennis negatively.
