Can't believe there's not one of these already...where are all you old-timers?!

I hope to get to see some of their matches later in the week, Dominguez/Llagostera up tomorrow. They're a competent pair but nothing special (even if they are two of my favourite players), here's hoping Martina's back is a bit better and that ASV's been training with Sveta :)

Any word on mixed doubles for either player yet?

All the way to the final, ladies!! :D

I am hoping they make it to the weekend too ;)

Jon, I hope you do get to see them play because that would mean they are still in the tournament ;)

It's a nice surprise though to see ASV play here. I had kind of stopped looking at doubles draws at the beginning of events now just to check. I hope she plays mixed as well. She may as well while she is there. No huges expectations considering ASV hasn't played since Bali and Martina's not played much this year but hopefully their experience will get them through tomorrow anyway.

Vamos :yeah:

Raquel I was doing exactly the same thing, wasn't checking doubles draws anymore cuz I didn't expect to find her. But I searched for her bio on RG website and nothing came up so I'm surprised to find out she is competing. I'm over the moon though :) :) :) ! I hope it goes better than with Anabel at Wimbledon, I was on court 3 for that one and it was painful.

GOOOOOOOO ARANTXA AND MARTINA!!!! :D :D :D

Hey Bea, I trust we'll have our usually accidental meeting at Wimby this year ;) !

Ooooo so great to see Arantxa in the draw!! YAY!

Time for these legends to show the meddling kids a thing or two ;)

Bea hope you get to see them! Naturally they will win just for you.... <gibbering bitterly and full of jealousy in the corner> ;)

It's one-set all at the moment... 46 63...Why isn't there a nail-biting smiley?

No ASV in the mixed doubles draw, unfortunately, but Martina's playing with Paes again.

I'm following it on the scoreboard too Jon. I just hope they don't get called off for bad light soon as they have the momentum. They never held Martina's serve once in the first set but seem to be more solid in the second set. Vives/Lino had a point for 4-4 I think so they did well to break at 4-3.

I know, the worst thing is that they moved it to Chatrier, but still it's not on :(

I hate following scores online...there's such a long wait between points

they got broken :(

the structure of broadcast is worse and worse, there are dozens of dramatical matches, right now legends of world tennis history are playing and still nothing.... :(
I wonder what else they want..... :o

Thank God they broke back straight away otherwise it might have slipped away quickly. Huge difference between 2-3 and 1-4. Arantxa serving now and they have held her games quite often.

it's over I think....

but once again I have great feelings, just to see their names on scoreboard makes me so happy that they still love tennis and are capable to play some good games :D

They lost
Just couldn't hold serve easily enough during that match. I think Martina lost hers 5 times, ASV twice.

So sad

Martina dropped serve all three times in the first set - I don't know why she opted to serve first  Arantxa held both service games, saved a break point in the first.

Second set, neither was broken. Didn't face any break points either.

Third set, Martina was broken at 1-2 but they broke right back. Then Arantxa dropped serve in the very next game for the first time in the match. That was all it took

Maybe they'll play together in 's-Hertogenbosch?

I don't think they'll play in s'Hertogenbosch as apparently they only decided to play here together on Saturday. Martina was training last week in Barcelona and had no partner and asked Arantxa at the last minute so I don't think ASV will be playing again any time soon (as much as I would like her to).

Shame they lost but Martina has a good chance in the mixed.

Arantxa was quite vague in the press conference afterwards; saying she had no plans to play again in the future "unless Martina offers". So let's hope we'll see her at Wimbledon then ;) She's hung on at RG, I assume to support Sveta, and seems to be having a good time here :)

I think if they had a chance to play a few more matches together they would have a reasonable chance at Wimbledon. Lack of matches let them down big time in Paris, with ASV looking very rusty (not surprisingly since she hasn't played in a while). ASV clasped her hands and looked towards the heavens to say "thank you" when she eventually managed to hit a volley winner!!

Jon, are the transcripts of their press conference available online?

Isn't Arantxa doing commentary for Spanish Eurosport?

Hi Zummi,

I had a printed transcript, but I left in Paris, sorry. They never seem to put doubles interviews up on the RG site  For what it's worth, ASV didn't say too much, but that she had no plans to play again in future, but you never know, and if she was asked to help a friend out she might do so. Unfortunately nobody asked her to clarify if she'd play Bali again. Let's Martina wants helping out at Wimbledon :)

Thanks, Jon! I would like to see them play again but if they do so at Wimbledon, I would hope they play a warm-up tournament together in 's-Hertogenbosch... unless Arantxa already has plans for Eastbourne.

I hope Arantxa plays wimby. Martina said in her press conference that Arantxa played very well. So vamos arantxa!!!
