Thanks for the info

Wow...she's only 21? For some reason i thought she was older than that - perhaps cause she LOOKS older than that!

That's the birthday sanexwta.com lists for her. They have been wrong before.

Is it just me or does she seem overweight?

I think Serena Williams weighs as much as her even though she's like 20cm taller.

I didn't realise Francesca was that short.. that's shorter than Justine Henin.

doesn't seem big to me

Sam Sam Sam-----

Secret Rule #5 of the WTA-NEVER trust weights as reported! They are always self reported, and we ARE talking about women afer all. Just about every woman shaves off a few pounds.
Trust only your eyes Sam.

I too thought she was older than that.
And 64 kilos is definitely not overweight!

It's impossible that Serena only weighs 64kg! They must have gotten Serena's weight wrong.

LOL gmt. Yeah, let's blame it all on the euro. But then, maybe not, there are enough Brits doing that for us

If Francesca weighs 141, she's concealing it quite well.

There must be something about short women with one-handed backhands. Justine, Selima, Francesca.

I remember way back when ( i think it was 99 or so) when Schiavone lost in the final of Tashkent to a then-little-known-player by the name of Iroda Tulyaganova. Well Iroda is now ranked at no.20. And Schiavone, with her amazing QF performance at the French Open that pushed her into the top 40. I'm so happy for her. IF anyone knows, what tournament is Francesca playing next? (before or after the Australian Open). I wish her all the best, and I'm shocked by Davide Sanguinetti's win over Jan-Michael Gambill! I'm really happy that Francesca was able to beat 2 top 10 players in one tournament!

Yes, Tineke, let's refrain

To think that had Francesca defeated Kim and Monica in a WTA Tour tournament, she'd be in the top25 by now. Amazing.

Well done Francesca. i have a hunch this girl will do very very well this year.

I'm with Becca. I thought Francesca was older than 21. Don't know why. I have never been good with peoples ages. Especially a lady's age.

I can assure all of you that Francesca IS only 21 years old, and that she is not overweight...
The final in Tazhkent was her first good result, and that was at the end of 1999. She did very well last year in her first "serious" year on the tour, and I am sure she will do even better this year, I think she will be in the top 20 at least.
The only problem I see is her mental strenght, she always gets very nervous.
GOOD LUCK FRANCESCA, you are the best option to take Silvia's place when she retires....

She's just beaten two top players in a row, methinks she's doing all right mentally. Sometimes a player needs just one win over a top player to start a winning streak and rise up the rankings. Justine used to choke a lot. But beating Venus Williams gave her a lof of confidence.

Is it me, or is Schiavone like an updated version of Martinez!!!

Jan 2nd, 2002, 09:44 PM
How so?

Jan 2nd, 2002, 09:54 PM
The only thing her and Martinez have in common is that they are both masculine and lesbian.

I think she plays a lot more like Arantxa, she chases down everything, grunts and doesn't hit with too much pace

GO FRANCESCA!

Woah Francesca's a lesbian?? Since when did we know this or am I just slow?? LOL

Anyway I first noticed Francesca when she played Dokic in a match at the U.S. Open a couple years ago, I think 2000, and she gave Jelena a run for her money taking the 1st set into a tiebreak (lost the 2nd easily though). She has a good one-handed backhand and am surprised that she beat these players! We'll definitely be seeing her in the future.
